Hebron will be better than Plano and I believe they will be among the top 2-3 in the metrolplex by the time its all said and done.

I don't think The Woodlands is a top 10 team even with the players they return. They haven't proven it against the top level programs they've faced. Very talented players, but haven't managed to put it all together save for maybe the 2000 or 2003 seasons. North Shore beat them in 2004 and 2005, and return more than The Woodlands for 06.

Other than that, I think you've got some solid programs on there.

I agree with KT2000. Also, I think that South Grand Prairie should be added to the list.

SGP has talent every year...they just don't have the coaching to go with it. The 2005 team would have been unbeatable if it weren't for their coach. Its frustrating to watch.

Longview has a great program - but are losing a ton of folks including the entire O backfield. Longview and Lee will be in a dogfight next year with the Metroplex boys.

This was the first year that our JV did not run the table since I can remember... we might lose Lufkin from our district which should help... but there are too many egos to keep The Woodlands as a Top 10 powerhouse for this season...

a winning year out of a jv is a terrible way to predict next year's varsity strength.

Not so much... the previous years JV program will generally have some players that will fill key holes for the graduating Seniors... I am not advocating that The Woodlands will be a terrible program next year... It is just a few factors that will hurt...1) Coaching- Highlanders still miss Willig and 2) The ND schedule will be brutal as ever... I am confident that they will make it 12 playoff appearances in a row, however, they will most likely fail to meet expectations and will not be a top 10 program... remember...the state of Texas is loaded with talent...being a top 10 program is difficult to accomplish on a constant basis.

This is according to who? Preseason polls(or even Pre-Pre season polls) in this case are pretty useless, given that no one really knows how the new upcoming non-returners will fare at the varsity level or how big of an impact the incoming underclassmen will have. They really have nothing to base it on rather than previous season success. Obviously SLC is a given at #1 seeing they return many good players, but everyone below them is a question. How will Trinity fill in the gap left in the backfield and how will their new lineman be? Who does Lufkin return? It's like that.. preseason polls are hard to do.

I guess returning 1 on offense and 3 on defense is many players

Riley Dodge, Tre Newton, Blake Cantu is a semi-returner. That is offensively anyway, knowing the program they are bound to produce more good players we don't know about yet.

Lufkin is only going to have 8 returning starters.......on offense:)

i don't think we'll count cantu until after spring training. he sounds like a good one, but he's got some learning to do. we could count ford however as he played signif minutes as a soph and in first 2 games last year.

If I had to name a Top 5 right now it would be (in no order)...

Lufkin
North Shore
Carroll
Katy
Garland

It's waaaay early and I haven't yet done the proper research, but these are the teams that jump off the page at me right now. This will be the easiest year since '03 to name a #1.

7 of the 10 are good bets because they are always in contention, at least over the past few years. The other three; Woodlands, Plano and A&M are included, I feel, because of their 2005 sucesses. At this time of year this a good list/guess based on the limited information.

Only one person mentioned Cy Falls, who will be returning nearly all of their key players. I'm not saying they are a 1-5... but they are at least considerable for top 10 in my opinion.

we have everyone coming back, rb-palmer unanimous all district as a sophmore but was out for playoffs cause of a torn acl,wr-lewis who nearly had 1000 recieving yards and 70 catches, a defense that returns nearly everyone and also the #1 kicker in the nation in szymansi

The current juniors on the A&M Consolidated have been winners since 7th grade. College Station has two junior highs...the combine record of this class in 7th and 8th grade was 36-2. Their only losses were to each other by identical scores. This class as freshman were both undefeated in district (both A team and B team were undefeated). This class as sophomores on the JV were undefeated in district (both A team and B team were undefeated). As juniors, they lost their first district game ever (Copperas Cove 21- A&M Consol 14); however, the team advanced to the Texas AAAAA Division I semi-final game.

In addition, the current A&M Consol sophomores (JV "A" Team) were district champions in 2005.

Consol will be loaded in 2006 and should make waves in the playoffs.

Hmmm. Abilene High's defense will be pretty solid. Offense is the question this year. O-line's set with three returning starters (Zeller, Harvey, and Carey, who was an all-junior team selection from this site), but WR, QB, and RB will be the quesiton. So, what we have is a senior laden defense with an untested offense with a junior QB at the helm.

Sound familiar?

Katy doesn't have a QB yet. Isn't this a re-load season for Katy? Wouldn't Katy more likely be a pre-season top 10 but not in the top 5? I would put Lufkin at #1 if they are returning 8 players on offense. That's almost the entire offense. Should be another good year for the Pack.

well north shore returns about 30 lettermen ... and returns some big names on offense and defense.... if im not mistaken... 4 offense 4 defense....or very close to this..they always reload with good talent.. so the holes should fill in nicely... all everything chykie brown had to wait till his senior year to get the playing time.. ill have to sit down and really look at the roster again... but... NS's biggest question will be how the next QB handles the position... Fizer is 6'2" 185 lbs and is a speedster.... but who knows if he will be next in line.... it remains to be seen..but then again... with Fizer and Gainous in the backfield.... watch out:eek:

5A is a whole different ball game. Hebron had 2300 students this calender year. I would say they were the largest 4A school in Texas this year. Better than Plano? Don't think so. No more Frisco schools to beat up on 40-0. It's time for them to play their big brothers. It will be all the Lewisville schools, Carollton schools and maybe Jesuit in a new district.

Plano schools, Allen, Wylie, Lake Highlands, Pearce and Berkenr in the new 85a.:)

Wow, history has this funny way of repeating itself, we have seen Ryan, SLC, SV all move up to 5A and not miss a beat. I take it you didnt see Hebron play this past year, had they been in 5A I believe they would have had a great shot at a regional bid. Next year they will be a force once again.

What exactly does Plano return that is to be so feared?

As far as districts go, if that were to be the case and Hebron winds up in with the CFB ISD and Jesuit then they will run away with that district.

Most top 4A schools can compete in 5A easily. The only real difference between 4A and 5A football teams is the depth. So the argument saying Hebron or other top 4A schools will "get there @#@ handed to them" doesnt hold water.
