It sounded like the Eagle "D" was not all that impressive but maybe the Coogs Offense maybe just that good. Their "o" line is pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between them an Garland next week. Garland's "D" is for real. We'll see then.

although cooper still put up some numbers, i'm much happier with this years secondary than those of the past few years. #7 made a great leaping knockdown that wouldve turned the game around had it been caught for the TD. Cooper didnt bust many big plays either, they were slow and methodical but consistently moved the ball 3-5 yards. they kept the ball out of Abilene's hands in the 1st half, so the onside kick was a brilliant call.

so defense could use some work, but its not like they were getting torched all night

Ahhh...... there goes Mr. positive again. :rolleyes: Tyler Lee's D will be much better that what we saw last night and their O can't hold a candle to Cooper's. Heslep is the best QB we will see until Cotton from NRH. Tyler Lee's O has DaDa Brown (who is very good) and what else? Honestly, 21 points from AHS should win this game IMHO. ;) And I bet the Simms boys score more than 21. :)

well he hasnt been able to show that the first two games, a non passing game has allowed teams to just attack him without worry of any passing damage.plus he is banged up a lil. may not play today vs kimball. could be able to play vs abeline though

I'm sure hoping that the rust was knocked off the D as they did looked better in the 2nd half. Agree Cooper does have very good O. You really have to see the Eagles play to realize the speed they have. #7 did make a great play on the pass play.. Was a sure TD if he had not made the play he did.

I don't think Lee's offense is able to spread the Eagle D out like Cooper was able to. Heslep is an outstanding QB and the play calling for Cooper was very good last night opening up some huge running lanes. Well shoot, I was just trying to get the Lee Kimball game on the radio and it has been canceled. They agreed last night to a 4 start but apparently the Kimball principal decided to cancel this morning. I was sure wanting another game before the Eagles come to town.

Sure glad some of you Eagle fans can make the trip. Maybe Dada can make the trip worth the trip and fly into the stadium and land at the 50 yard line right before the national anthem. He can, I swear, just ask Rapture.;)

I haven't seen Tyler Lee play but based on what I have read the Eagles shouldn't have any trouble at all. The only question I have is this will be the "youngsters" first road game but I highly doubt it will be as difficult a crowd or setting as last night was against Cooper.

Eagle D will shut down a one dimensional offense fairly easily if the coaches will let the kids play. The offense is, for lack of a better word, special. The Eagles have been loaded on offense before (2001, 2004, 2005) but this offense will eclipse them all IMO.

So all that to say...

Tyler Lee will be a tough D...better than Cooper but will get worn down chasing all the speed AHS O puts on the field this year. Seriously....I have never seen AHS put more team speed on the field....this O is SCARY fast!!!
AHS D will put 9 in the box and shut Brown down since Lee has shown no passing game at all this year. I predict a close first half then AHS pulls away in second and wins 45-17.
Not making the trip...gonna stay in Abilene and go to the Cooper - Garland game.

And Mansfield had <forgot his name> and he ran over us controlling the ball all night. Our defense could not stop the guy. Other than their running back, their offense was not much to talk about.

Guys I'm telling ya' this may be alot better game than most are expecting. Remember it is not at all unusual for a Mike Owens coached football team to lose early. The state championship year Lee lost 3 games and 2 of those were to Longview and Lufkin, the other was to Trinity in pre-district but they met again in the semi-finals and handled the Trogans rather well.

I have no doubt this wil be good game. 1st road game for this years team. Abilene has always traveled well but we have lot of young kids. I'm interested to see if AHS can handle the run pressure from Lee.

Hopfully weather will not be an issue. It has rained everyday for a week, but other than last weekend lightning has not been a problem.

How about one of you guys making the trip just swing by Mary's there at Strawn and pick up a chicken fried steak for me, MAN, that stuf will make your tongue slap your brains out. :)

I think Abilene will get a couple of big plays but the big chunks of yardage they've gotten so far will be few and far between. They will have to sustain drives longer than a minute to win this game. Eagle81, I think you are a wise ol' bird. I wish I had more faith in my RED Raiders than I do right now but I really just don't know. No doubt they have played the tuffer schedule of the two to this point. I feel that they are at a point of starting to gel, but I sure wish last weeks game had not been canceled.

Eagle81 you could be exactly right in your assessment but don't get me wrong, I am not trying to disrespect Tyler Lee for being bad at all, in fact they are a quality opponent. What I am displaying is a total respect for the most explosive, dynamic offense ever to step foot on a football field for AHS. They are still young and growing and Lee should provide a good barometer as to what they are going to be capable of this season. I think great things, but really it is anyone's guess...my guess just happens to be that AHS will continue to grow as an offense and put up large crooked numbers.

