View Full Version : OU's offense = done. Defense? Not so.

A lot of hype was quickly silenced by the loss of Gresham and Bradford, the best offensive players we have. Not to mention the o-line was an absolute disaster against BYU. The recievers are soft and drop passes, and Chris Wilson is too much of a wuss to let Landry do what he was recruited for, throwing the deep ball.
The defense, however, looks to be very good. Yes, you can say they blew it by giving up the late TD against BYU, but it's hard to stop a good team with a good QB every single drive while your offense goes 3 and out almost every drive. They produced 4 turnovers, 2 of them resulted in OU turning it back over a few plays later. The defense will keep us in every game this year, the question is how long will they be able to stay healthy.
Do I think Texas will beat us, yes. But just because our offense will be bad doesn't mean it's going to be a blowout. Gerald McCoy is a stud, no denying that. If he has more games like he did against BYU, look for him to be a solid #2 pick next year in the draft.
I would hate to see Texas claim another national title, but I would rather see the Big 12 steal one from the SEC.

i'm still numb from just finding out about gresham. it ******* blows. i feel so bad for the guy.
the D will keep us in games, no doubt i agree...if the offense (o-line/wr's) doesn't step up we'll win 8 or 9 games. :Censor:

Their D is talented but it will be hard for them to hold teams after they have been on a short field all day long.

its looking like he will be out for the season. They will the the surgery, which will reveal what exactly the problem is....right now it looks like it is a cartilage issue...not good for the All-American.
does zerou still have that stable or runningbacks?
if so, triple option?

The BYU game taught me only that if your Heisman winning QB goes down to be replaced by a RS Fresh in a game against a top 20 team, things will be tough. Color me surprised with that one.
OU will be a stout team, one of the best in the nation, but they will struggle against other good teams without so much of their offensive production. Any team would, OU got unlucky enough to get snakebit this year.

Most truth in this thread so far.

That is the key to me..That defense looked very very good, but when they go against top offenses, they will be tired by the 2nd half without the ability of an offense to sustain drives and give them breaks.

westplano was quick to write off our offense...but i think over time, it will become better. i expect it to improve over time with jones in at qb and i expect sam to shake off some rust and it will improve even more. the days of 60 points a game are long gone but that doesn't mean this offense will struggle all year. if the o-line improves (certainly can't get worse) and wilson get's his head out of his *** and stops being such a puss with the playcalling, we can be golden.

Let's not get too crazy now...Oklahoma is still Oklahoma until the wheels totally fall off. :D

this...obviously, imitating last season's efficiency wasn't gonna happen very likely, but i don't think anyone anticipated all that has happened thus far...still, it is a long season, w @ least 11 games left to go...
The hits keep coming, although he is expected to play with a "slightly broken hand".
NORMAN — Brody Eldridge, the most effective member of Oklahoma’s lackluster offensive line Saturday, has a broken bone in his finger, coach Bob Stoops confirmed Wednesday after practice. Eldridge did participate in Wednesday's practice and is expected to play Saturday against Idaho State.
Earlier this week, OU coaches said Eldridge was working more at tight end, his position the past three years, than at center, where he started in the Sooners’ 14-13 loss to BYU.
“I think Brody had the best grade of the linemen. He had 20 knockdowns,” offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Tuesday. “But I felt we missed an edge with Jermaine being out.”
