View Full Version : I'll be Rooting for Tebow Saturday

As much as I dislike Florida - I would love to see Gator hang about 77 on Kiffen this week in the Swamp.
Kiffen is a young punk who is really a marginal coach, and I think his fake swagger will be gone from the SEC quickly. He's already backpeddling on his earlier big mouth antics.
His response after the UCLA loss? "We should have won by 14".
Urban Meyer will show no mercy - he'll be doing onside kicks in the 4th qtr.
Florida - 77
Tenn - 7

Did you see this?
That's the Tebow I like to refer to as "Old Testament Tebow" -- or "O.T. Tebow." (To be sure, there is violence in the New Testament. But for good ol' righteous vengeance, there's nothing like the O.T.) And it's the Tebow we should see Saturday against Tennessee, a game that calls for more than a little old-fashioned vengeance.
Despite his yapping, Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin has done his best not to stir "O.T. Tebow

What's wrong with rooting for Tebow? Is it because he does not play for your team that you have a problem with him? What he has done on the college level is pretty special, yes there are others that have done it to but I do not recal Mr Tebow ever coming out and trying to compare himself to other greats. I do not recall him getting all pissy when he did not win the heisman last year, I do recall him taking responsibility for a loss and leading his team to ap perfect record after that including some impressive wins in that stretch. So the media gives the guy a lot of love they do the same thing with Colt and last time I checked Colt was deserving of it all too. I bring up Colt because I have seen favpack admit that he is a Texas fan.

It's pretty simple Farmer...anybody that Mark May and ESPN devote all their attention to....9 times out of 10 I'm gonna hate 'em. It's just a rule that I have. It's completely irrational and immature....guess what ??? I don't care. I hate 95% of the guys on ESPN and I always will. If they have a media darling i.e. Leinart, Bush, Quinn, Bradford, Tebow....they just about force me to hate them. They just go too far man.
Now I would NEVER wish an injury on any player. I don't want Bradford hurt. I want Texas to beat OU with him on the field. I don't want Tebow hurt. I want Texas to beat them with Tebow on the field.

I can understand that sentiment say if you are an Ole Miss fan or a South Carolina fan or even a Oklahoma State fan,. but coming from a Texas fan is where I get confused. No Texas fan should hate somebody because they are a media darling. Ever. Have you ever picked up a major newspaper in this state? Ever listened to a sports talk show during football in a major market in this state? Its Texas all the time. Same with ESPN, do you remember listening to the UT - A&M game last year? You would have thought it was a Texas practice they were broadcasting from, nothing at all said about A&M in that game. When we watch the UT - Tech game this week wait and see how much love Musburger and Herbstreet will be giving to Colt and UT. They receive a heck of a lot more media attention then you guys let on to. UT has and always will be a media darling.

So you're shocked that newspapers and radio shows in TEXAS...concentrate on the TEXAS Longhorns a lot?
NO WAY!!
Next you'll be telling me that the sports guy in Tuscaloosa talks about 'Bama too much.
As far as the Texas/aTm game from last year....what did the Aggies do that was worth talking about? And I'm being serious.
You keep it up buddy....you'll be in Waco this weekend watching Texas on one tv and the freaking Citadel on the other one while UGA is playing.

I said the major newspapers. It would not surprise me to see papers or talk shows in Lubbock discuss Tech or in Austin discuss UT or in College Station discuss A&M but here in the metroplex UT receives far more love from the DMN and Star Telegram than even SMU and TCU do. Same on ESPN 103.3 and I would have to think the same thing down in Houston with the chronicle.
As for the A&M game last year, once again this is supposed to be a national broadcast, If I wanted to hear that the McCoys and Shipleys spent another Thanksgiving together I would had muted the game and turned on Craig Way. If I wanted to hear for the 4th year in a row that Colt Mcocy, with a name like Colt he is destained to lead and QB UT I would think I would once again listen to Craig Way. Also if memory serves me right just about everybody at ESPN was discussing how Texas got screwed last year and felt that Texas deserved to be in the national title game, maybe with the exception of Lou Holtz so maybe the only fan base that has a reason to gripe about ESPN and the media is Texas Tech ;)

Believe it or not Farmer ....UT fans laugh at those comments. Take a quick look on shaggybevo and you'll see that we take shots at Musberger DAILY. The whole Colt/Shipley are roommates thing got OLD 3 years ago. To the point that anytime Colt throws to Shipley we all say in unison "you know what would be cool?....what if they were roommates? that would be awesome". And Mushburger WILL at least ONCE a game tell you just how awesome it is for a guy named Colt to be the QB at Texas.....oh and he will tell us how there is only one stop light in Tuscola. You can put money on that.
So I can see how that would get old to other fans...it gets old to us too. But you can't compare that to the whole Tebow thing. Dude they devoted an entire day to Tebow being a virgin!! Umm....who gives a :Censor:? It's too much and it's enough to make you root against the guy....well it is for me.

