Reportedly a first for the LP program - Dez Bryant is your SI cover this week:

His first TD grab was jaw-dropping, even for Dez.

As much as I like Dez on the cover....I hope nothing happens (injuries, etc). The SI jinx is REAL and I for one respect it.

Coach Sumlin is a great coach. You can rest assured he will have a better game plan than Georgia OC Mike Bobo did last week and he will not rest on a 7-0 lead. I still like Okie St to win this game.

Good article on Griffin, and on Greg McElroy. Texas boys continue to shine this year!

I actually like Dez. He has some of the best leaping ability and great hands I have ever seen in person. He has also struggled mightily on the road in college.

Dez on the road - 2008

WSU - 7 catches - 0 TD's - 42 yrd. punt return
Mizz - 7 catches - 0 TD's
Tex - 6 catches - 0 TD's
Tech - 4 catches - 0 TD's
Color - 4 catches - 1 TD
Oreg (bowl) - 13 catches - 1 TD (injured)

Those really don't look like struggling numbers to me.

I guess you could say Dez "struggled" since he is the No. 1 receiver, and he is all-american, however, most No. 1's would take those stats on the road.

Then, you look at the fact that OSU struggled on the road against Tech and Texas - and that both teams made sure he would not beat them - and that other teams such as the Buffs double-teamed Dez so he wouldn't go off on their home field.

I would conclude those statements are a bit over-generalized.

What were Crab's stats at Norman last year? And, let's make sure we chunk the 4th qtr. numbers when OU was laughing more than playing.

1 TD in 5 games is great?

Look, I'm not a hater. maybe it's purely coincidental, but the guy has not produced on the road. YOUR numbers even support that.

Dez is the best WR in college football right now, no question. I don't believe for a minute in any sort of road jinx. I'd be interested to see his QB's road numbers. A WR's ability to peform is linked inextricably to how well his QB performs. I'd also like to see average YPG and CPG compared home/road to see whether his performance is down across the board on the road or just in one category, which would suggest coincidence.

2008
at nevada- 7/158/ 1 TD
at KSU- 9/107/ 2
at A&M- 8/71/2, also had 1 KOR for 50yds and was hurt in the second quarter on a KOR

at Kansas- 9/70/ 2
at OU 3/ 30?( no TDS and could not find the yardage anywhere)
Ole Miss@ Cotton Bowl 4/30/ 1 TD

Everything after the A&M was nothing but determination. Even the infamous UT play was made with a busted up right foot/ ankle.

I guess you're going to suggest he faced single coverage all the time while Dez is tripled...

Who in the world said his road stats were great? I didn't - but, I did say it's unfair and over-generalized to say he "struggled"

Yards
90
47
74
82
167

Those look like struggling numbers?

Look at Crabs road games against OU and Ol Miss. Throw out KState and Aggie - for obvious reasons.

4 catches - 1 TD against the Rebels
6 catches - 62 yards - 0 td's in the game of the century for TT against OU.

No difference - none at all.

In one game maybe, not all of them...

While Crabby didn't tear it up yardage wise, he scored half of his TDs last season on the road.

Another thing, Dez had chances to make plays in the Tech game and dropped some crucial passes. I'm going by what I saw.

I would acknowledge Dez pressed against Texas and Tech as a true soph., but he did not struggle on the road, or have road jinx. OSU played horrendous D against Tech - so the O was pressing all game long.

Beyond that, I think Raider fan is remembering fairly idiotic commentary from Mussed-upBerger.

he had nothing to do with what Tech fan said about Dez. I said early in the year last year that Dez never had a road TD.

As far as Crab goes, the boy was hurt from the A&M game on and that impacted his performance a lot.

You're wrong - look at my stats. I think Dez would have gone off against Mizzou and he was destroying Oregon - and got hurt in both games.

Crabby would have had no impact on Sooner because Graham didn't have time to find him.

I acknowledge part of the argument - but to say Dez "struggled on the road" is an over-generalization. He would have had similar results against Houston, A&M, etc. on the road or at home. He would have struggled against Texas at home a little.

As far as the cover jinx goes, there is plenty evidence where it didn't happen to go with the cases where there were problems.

Saying that, I hope it works!:D

Speaking of SI, have any of you cats ever let your subscription run out and keep gettting issues? My buddy in New Jersey started getting it in the mid 90's and let it run out. He kept getting it for free for about the next 12 years (He'd even send them address change cards!), but he stopped getting it sometime in 07 or 08. He thinks God let it run out so he could order it again to get all the Phillies stuff after they won the World Series!:D

The reason why I bring it up was I kept getting mail from SI about my (Free) subscription running out and 2 weeks ago I got one that said it was my last issue, but since then Tony Romo and Dez Bryant have showed up in the 'ol mailbox!:D If it weren't for me wondering how long they're going to send me magazines, I'd call them about it.

Dez has had road games with decent yardage numbers. He had 80 something in Lubbock last year. To be honest, I think he's had to grow as a receiver and will be better this year, but it sure has been fun saying he's terrible on the road!:D
