Word is he's moving to College Station and will play at A&M Consolidated. Wonder if it has anything to do with him already being committed to A&M? I'm certainly not sad to see him leave Permian as an Abilene fan. :D
I'm not doubting this rumor but just wondering, why would they feel the need to move to A & M Consolodated if he already has a committment?

The big kid was there along with his family and I also saw the op internet hachy baba, camera in tow.
It was a fall like practice day so the kids had a lot of fire. One of the qbs stood out in my mind and he will be protected by three, I think, returning O-linemen which were pretty good last year. I didn't see a Berryhill type running back so for now the O-line will need to make gashes in the D. The recievers are fast and can catch.
The defense.... your guess is as good as mine. They look be bigger and stronger. I won't know whats in their heart until Smithson Valley rolls into the Rat.
We have seven home games this year and two other games in the GOA at Grande. Thats like 9 home games. Thats gotta help some.:)
Ya'll help me remember a child, first name Mirage, a soph to be from Hood. If he stays on the JV we might mention him time to time.

Mirage Bibb. He started out at QB for Hood freshman last season but they moved him to receiver. Very athletic kid. Looks like they want him back at QB. That could bear good fruit in a year or two. I could see him being a player in the mold of Jamie McCoy at Lee a few years back, or Marcus Johnson at Abilene a year or two before that.
As for LaCouture, I'll come clean. Yes, his parents put their house on the market, a few months back actually. I won't go into the family's details on the internet, but I'm 99.9% sure they won't be leaving Odessa until Christian graduates. I do know they were very anxious to serve as board members of the booster club, and in fact volunteered to head up the Media Day committee just last week. I can't imagine they'd be doing that if they planned to move. But hey, never say never.....

I missed the friday scrimmage but the big boys in the spit and whittle club told me there was no scores. My fear all along has been the defense. Smart huh?:)

Thank the Lord, I thought besides the Weston kid he was our best defensive player last year and he was only a Sophomore. This kid has got potential to be great. Also, I was ecstatic to learn he wants to go to the good-side and be part of the wrecking crew. The Aggies are cleaning up in recruiting this year and next!

Breaking news on this situation. Our D-line coach just defected to Midland Lee, and losing his big DE could be part of the reason why. Good luck to both coach and player in your future endeavors.

LaCouture is a kid with a lot of upside on the field, and some downside off. Raw talent, hasn't played football all that long. Came from a hockey background. Dad played pro hockey for 1 year so I've heard. They came here when dad got a job with the local minor league hockey team. Dad lost that job last year. I hear they've been struggling a little. Dad is also a classic "Little League" parent. Word is he demanded meetings with the coaches many times last season about perceived slights that were being done on his kid. For example, the coaches wouldn't let him wear the kind of faceguard he wanted to wear. There have also been problems in the locker room that I won't post here. But suffice it to say while the kid has a lot of potential, and you hate to lose a 6 ft 4 in. 260 pound monster that has committed to a D-1 school, there are also a lot of people, and players, that will be happy to say "don't let the door hit you in the ### on the way out". I've seen many times where a harmonious locker room is way more important than having a D-1 player.
Just my 2 pesos.

What does the team look like this year?
It's still too early for me to tell. The O- line for sure isn't ready for prime time. They had a devil of a time with the D line. The possibility of having two D-ends like Shaffer and Forrest (2007) exist. Heavy emphasis on possibility and exist.
Nebo could be our 14 game man. He runs smart and it's hard to get a angle on him.
In all, it's nothing that a Shawn Crow, Grady Wilkerson, Joe Bob Bizzell and Gene Mayfield couldn't fix.

The 3:00 pm practice yesterday was brutal @ 104-5 degrees. I'd give the kids a Trip A rateing simply because they stayed with it. The 5:45 pm practice was about 3 degrees better.
Truthfully with the temp and no pads I couldn't tell much about them. There is some size but they stayed on the other side of the field so I couldn't tell what they looked like. I really didn't see many dough boys among them. Closer to me were the LB's, D backs and safetys. They will be a upgrade from last year. The new coachs (5) are meshing fine. Boo-koos of kids out.
There seems to be qb battle looming. Both wrong handed but completely different styles. One reciever is hi-octane and as smooth as Drew Pearson the others are WIP, chicken one pass and feathers the next. The two rbs are sprinters. They look excellent w/o armor on. A D-lineman has turned part time fb and may hold the key to many Permian 1st. downs. I'll follow up on all of this after our scrimmage.
I'm attempting to hold positive thoughts down because I know SV61 is sneeking and waiting for bulletin board material for his Valley Boys from Smithson.

LOL, gonna make me work for it, huh? I'll see if me and Silver Haired Dad can come up with a little something. Maybe I'll bring up the OP kicker from last year. Would still like to know what that was all about. Does anybody else remember when he came to the SV side after kicking off, yelling something to the SV sideline?
Trying to stay optimistic here, but injuries may prohibit my trip up to Ratliff. I'll keep you posted. AND, I will probably skip the train ride................