Exactly. The entire nation has gotten to watch the unfolding of a full-fledged bromance on national TV the past three years and now we're griping about a two time national champ, Heisman winning QB getting media attention?
Although at least ACU gets mentioned when talking about McCoy and Shipley and how their dads are also BFFs.

Tebow is in a no win, he goes out and plays his butt off and the media loves it and others hate it. If the media did not love it then all we would hear is how Tebow is overrated because he does not happen to play for the team we all root for on a weekly basis. Has Tebow received a lot of media attention? ye s he has. Has Tebow accomplished a lot in his time as a collegiate QB? you bet. More so than any other QB currently playing D1 college football has. I also seem to remember ESPN going around and doing a 50 state deal in the off-season devoting a day to each state. Well they had to spend 2 days in the state of Texas because they had to give Colt and the Horns an entire day just to themselves.
I see why its enough to make you root against the guy, its one of the reasons I hate UT so much, all the love they get, how they never do any wrong and how if anybody but UT is being given any kind of praise their fans come out in a whine unlike any I have ever see. ;):D

I can see where it would appear that way to other fanbases within the state. It's all a part of our swagger. I'm sure it pisses people off. That's why I like it. If they don't like it....beat us and shut us up. Pretty simple. Now some of our fans will lose and still won't shut up and admit defeat....I'm not like that. I don't think in my 6+ years of posting on this board I've ever done that once. Of course Texas hasn't lost many games in that time span either.
If it comes down to Texas/UF in the title game and both Colt and Tebow are healthy....I'll be happy. That is what I want to see.
BTW
If you break down the stats from last year...Tebow was VERY overrated with an emphasis on VERY. To the point where Colt was almost talked about as if he were an "also-ran". Dude...compare the stats... I dare anyone on here to look at Colt's stats from last year and even for a second say that.

I understand the swagger part I truly do and compared to any other program in this state I can see why it would be there, save 1983-1996. However the part that gets me is how the program goes something like 34 years without a national title but yet all you here is how they are amongst the best in the country. I never understood seeing that swagger during the 80's and even the majority of the 90's and even in some of the years this decade.
As for Tebow being overrated, what is that based on? Seriously how can one come up with the conclusion that he was overrated last year?

Exactly. Just wait for this week man. You will not even know Tech is playing against UT. Between Fowler on game day and Musburger and Herby calling the game in the booth its going to get bad. We will hear everything great about UT and I am pretty sure they will discuss how they beat OU more than they will how Tech beat Texas last year. I am just glad Fowler will not be in the booth with Musburger and Herbstreit this week.

192 298 2746 64.4 9.22 70 30 4 15 172.37

what those stats don't show is the fact that tebow faced tougher defenses in the SEC.
that also doesn't show that florida and texas run different systems...with florida running the ball alot more in '08 than texas. in fact, over 1,000 more rushing yards over the course of the season. that takes away from tebow's passing stats. florida also had 3 running backs with over 600 yards on the ground. and that takes away from tebow's running stats.

I have an honest question for those who aren't Texas fans...
What is the Difference between McCoy and Tebow? Why is one proclaimed the greatest College Football player of all time....and the other is just Shipley's roommate?
If McCoy gets a Ring and a Heisman, what will Tebow have done that McCoy hasn't?
Colt McCoy will most likely leave College Football statically as a Football Great....
so far... 11668 yards of total offense. 108 Total TD's

