I want to see how good yall are at the guessing game. How many visits (not hits...that would be a much higher number) do you think this site received in 2005? A visit, or session, is calculated every time a unique computer logs onto the site. It's the closest representation of how many people are visiting a web site you can get really.

It may be impacted by how many users have static IPs or not.... it wouldn't take many of your users to boost the "visit" count if their IP address changes each log on.

Yeah, there is no real way to tell how many actual people are looking at a web site because of things like that.

Most advertisers will consider investing in a web site if it gets 20,000-30,000 visits/sessions per month. Hits don't mean anything really. Pageviews are more valuable to them than hits because that tells them how many pages are viewed on average in a typical visit/session.

Hit numbers look impressive, but visits/sessions and pageviews can actually mean something.

I was guessing off of how many posts I have seen on some people's totals. I figured there are a lot more hits during the season than now. I probably overshot it.

I guessed between 500,000 and a million.

Even if they don't mean to be here, people randomly stumble into this place.

KT, are you hinting that you are getting offers from ad companies? If so, please to not get pop-ups...i would be very disappointed.

KT2000

No, no offers right now. Came very close last fall though. No pop ups allowed. That was actually a condition of the deal we tried to get last year.

I gotta be totally honest...

when i first read this topic title I thought "what kind of visits? conjugal?"

Hmm, I guess I'm not allowed to participate...;)

Even though this doesn't pertain directly to the original question, I think it is interesting to note that the average visitor spent 9 minutes and 16 seconds on the site per session and that the average visitor saw 10 pages per session.

So when you take Lonny out... the average visitor spends 4 minutes and 30 seconds on this site and views 5 pages.

Here's a hint:

You know, I was going to say something myself about not being the average visitor.

Does the fact I stay logged on all the time affect it? Does it only count when I open the webpage back up?

I count for at least 22 different IP addresses myself. I logged on using 3 computers in Kyrgyzstan and since we moved offices, that's 3 more. I used 3 different computers in the Green Bean Cafe in Kyrgyzstan. I logged on in Turkey and Germany. I logged on in both of my houses last year along with my parents house and both of my mom's apartments. I got on there in Universal City at the Comfort Inn, a hotel in Kingsville, and Brownsville. I had computers at work at Randolph and Sheppard and probably one more at Randolph.

A session is initiated only when the site is visited that initial time. If you leave the site, but come back within 15 minutes, it's still considered the same session. If you stay logged on all the time, it will skew the average visit time a bit, but it is capped at 1 hour from what I can tell. Only 7% of the sessions last longer than 30 minutes and nearly 40% last less than 10 seconds.

If that stuff is capped at an hour, what happens if I stay on more than an hour? Do I get credited for multiple visits without logging off? That also means I get 2 visits if I'm on there and come back in 2 hours.

If it goes past an hour, it's still counted as the same session.

Since you guys have all this nice software, how much time did I spend on here in 2005? I know it has to be a ridiculous number. I'll get cheated for staying on longer than an hour, but I'll also get credit for staying logged in and getting an hour each time.

I guessed a millon. Probably off, but it just seemed that this past year we were getting a lot of traffic from outsiders. Got some people from 4A and under schools as well as the Ohio folks and now recently the Alabama folks. Plus with Plano making the run they did that was good for a load of Cat fans to use the board. I am probably off, I just figured with the year we had this year and all the intensity to see if Carroll could repeat that we hit a million.

I don't have all of your IP addresses handy, but you initiated 1,103 sessions (154 of which were in May) from Wichita Falls, which is X.XX% of the grand total. :D

I was in Converse and Universal City from Jan-beginning of April. I was in Wichita Falls from Apr-Aug. I must have some killer numbers from Kyrgyzstan.

Since the board crashed in April, you won't have any visits from me in SA except the hotel in Universasl City.

Five of you guessed right.

2005: 1,126,517 visits (over 10 million pageviews and 65 million hits)

Doubled the traffic visit wise from 2004 to 2005.

I keep going into each season thinking the traffic will level off, but it keeps growing.

As far as what's ahead...

January 2006 is twice as big as Jan. 2005 traffic wise already and we've still got five days left.

Congrats admins on getting us to visit more often. The extra forums really helped out with the visits this year.
