I'm just curious. Did the team from Mexico improve any from last year? The score was closer, but I wasn't sure if y'all were just being nice.
I travel to Mexico quite a bit, and Football has become huge.

From what I saw the team from Mexico came better prepared than last year, and their linemen were HUGE. There were also some special team issues that allowed them to set up scoring drives that otherwise could have played out differently. The game could have been a 35-7 game without the special team errors, but its in the past and I'm sure that they have worked on getting those jitters out of their systems in practice by now, we'll have to see.

Good assement. I would say they were better prepared and understand playing us last year helped them repeat as Mexico National Champs. They also beat a south Texas 4A school before our game. So they are getting better.

Yes, an Athletic director in Larado or somewhere down south talk to Westerberg when we had hole in the schedule and set it up for them to come up from Mexico for two years. Last years team was a little small on the lines but this years was a lot larger. They had the story last year in Sports Illustrated and this year the DMN. Both teams spent the day of the game sharing culture and eating together. The Allen band played the Mexican National Anthem both years as they did not have a band. From what I gathered they have won the Mexican National Championship the last couple years and are 11-3 against Texas 4A & 5A teams.

They have been getting better, but Allen should still handle them. All the same, props to them...leaps and bounds. They used to be a gimme win for valley teams, but they are taking it serious now. I can tell you one thing, more international love for football is only good for the sport.

I agree, it's nice to see our great sport getting more recognition across the border.... however there's something special about it being an exclusive sport ;)

They were very much improved. I am not sure how much of the improvement was because they had some "Andre the Giant" Dudes on the O-Line.
It is hard to tell from this pic but you get a sense for it.

Last year they were not as prepared for how fast the game moved and how fast the players were. I heard that one or two coaches from Monterrey came to Longview vs Allen and scouted that game. The Mtty coach's play calling was much better and they had some faster stronger athletes.
All in all they were more prepared to play at the high level.
The special teams situations mentioned were a little strange. One punt took a real bad funky hard bounce back toward the punting team and caught an Allen player on the foot and Mtty recovered. The second wass a real wierd accidental onside kick that went about 25 yards in the air and hit 12 yards on the ground and then bounced back toward the Mtty players and they recovered it.
I still have not decided if I am going to do the highlight video for that game...
Cheers,

No doubt this year's team was better than last year's. Faster, bigger, and the QB threw the ball well and stayed in the pocket.

Somehow that statement is funny, coming from an Allen poster bd-dog. You're starting to sandbag worse than Trinity. :laugh