Well our boys are practicing down here in our indoor ac practice facility, but they are just loafing around. Planning on making the trip with many to Permian land, looking forward to it. Is there any place to park an RV about 3:00 pm withing minimum walking distance and break out some bar-b-que pits and do a little tailgating. We plan to show up and act like we are real important.:D
Most of Permian Dads I talked with at a few camps, expect you guys to be very solid this year. And we expect to be OKay I suppose.
Will not be close to what Permian brough to SV last year. Budget cuts severely limiting our distant traveling.

Our 128 pound kicker? He may have seen someone on your bench smaller than he that thought he could whip. Or he may have been mad about your parking plight.
Injuries? Rub some dirt on them and come on up.

Ratliff is located smack dab in the middle of a flat barren plain about the size of Russia. I know you can find a picture of the stadium and parking facility someplace on the net. The OP, Mojo Nation or odessapermian has grafic descriptions of the facility. But The parking lot is huge, paved and it's fenced by a 10 foot tall terrorist proof fence. End Zones are North and South you will sit in the east(closest to Midland) stands. It will be shady on your side about 11:30 pm......... in January.:)
They have always allowed RVs and tailgating. There will be Permian folks in RVs also doing the same thing.

I was pretty confident that we (SV fans) would be lookin into the sun. Unless of course, I sniper my way into the home side, and sit in the shade for the first half.
Isn't SV O coordinator the father of one of the OP coaches? I thought I read that last season, right before this game. The Wife (mom) ended up sittin on the SV side. No doubt because she was in the shade.

It's possible I could have a ticket, maybe two but I never know. With 5 grow up kids and 11 grown up grand children I never know until just before game time. 99% of the time there are ticket holders standing in front of the homeside ticket booth hawking tickets and always at face value. You wouldn't be able to use any bought for Permians home side to enter into the visitors side.
I know of a recent buy of two season tickets including future options that were picked up for 1000.00. So even with a record of 4-6 last year in these parts Mojo is still a big deal.
I'll see what I can do but it will be in the week of the game before things shake out.
Yeah, a funny thing on the way to the 2011 season, that coach left Permian to go teach(only) in the pineapple state. His dad, your coach, Played for Permian, coached at Permian, coached at OHS and coached at Midland Lee and maybe others before SV. His family were long time civic leaders in Odessa His dad was heavely involved in fund raising efforts for the Boys Club. IMO He would probably would still be at Midland Lee if not for soccer moms. A Leach type deal and led by a supt. who has since been released..
Wish you guys could send your band out!

I believe the coach you're talking about, Randy Quisenberry, is one of your defensive coaches as well as strength and conditioning coach.
Funny story....he was actually slated to become our offensive coordinator before last season. Coach Gaines had him lined out, gave him the playbook to get started, told him he would be approved when the school board got back from Christmas break. Unfortunately after the break Gaines was told that he would not get approval to hire Quisenberry, so we wound up hiring somebody else instead. The rest is history.

The Permian D didn't have enough rocks in their pockets to stop the big SV running back. Their QB has a knack for converting on 3rd and longs. Permian fought hard and @ three plus left in the game and six points behind, about 80 yards from a score coughed it up on a flat pass, in fact about a yard too flat(backwards). We did out yard them and out firstdown them, which is always worth nothing against a solid well coached team. They won because they were better.

What a great stadium, setting for high school football, we had an excellent road trip. big tailgate party and the boys made the game interesting for sure. Got in about 5:00 am with no incidents that i'm aware, of.
Mojo fans sitting in front were very sporty and cool, talked with some at halftime and great bunch of guys.
But the best was the football game. It was a hard hitting affair, and lawerence seem to find some running room behind our O-line.
Not sure about your QB controversy but #25 can play, he kept taking a hit, getting up and making a play, not sure how many he stepped out of and around and then would make a play, it just seemed to keep happening.
Good luck rest of the way, an out of district game that most at SV would like to see continue, two great programs.