It just happens that the flu has hit our schools hard. The middle school that I am at lost half of its volleyball team today due to the flu. Most Abilene fans do not make excuses, we just inform or state our opinion. If the Eagles get beat by lee, then we will take it and try to regroup for Burleson. On the other hand, if lee loses, you will whine and cry about uh something. I hope none of the kids in Tyler get the flu stuff. By the way The Lady Eagles had to cancel a match a couple of weeks ago because the entire team had flu like symptons. Yes, Rapture is a blatant, blind homer than knows next to nothing about football. However, I don't believe the entire Lee program loses respect over what one person says on an internet site. Rapture/Big Red & Cujo only loses respect for himself. All I am saying is we lose respect with a great football community like this one...because of a stupid poster. I know we have issues but our defense last year was one of the best in the state. So they still demanded some respect. We are not what we once were but hey talent doesn't roll in every year like it does in 1 school towns. We now have 4 private schools playing football where it use to be 1. Tyler has lost a lot of jobs the last two years and the trend isn't changing. People are moving out to where it use to be people were moving in. Also, you can see a shift of talent at the middle school level right now. Nothing new seen it happen many times before. No one schools dominates forever, it goes in cycles and we will be back, hopefully it won't take 5 years.

Yeah, both Cooper and Lee are running at will. You know Mansfield exposed this last year without C. Williams up the middle. Makes all the difference in the world.

we have one of the most explosive, high octane offenses in the state. i will put those boys up against anyone in this whole state, but our Defense is killing us this year. Coach Fullen is an amazing coach but theres only so much he can do with these little guys. they don't play big either. jerrod carroll was every bit of 5'8 so i know our guys we have now are capable of much more than they have showed so far this season, its just a matter of how bad they want it...

i cant remember having a tight end this good and actually utilizing him like we do with parker. ben gibbs and matt lackey were both damn good TE's but we didnt use them like we are this season. i think parker is a better athlete and has definitely added another dimension to this offense that we havent really used under warren that i can remember.

and thats just the guys we have on offense. josh jones who plays linebacker can really scoot and he played rb his freshman year. very much a tavares sharp type, he wont run by you he will run OVER you like a mack truck. the kid is a player.

Eagles falter down the stretch but win 34-29. this game wasn't close until the last 15 minutes. we have to find a way to close games because if we let a better team hang around like we did with Lee tonight we will lose. Great game Abilene! I didn't expect Lee to win but I was glad they put up a fight a made it a great game. Sometimes I question Lee play calling. We get 1st downs by running the ball and get close to scoring we wonna start throwing the ball. I'm like this, if they can't stop the run, why throw it?

Didn't make the trip...watched Garland beat Cooper and kept up with AHS - Tyler Lee on gofridaynight.com play by play.
Congrats to the Eagles for pulling out a win in a tough place to play. Sounds like our lil old defense struggled again but were able to pull out enough stops for the O to pull it out. Simms boys and co. are a beast.
Our D better be ready for a much improved Burleson team who are gonna try to run it down our throats next week to start District play.

There will never be anyone like him again, Jerrod was the toughest meanest kid I've even seen play. Pound for pound he was the best I've seen. If he had Chris Williams' size he probably literally would have taken someone's head off! :ninja: That and he had great instincts, I think he was in on 90% of the plays he was on the field for. Dang he was fun to watch!

I wish they could find just one kid like him on this defense, that coupled with this offense and it will be a long season.

Went to game and saw an Eagle D that is very soft. Lets see, blew a 24 point lead in the 2nd half, could not cover the outside or sweeps, was slow to react to the reverse, tried to knock people over instead of wraping up( when you'er small you have to tackle well),missed tackle after missed tackle and arm tackles all night. Strange thing. Had two guys in front of us with clip boards. We got to talking and found they were JV coaches. I ask where from and all they would say was they were from East Texas. After the game I ask how they would grade the AHS D.They both gave a C in the 1st half and a D+ second half. They felt if ya give up a big lead and the game comes down to the last play there is a problem. Now the stranger part.... one of the guys remarked that AHS had given up a touch down on the last play of their last two games. I did not recall that and it seemed odd they would know that info. Well,now the coaches have a good amout to work on before district. I believe 3-5A is not a walk in the park for Abilene any longer. But man the O is very good.

grew up around the Carroll boys...heard Justin and Jerrod were playing video games, and Justin won, so Jerrod literally threw him through a wall. tough family lol