When Colt gets that ring then you can ask that question, until then keep whining about all the love a non-UT player is getting.
Now let me ask you UT homers a question, why is it that any time a player who does not play for UT receives praise, why do you all throw a :Censor: fit over it? How come every team except your own is typically overrated? What was it again that made Vince the greatest college player of all time? I mean you guys have no problem admiting that now do you? I have an honest question for those who aren't Texas fans...
What is the Difference between McCoy and Tebow? Why is one proclaimed the greatest College Football player of all time....and the other is just Shipley's roommate?
If McCoy gets a Ring and a Heisman, what will Tebow have done that McCoy hasn't?
Colt McCoy will most likely leave College Football statically as a Football Great....
so far... 11668 yards of total offense. 108 Total TD's
Completion %: 70 Career (Does not include this season)
Tim Tebow: 8924 yards of total offense. 117 Total TD's
Completion %: 66 Career. (does not include this season)
Colt needs to step up his game. He's only saved one life and he hasn't even mentioned saving the world from all diseases. Plus he needs to do a few circumcisions in third world countries. THEN and ONLY THEN is his name worthy of being mentioned in the same breath with Lord Tebow. And even then it's not even close because Tebow wears jorts AND crocs at the same time. He can pull that off....Colt could NEVER pull that off.

Yes I do. You would think a team with the swagger of Texas hadn't gone 34 years without a national title and I would think that kind of swagger would at least lead to some kind of league/conference dominance. Wait, its no longer the SWC is it?
UT dominated the SWC? Must have been before my time. Oh yeah, it was. (28 years).

So you hate the guy because he actually does volunteer his time and helps out with those who are not as privileged as we are here in America? You are hating on him because that gets reported or are you hating on him because he knows how to win and has helped in leading a team to 2 BCS national titles? When Colt gets that ring then you can ask that question, until then keep whining about all the love a non-UT player is getting.
Now let me ask you UT homers a question, why is it that any time a player who does not play for UT receives praise, why do you all throw a :Censor: fit over it? How come every team except your own is typically overrated? What was it again that made Vince the greatest college player of all time? I mean you guys have no problem admiting that now do you? Why can't the same be said about Tebow?
What? I like a ton of guys that don't play for UT. I have no problem with other players getting credit. NEVER have. I thought Shonn Greene was the best RB last year....he played for freaking Iowa. I think Dez Bryant is a phenomenal athlete. I think Tebow is easily in the top 5 QBs in college football right now. I think USC year in and year out produces the best LBs in the country. I thought Daniel Su-f'n-pulveda was the best punter in the last 30 years. Do I need to go on???
I like players from all over the country. I have no problem giving credit where credit is due. Don't do the "you only love UT players" crap with me bro. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I don't like being force-fed the greatness of ONE single player week after week after week to the tune of "is he a virgin"....and "he's the greatest competitor EVAR"....IT'S COMPLETE BS. They put a freaking plaque of his speech up on a wall WHILE HE STILL PLAYS FOR THE TEAM!!! C'mon man you're killing me.

I am rooting for both Tebow and Colt. 2 great leaders.

Exactly. The entire nation has gotten to watch the unfolding of a full-fledged bromance on national TV the past three years and now we're griping about a two time national champ, Heisman winning QB getting media attention?
Although at least ACU gets mentioned when talking about McCoy and Shipley and how their dads are also BFFs.
good one :D

i'd be satisfied to compare the stats of a system qb who whipped tu's behind with colt. stats are the biggest liars ever. you've got to go stronger than that.

If, and this is a huge if, the Gators win the NC and his stats are comparable to 2007 or 08, I'll argue till I'm blue in the face that he's one of the greatest.
As far as the other stuff goes, he doesn't ask for the media attention. Doesn't schedule his own press conferences or do driveway sit ups.
He just gets the attention, and he is honest when asked personal questions. Some people seem to hate that fact. Maybe he should fight in the club or rack up a couple DWIs to get some people on his side.
Yep.

Not irrational... i'm usually with you on that. Tebow is an exception.
Yes. I want the horns to take them both at full strength.
more importantly, i want my boys to be more like tt than any other collegiate or pro player i can think of. i'm betting wew does too, truth be told.
Show me one time in this thread where somebody has said he is the greatest CFB player of all time. Just show me. But it never amazes me that the people who constantly ***** about Tebow for receving all this media attention then go out and start threads about him and then start mocking the guy because of the way he was brought up and or chooses to live his life.
Not a thread... but... just do a google image search for "the greatest college football quarterback of all time." You'll see a couple of different pictures but one shows up much more often than the rest...