Thanks, We put our nice guys on the visitors side:) I hate a loss but it's not so bitter coming at the hands of a very good team backed by good fans. Go ahead and clean up 4-A and we'll try to overcome our last place district ranking. :(
Been a busy last 24 hours, but wanted to post here first.
First of all, Thanks to Mojotrain being an awesome cruise director. Excellent advice on all things, and even sat around waitin on our bunch to show up, and introduce himself. How cool is that?
What a great place for a HS football game (shoot, a DII college game). Really neat to walk up the tunnel and look out on the field for the first time.
We too, had some OP people in front of us. They were just fine, and we hem and hawed throughout the game. I know a lot of us were gripin about the heat last night. I say, let those griping about the heat, sit at the Rat, when a Cold front blows in!
Game was really good. Isn't it funny how Turnovers or special teams can decide a game? Game was actually pretty well played, till the 4th quarter. Missed/blocked extra points, backward passes and Ints, really helped decide this game. #25 for Permian is a very good athlete. Others were #18. SV could not stop zone read ALL NIGHT. Not sure why Gaines EVER went away from it.
Also, I will know better after this week. I suspect that OP had bacon grease on their jerseys. I have NEVER seen so many broken tackles by SV, EVER. Is that because OP guys (ALL OF THEM) were that hard to bring down, or the SV boys will be working on tackling this week? We'll know better shortly.
In summary, I didn't encounter ONE bad experience on my trip. I thought I might get to ride a Segway, when the SD Cop came by. He laughed, and
politely declined.

Yes we give up lots of yards. But a poster on another site said we had no film on them. And yes we do worry. They hit us for more yards and more points than SV. By comparing the Ds they were not as quick as SV. They were a well coached team IMO.

Another interesting point...this is one of those "if, if, if" things, but IF you take away Bethels safety (not on the starting defense), their kick return touchdown (not on the starting defense), their gadget play touchdown against a mix of starters and backups late in the game (not on the starting defense), and their last touchdown against our backups (not on the starting defense), the starting defense really only gave up 21 points.
Rose colored glasses? Sure, but also pointing out that it wasn't as bad as it seems by just looking at stats.

Just from what I saw (one game):
This is NOT a bad ball club. OP is a little thin for a 5A school. As long as they stay healthy, they will get better. I understand that there is already a prety high profile injury, so that may change the dynamic of the team. They seem well coached, and play well as a team.

Quick question to all of the Permian fans.. normally in HS sports there is a turnover and teams go through periods were they dont have the elite talent level they normally do. Permian didnt have one of those stretches for nearly 40 years. What do you think has been the cause recently for Permian's down time?

This team, I look at as a foundation, 5 new coachs that came to Odessa barely in time to start two a days. 6 & 6 underclassmen on both sides of the ball. A jv that looked great until we brought key sophs up to the varsity. I do expect them to improve to a playoff spot this year. We will build each year until we win the D-1 state crown in 2114 if not in 2013.
ps. had a great time in Bowling Green last spring.
In Vietnam there was a radio call, Broken arrow; " Broken Arrow - Radio code for a unit about to be overrun; diverts all Tactical air to support that unit."
I think we got overrun yesterday and the tactical airsupport didn't arrive.:(

As for the past, Allman brought us back into realm of winning but then took most of his staff and left in early 09. Mayes on the other hand was handed a turn key package and made changes to it that in effect dismantled what had been built over the years, Mayes killed the program. Of all the coaches that we've had since Mayes(besides Allman), Scott Smith had the most promise in my mind, I think given a little time he could have had some success here.

Because it takes a special person to like the landscape, dust storms, mud storms, hail, black widows, and rattlesnakes. Other than that the Permian Basin is a great place to live.

Scott Smith left because he had one year left on a contract and his youngest football playing son needed two years to finish at Permian. He tried to get a one year extension added to his contract and ECISD wouldn't do it. So yes he quit to insure his son could finish his last two years at one highschool. Selfish huh!

I think Randy Mayes is much more at home these days back in the Lewisville ISD where he came up under Bill Shipman and the power running game. So much has changed in 5A football in the last 15 years that coaches had to innovate or retire. As a Head Coach, Mays was on the cusp of the pass happy "Seagraves Spread" revolution like Coach Dan Gandy in Duncanville/San Angelo and limited by rules against todays 7 on 7 summer league pre season as teams like DeSoto are now benefitting from. Not all teams are blessed with superior talent either until a Katrina like catastrophe pushes all the top Louisiana talent to a few suburban programs. Permian's time will come again.

IMO Midland Hi is or should be the district favorite. I don't see any experiments on their team as are on all other district teams. Permian with their balanced O can score on a level with Allmans teams. But Permians D is lacking, don't ask me what it's lacking, just saying basics should suffice.
Midland should win this game at Grande but Permian could win. If Midland lays the ball on the ground a couple of times or tosses the ball to a white shirt more than once, Permian will win. In the end, if it's close in quarter 4 the zebras will not let the Dawgs lose.
Permian by about 8 points.

Permian 28 Midland 26. Too many young Panther mistakes made it close but at least they now have a starting place. IMO the best win for the kids since the last Permian coach won his first district game here.

