Based on what I read in the DMN this morning, Plano (5,400) and Plano East (5,600) have 11,000 students between them! Is that amazing, or what? I did'nt notice what Plano West has....

You gotta remember - the UIL has rules of how schools define their numbers to level the playing field.
The Plano schools - even though their 11th-12th grade - reprot their attendences and the 9th-10th grade feeder high school.
I'm sure HP is one less than the 5A cutoff.

Judson reports the Grey (9th-11th grade) and the Red (11 repeats and 12th graders) together. It will be interesting to see our number this year. It will probably be in the 3ks.

I'm telling you that is a misprint. That is LD Bell's enrollment.

HP was listed in the DMN a couple of weeks ago as being at 1957.5...20 under what Rivals is projecting the cutoff to be.
Rivals has HP at 1975 though...2 under the cutoff.

I'm fairly certain all schools must do this... Plano isn't doing anything special.

The original post seemed amazed those two schools were that big. I have heard people say "Wow, why would they have 5600 kids on one campus?" I guess I read into the initial post that he seemed surprised the schools were that big, when in actuality, there are only half that on the senior high campus.

Regardless of where they are, that is an astounding amount of students to choose a football team from..don't you think? Plano East is the largest school in the state.

they had a great shot at hiring 2 very good coaches, joflo being one, and after the interview with the principal, both broke and ran as fast as they could. they had to "settle" for "mediocrity"

Highland Park High School is 1921 according to greatschools.net. They are #12 in Nation for the most people in AP Classes and they are #16 in Nation for the best athletics! ain't that amazing?! with #1 richest school in Texas. I am really amazed.

The 1921 HP number is from October 2003. When you look at HP you might not expect much growth and at some point I would think it would diminish. It is relatively small area that is land locked. It is a lot of old money and not a very transient area. A lot of new residences have been the result of razing two older homes and building a single larger home (although some of that has been curtailed by the city after complaints.) By comparison, Southlake is still a lot more transient than HP and has a younger population with school age kids. SLC growth will still be curtailed by the amount of land left to expand. As a prior poster stated, they may only see another 200-300 kids as buildout approaches.

Sure looks like Trinity has more students than advertised. I'll ask Lineweaver next week he should know. He's been gone I heard due to his fathers death out in West Texas.

I agree with you and it is much similar to Bellaire (Houston) where they take old small house and put in huge house with small land left.
My bad about the population and I didn't know it was 2003 but thought it was 2004, oh well. Oh and by the way, I did expect that its not much growth because its all grown in Dallas and it is all crunched together :) . Highland Park is much closer to Dallas than Southlake but Southlake is much newer.

I wouldnt take that national ranking to heart. My alma mater also made the national list of top high schools (though not ranked nearly as high as HP) on that website, yet the TAKS test results for the entire school was below the state average for Texas schools. Just goes to show that no schools are perfect.

They are based on AP tests taken divided by the number of graduating seniors (It might be AP tests passed, I don't know).
HP was the top comprehensive high school in the state of Texas.
Dallas Science and Engineering is a magnet school that for some odd reason managed to be elligible. Dallas Talented and Gifted, a similar magnet program, was not elligible.
SEM will not be elligible again. So HP is the best comprehensive public high school in Texas.
And the Sports Illustrated people are a little off to say that HP has that dominant of a sports program. If they were in 5A, they wouldn't have half the success they have.
I think that Carroll is just as good a school all-around.