The guy is a great quarterback and an even better leader but he is not even the best quarterback in college football right now, much less the best of all time. Winning championships certainly counts for something but that's a silly way to measure how great a quarterback is, ask Dan Marino. As soon as OU fans will claim that Bradford didn't lose to Texas and Florida, Oklahoma did, Tebow didn't beat Ohio State and OU, Florida did. As for Texas players being media darlings, I have to disagree, especially in comparison to players from USC and Tebow. Tim Tebow has been on media overload for the past two years and Matt Barkley is destined for the same. No player since Vince Young has received anywhere NEAR that much spotlight. The fact that Texas isn't getting as much attention has nothing to do with it, I'm really just tired of reading about whether or not Tebow is a virgin. Too much of something begins to annoy me, Megan Fox has been on overload since Transformers 1 and despite how ungodly gorgeous she is I'm already sick of seeing her on magazine covers.

This. Living down here in SEC country sometimes it seems like ALL Tebow ALL the time. I'm far from a Florida Fan but the kid is one heck of a player and lives his life according to his faith. Just because the media has a 'love fest' with the man and attempts to shove it down everyone's throat I can't fault the young man for that. Up to this point in his career the kid has shown he can be a leader and a winner both on and off the field. You guys can rip ESPiN, CBS (you think Musburger is bad .. try Gary Danielson) .... I'm in total agreement but to somehow insinuate that Tebow brings this upon himself or that this media attention somehow takes away from his accomplishments is a bit of a stretch.

Certainly you can read better than you are letting on.
I have started one thread to complain about the Whiny Orange fan base. One. Never said I have not chimed in but my chiming in has been to point out the constant whining seen by the Orange. Such as, but we beat OU and we almost beat Tech on the road and UF only beat OU by as much as we did and our QB is better than their QB and the media hates us and gives too much love to USC and Tebow and how everybody is overrated. Case in point, favpack who is a UT fan starts this thread and then two Texas fans start in on Tebow and one even went as far as to suggest he hopes he gets injured. Pretty ironic for a Texas fan to say such a thing since the Colt injury against A&M was taken so hard by a lot in the Whiney Orange fanbase.

The problem all lies in that Tim Tebow does not play for the team these people root for. Nothing more nothing less. I am a UGA fan and even I will not go on and on like other people have. Tim Tebow is both a great person and a great football player and just because he plays for the Gators and not the Dawgs does not mean I can go out and say the things that you have seen those from other teams across the country have said. Such as wishing injury or mocking his faith. Can you imagine how much he would be talked about on this board if he played for UTAustin?

Yeah and Tim Tebow clearly has not deserved any of the so called media attention he has received over the last two years either. Heisman trophy season and a national championship season all in which he put up good numbers and led his team as well as any other QB playing in that same time frame.
I know, lets start discussing guys on the second and third teams as well as the scout teams. That clearly is the answer

Can't read the article. Not an insider subscriber.
Yes Tebow was the backup in '06
But, how many current starting QB's in college football can say they have not only won a heisman but have also led their team to a MNC as a starting QB?

Oh. Didn't realize that was insider. Well, the second question is, "Is there anything bad about you? At all? Even a bad habit we can make news with?" You can bet that if his answer wasn't "crack my knuckles" we would have heard about it. To me, that interview is a perfect example of Tebow Overload. It's the same f'ing thing with Arod. So instead lets interview guys like Dusty Dvoracek or Sergio Kindle or others who don't exactly portray what we would like to see out of the student athletes. I bet if you go back to when Vince was in college that he too was asked some pretty ridiculous questions by interviewers as well. I also seem to recall many refering to him as "Invincible and Superman" and what not.
As for your answer to my question, you would be wrong, Tim Tebow has both led his team to a national title and won a heisman. No other starting QB currently playing in CFB can say that.

I never really remember saying I was a fan, I did say I love his names and he was golden (cause he is pretty funny) but, to be a fan I would think I need to at least listen to him every other day and I dont really listen to him every week even...Usually I am listening to the ESPIN main tote on XM or to the Nascar station on XM...then some blues or rock or jazz stations on XM. I hardly listen to regular radio anymore.
The schticket used to be 1310, not real sure if it is anymore but, I do remember the hardliners were on there. The best they have to offer on there is Norm..I used to love listening to him on 570 KLIF in the mornings.

Tebow wasn't the biggest part of that team by any stretch of the imagination, but he played quite a bit. He scored 3 TDs against LSU and two in the national championship game (one running, one passing), and put up 800 yards of offense over the season. Colt never touched the field in live game action. This might be the most absurd homerism yet. Tebow doesn't get credit as being the QB for that team, Chris Leak does, but he does get credit for playing a role in the winning of that NC. Colt played no such role, unless we're now counting scout team.

