Lots of chatter in East Texas over SFA's 92-0 win over Texas College. Texas College is an NAIA school out of Tyler.

I place most of the blame on Robert Hill - SFA AD for scheduling this game - which is akin to a large 5A school playing a country 1A school. Insane to schedule this game three years ago - regardless of what improvement you thought tiny Texas College might make.

The score was 50-0 at half, and SFA students claim the team turned the ball over to keep from scoring another TD toward the end of the game.

SFA normally throws 50 times a game - that is their system. Jeremy Moses was like 9-11 with 6 TD's.

I think the whole thing stinks. SFA should have done a better job at running dive plays while up 50+ -0. There is no way to keep scoring against your will.

Interestingly enough - Coach Harper of SFA got some flack the previous week against SMU for ordering his D to lay down on a running play to give his O another shot at tying the game. SMU was up by 1 at the time with 1 minute left and SFA out of TO's. They scored on the gimmee and ended up winning by 8. I don't like crap like that - it never makes sense to me to do that.

I've lost a ton of respect for Coach Harper, who I really liked, over both issues.

Wasn't there a rule made after the 1971 Miami/Florida game that if a team didn't try, they could have to forfeit the game? Something about UF's players all falling to give Miami a TD so that UF (up like 41-7) could get their QB a passing record or something...

Coach Harper said "We had to let them score there, that was the only chance we had to win. I'll take the heat for giving them a TD so we could get the ball back."

The game summary link online doesn't have his quote.

Play better defense.
