FYI
We are playing pretty ugly and the fan numbers are a little down but we still
travel well.

My roundtrip mileage for Permians scrimage in Van Horn was 351 miles. I don't think over 400 attended, maybe less.

My roundtrip mileage to San Antonio was 762 miles. mmmm I don't know how many went. I'm sure some on our side were from local areas.

Thats 1113 miles so far with a near 300 mile roundtrip to San Angelo on friday.

LOL, the last ten years and up until this year I followed Permian boys/girls basketball and girls volleyball without ever even considering a chance to see a win.

Yep, on the long travel. I saw on the SLC thread some one was crying about having to travel to Arlington....

Some in 3-5A have complained about coming to Abilene for games. West Texans travel farther in one game than some from DFW travel all year.

Yeah but we have traffic ;)

(understand this is from someone that made a few trips a year on a school bus from Robstown to the Valley for football games)

Thanks but it's so easy, if you can spend money on entertainment, why not spend it on the kids. It's real and in most cases it's honest. There are several other old timers who follow just as I do. I'm just the oldest. I left Odessa once in 1998 in a move to Del Rio. I didn't miss Permian game that year. That includes back to back to back trips from Del Rio to Dallas for Playoffs three weeks in a row. Thats 2550 miles.

There is no doubt that you guys have some of the best fans in the state when it comes to traveling to games. I've always been impressed by not only the size of the crowd, but just how genuinely nice everyone seems to be.

But, when it comes to distance traveled for a game, the Bingham, Utah team that Trinity plays on Monday has you beat. 991 miles....each way. Not sure how many of their fans will show up.

Good luck to you this season.

After Abilene beat SLC in 07 I will never forget seeing a car in the Euless area. A sign on the rear window that said "Hug a Trojan" --underneath it said "Thanks Abilene Eagles." that was nice to see going back through there the next week when we played Hebron. Always a Trojan fan after that..:notworthy

I made the Van Horn trip.
I made the San Antonio trip - over and back same day.
I made the San Angleo trip - stayed over.
Missed Amarillo.
Won't miss another one even though the furthest we have to go from here until the PO's is Lubbock. A measly 2 hours. :)

Odessa is in a tough spot. It's hundreds of miles to El Paso to the west, and it's hundreds of miles to Dallas to the east. And it's hundreds of miles southeast to Houston. Even Lubbock schools are far away. They're in the middle of nowhere.

The 40 mile round trip to Midland last week brought my total travel distance for Permian football games up to 2229 miles. Thats this season!

:notworthyIt doesn't get any better than you Permian fans. I think, the only ones that come close, are probably the Port Neches-Groves and Stephenville fans.

Question! What kind of car do you drive?

There are a few more of us still hanging in there with you. Now be ready to add around 300 miles for the Lubbock trip next Thursday. Also, at the moment it looks like El Paso El Dorado may be the opponent in the first round of the playoffs (if we make it) and we owe them a home game there this year. Another 600 plus if it happens. Over 3000 miles and hopefully going strong. 1/8th the circumference of the earth!

It was a EP Socoro. It wasn't too bad. I just looked at it as a Odessa 120 years ago.:)

In 2007 Coronado chartered a bus company out of Houston to drive us to El Paso for a first round playoff game against EP Franklin. As we were pulling into Hobbs, we were stopped and asked if we had permits to drive in New Mexico and we did not. We had to drive around the whole state of New Mexico and I think it ended up being an 11 hour bus ride. We got to the Sun Bowl an hour before out game. Total BS.
