Thoughts?
Don't know much about Berkner, but I'm confident in the Eagles. DeSoto by 10+.

I think DeSoto will be on a mission for a while. A very fine team who is going to make some noise as long as they keep believing and learn each week. That means ALL of Desoto. :)

Berkner beat Desoto last year 10-7 at Desoto. Anyone know what happened last year? Can it happen again?
I think Desoto by alot.
42-17.
Desoto appears to have a lot of talent, just do not see them coming together and beating Berkner though.

If Berkner is still running the Double wing option and minimizes turnovers they will keep it close. I say Desoto by less than 10. I will dare to say they will see a better defense than they did in CH and Plano.

Eagles loaded with speed and talented athletes. Eagles can be explosive on offense when executed with the weapons they have. Don't know much about Berkner but cannot imagine being better than CHill on offense or defense(could be wrong) and shutting down DeSoto. Will be different than last years closely fought game. Eagles are hungry and on a mission, therefore Eagles by two touchdowns.:)

I'm picking DeSoto. After watching their game with Cedar Hill, the Eagles made a LOT of mistakes, blew a lead and still almost won. If DeSoto can eliminate the mistakes and keep their coach on a leash...I think they may be for real.

I think that Desoto is very good. They are going to be incredible this year. Berkner is a little unknown. That's why they intrigue me a little. Their defense has been one of the best around the last couple of years and they won last year. This is on my upset watch list. I expect a tight game and if Berkner can move the ball some on offense I think they have a chance. But it is a David v. Goliath type of match up. Berkner may not have the D1 standouts but i think they will be solid. 31-28 either way. But I really want to pick Berkner.

If I remember right Berkner was one of the top defenses in the state last year, and I think they got their entire front back. I know they lost a backer that was pretty good, but other than that they should be very solid again. Berkner shut down DeSoto last year, and I expect the same out of them again.
Berkner has one of the top kickers in the state and DeSoto has some of the worst special teams play I have ever seen after watching the Plano game, that could be a huge swing in Berkner's favor.
If Berkner can put together anything offensively with their triple option, this game could be one to watch as far as an upset in Berkner's favor....

The Eagles should win & dominate with the athleticism the team has even with their poor kicking game. However the X factor tonight is the weather. With inclimate weather in the forecast, Berkner with its running game and clock management, would have a distinct advantage. Should be interesting.:)

I wouldn't sell Berkner short in this game. You can alway bet they're going to be well coached and they won't give the game away. DeSoto is going have to beat them by being the better team.

Wow. What a game. I thought the little guys at Berkner gave them all they wanted. Berkner 's defense was absolutly amazing. To hold Desoto with all those athletes to 1 offensive TD on a long play is pretty good. I was impressed with Berkner, and disappointed in Desoto's behavior.

Berkner has some solid coaches and a good program.

They are going to suprise some teams this year. It will be very difficult to move the ball on them. Cedar Hill gave up 41 to Desoto, Plano gave up 41 to Desoto. Berkner gave up one TD to Desoto's offense. 7 points on a 60 yard screen pass. Desoto also ran back a kickoff to make it 13-10 Desoto.

Who cares about a morale victory. Is the little guy your talking about #10 the QB. he was nothing special. that offence they run can be stop by stacking the box. desoto killed them selfs with penaltys

You are so correct. DeSoto had so many penalties, and still came out victorius. We also had some dropped passes in the endzone too! Berkner is fine, but DeSoto is a far better team. Berkner is the only team thus far that put in hurt players over and over, so they can use extra time. (We caught on to that very quick) But we still escaped a victory despite the penalties, refs, and taunting. Our defense did a great job!

We'll just have to see if there is another team that plays them better than Berkner did on defense.

Please! We made our own mistakes that killed us. Everyone going into the game knew it was going to be a battle, but if you were there, you would know that we killed ourselves with penalties. Nothing about them stopping us. So, yes, we will see some more good defensive teams. We have one of the toughest schedules around.

EagleMom, I certainly know partisan, and understand being a homer. And I agree, Desoto has a mighty fine team that will make some noise. However, this is the second 'excuse game' I have heard from you. The other was Cedar Hill. You won this game, but not by much. PENALTIES ARE PART OF THE GAME. Mistakes reflect preparation, discipline, knowledge, and execution. Berkner played you a good game. Give them credit. You stopping yourself due to penalties as an excuse just confirms some of the contentions made earlier regarding coaching, you can't have it both ways.

No doubt, they played us a great game. You are correct penalties are a part of the game, and like I said we killed ourselves. It's not an excuse, it is a FACT, that we have killed ourselves. If we made as many penalties as we did against Berkner to Cedar Hill or to Plano, they would have beaten us bad. So that is what I am basing my information on. We still beat Berkner, with all the penalties, we couldn't have done that with the others. So no excuse, just plain fact. So no, can't give them the credit just yet, sorry!

I can't believe what you are saying. If you want to play the what if game. Berkner has more to regretthan Desoto. They fumble going into the endzone and the ball goes out of the back of the endzone for a touchback. They missed a field goal, and they jumped offsides on 2nd ang goal from the one inch line. The game should have been at least 17-13 at half and Berkner wins the game because neither team can score in the second half. If you want to play that game. Plano is terrible this year. Cedar Hill has great athletes but their defense did not play you guys near as good as Berkner did. Your coaches lost the CHILL game for you and Berkner didn't capitalize on their opportunites or you would have lost this game.

I went to 2 great defensive battles with weekend- Lake Highlands @ Garland and Desoto @ Richardson Berkner. Here is my feelings after seeing all four-
Garland- hard hitting defense, poor clock management, should win their district; lots of great athletes
Lake Highlands- should win 7 games and playoff team if QB Zorn stays healthy; defense is their question mark (see Mesquite Horn box score)
Desoto- so many athletes and so much talent; one of the most dangerous teams in DFW but they play a dirty brand of football and those 15 yd. penalties and play calling question marks could kill a playoff run;
# 2 Marcus Murphy is underrated RB
Richardson Berkner- playoff team and should challenge Skyline because the Berkner defense is unbelievable at getting stops. RB/LB Nakwaasah leads team and their triple option attack can keep them in games; well coached as they seem to be year after year

You are right, the 15 yard penalties killed us. It was nothing Berkner did, we did stupid things ourselves. It was a battle out on the field, and the kids just have to learn to keep their composure. If they do that in district or playoffs, they will not go far. Hopefully all these games they can take something from them and learn a lesson.

Same old DeSoto. Lack of discipline; lack of kicking game. Bad habits are hard to break, and that has been a habit this program has struggled with for the last five years.