IF that happens Colt would be the all time winningest QB. Undefeated regular season would net him a record of 44-7. If Texas won the Big XII title game and National Title game he would be 46-7. The all time winningest collegiate QB by 4 games(David Greene 42-10) and better than third place Peyton Manning 39-6.
Currently Tebow is 26-5 compared to Colt's 34-7. IF Fl went 13-1 Tebow would end up 35-6.
I think Colt has to be in the discussion, IF.

I agree with everything in this post, what I don't agree with is giving him credit for two NCs since one of them happened when he was a redshirt freshman and was prohibited by NCAA regs from participating in any games during that season. Tebow, on the other hand, did actually participate on the field, even scoring points, in his teams first season. He gets credit for being an NC winner that year, but not credit for being the QB.

yeeah Piedy I said it. Nobody and I mean nobody especially USC played the gauntlet that Texdass did,. They should be national champs, much like 1970 when they lost their freaking bowl game;)
Different times.
I find that period interesting the way Bowl games were looked at as a reward for the season, not an extension.
Do you look at QB's/WR's in the HOF from previous eras and laugh at their numbers? Most are pretty pathetic.

Maybe if you would learn to read English you would see that I said "IF Tebow gets credit for being the QB). Perhaps I should start posting in Russian so that your won't be so easily confused.

LMAO right now. This is where "someone" gave Tebow credit for being the QB on the 2006 NC team?
In the past two years (I think that's mentioned in the post above, but my English isn't good so I might be wrong) Tebow has:
1. Won a a Heisman trophy (2007)
2. Won the NC as a starting quarterback (2008)

Yeah, I do. The main question here is whether you remember who won the Heisman trophy in 2007 and who was the starting quarterback for the national champions in 2008. (Hint: same person). Also, if you grasp that the "past two years" in terms of football are 2007 and 2008. (Hint: it's the 2009 football season right now).

I don't even dislike Colt McCoy, I'm on record as saying I think he's a great guy and player and that if he wins an NC as a starting QB, he should be talked about as one of the all time greats. Doesn't change the fact that even based off of 2007-2008 alone, Tebow deserves all the credit he gets. But even if you think he doesn't deserve the attention or hype, there's no reason to dislike him just because of how he lives his life and how it draws attention from the press.

This Texas fan has said that regardless of what Tebow does this year, a pretty good arguement could me made fo him as one of the best.
I have stated repeatedly that USC is the dominant program of the 00's, although now FL has a real arguement.
The SEC plays better overall football than any other conference.

I would argue that Colt on Scout team was equally as purposeful in 05...
Tebow racked up garbage time, and served as the Running back on occasion...Probably because Urban made him a promise he would play his first year on campus....Was he needed, No.....
Tebow was less of an impact on the NC team then Jamal Charles was in 05 for Texas... Charles contributed more, but wasn't at all essential in the success of the 05 team.
It is also difficult to get another QB involved when you have freaking Vince Young as your no. 1.....

Never said Colt had a NC. Tebow has two rings (and a heisman), one as a quarterback and one as a guy Meyer brought in when the Gators were up 20+ points to get some reps for the next season.

Not exaggerating at all. Just going on about what we see from the majority of the Whiny Orange fan base. They constantly bash any and all things not Texas and have a hard time coming to the realization that just becuse they go around throwing up the Devil Worshiping sign and say "We're Texas" doesn't mean they are the best. I am talking about the ones on this board and the typical Whron fan ones usually encounters. Just go back and read post from last Jan. Texas fans love to act like they were so wronged by the system in place that they forgot to give Tech credit for thei vicotry and wen on and on about how they should have won that game and forgot how it was actually Tech that allowed Texas to get back in that game.
Just look at how much you and others have gone on about Tebow. I have not seen a fanbase so harsh on a fine young man like that of the Texas fans. But then again these are the same fans who love a 70 year old who gets arrested for DWI on 6th street and only suspends him for 4 games and also has a starting LB who drives his car into an apt complex at 1:50 AM and think they can fool the rest by saying "he was texting" especially after he already has a history of DWI. Keep em coming those Whorn fans. Your jealousy of players like Tebow and programs such as USC is duly noted by all the constant bashing you people do to them on this site.