No doubt a very big Mojo win. I had mojo winning this game by 6 but 2 is good! Once again the 5-0 starts for Midland High and Midland Lee every year is so deceiving. Next week will bring another barn burner and could be a toss up. Im sure Cooper will get a dose of the same officiating we got in Midland so Im leaning toward the Panthers again :rofl:this week. I agree how you could not call a Safety when the quarterback is sacked 3 yards deep in the end zone I have no idea. The second safety I understand was forward progress on the 2 but the first safety qb was hit and sacked 2 yards deep from word go. Once again great game MOJO, I bet the fan base improves next week after such a win.:notworthy

I told ya if it was close the stripe shirts would make sure the Dawgs didn't lose. They were not about to let Permian win by a huge margin either. I also hope that if the striped shirts are giving doses that Cooper is the dose-ee.

Coopers strong point is their passing game and Permians pass d has been a major concern to this point. However something happened on the way to the district portion of this season and Permians pass d looks to be better. That, we won't know until 10:30 pm friday night. Hate to keep throwing this out there but the Defense is just the determining factor if we are in a game or not. They play great game we going to win if they make 2 offensive stops a game and we just cannot score enough to overcome the deficits . They have showed up and played amazeing ball several times this year but ive seen two games now that we didnt make more than a couple defensive stances in the whole game. I think we win 2 of the remaining games and that may just depend on a little luck.

I couldn't say about the senile lunitic calling the coach out at a booster club meeting. I suppose if it did happen, there were also those in attendence who stood up and defended all that is Permian, defensively wise. I'll also say this. If it did happen I'll bet it was one of two men. One his son played four years for Rice after playing for Permian back in the seventys. I've heard him jump more than one Permian head coach at a booster club meetings through the years. If it was him he not senile, he just remembers what excellence looks like in practice and results, something lost by most Permian fans of today. If it was him, he is a lunitic but only in the respect that he expects perfection, another lost trait amongst most Panther fans of today. He pretty much says what he has to say face to face and I doubt if he post on chat sites. His demeanor, it could be described as a lack of tact or just plain honest.
One only needs to take one glance at #31 (who is not at all a imposing figure, size wise) a skinny kid, play defensive football. Then just connect the dots.
Looking ahead, IMO we should beat Lee and OHS leaving us at 3-2, thats not a commendable thing but beats last year by three, making it a tolerable season. Lots of football playing underclassmen, a extra game or two would help.

No, its not the Rice dad. As far as I know, his kid never played varsity ball at Permian. My personal opinion is, if he is really that passionate about the deal, go to the coaches office and say it face to face. Honestly, this guy kept rambling on when everyone else had dismissed him as the old idiot that he is. And his daughter in law promptly left the meeting early and ran to her car to leave. Weird deal, and weird guy.
#31 is 6'3" 190 pounds and was clocked at 4.6 when he played at Henderson. Not imposing? I wish we had several more not imposing kids.

I thought the jest of the subject was that he did bring it up to the coach face to face and not behind his back. So where did he vent and to whom did he vent? And then, was what he said wrong?
Many females don't like confrontation reguardless of which side they support. My wife would have done the same thing, my daughters would have gritted(?) their teeth and stayed.
If you think the guy was wierd did you consider intervening and asking him face to face to approach the coach in his office, one on one with his concerns.
6'3" and 190 is skinny, not according to doctors but in football terms. Without a numbered jersey you couldn't tell him from several other Permian players. I'm just saying and IMO he's not a kick butt looking football player, but looks more like a basketball player. We have more imposing looking players on the team. Finally I'm also saying his excellence was brought to Permian from Henderson where he was taught to read, react, pick angles and tackle.

I don't understand why we're still rotating the quarter backs. 25 is clearly the better of the two. Let 20 play fullback or maybe h-back, as he looks more suited to that position. Also, I'd sure like to see us play the old 29 defense. Put 31 in the middle and let him run sideline to sideline.

John did have a tough row to hoe. He followed two coachs who had two state championships. His first three years were commendable enough but the three years before he took the job, Permians combined record was 37-2 and his first three years were 30-6-1 or 30-2-5. The biggest problem as percieved by those there was in 73 he lost to Midland, in 74 he lost to Lee and San Angelo and one more to San Angelo in 75.
Permian fans back then were of "nip it in the bud frame of mind." It's not like that today and by todays standards thats a good thing. Today, many fans defend mediocrity or less. I think people by and large to this point have been fairly tolerable, or just don't give a rat's fanny. None the less, like the football team the fans too have changed too. Neither are much pumpkin.
For any state wide readers who gleen from this post that the old crank who mentioned the defiencies of Permians D face to face with a coach in the booster club meeting, that he is old and out of touch with reality, I'll mention that he still is in firm grasp of his facilities despite one or more strokes that have him confied to a walker and slow of speech. Not on the subject but this is a condition we may all face no matter the age. Be careful how you judge it, you may be next.
But he's still old Permian and stronger in his support that I. He still makes a practice now and then and evidently a booster club meeting too. Ya'll probably should outlaw him or something. Then everone left can sit and move their heads up and down un-impeded, proividing positive reinforcement to whats up in the Permian program.:)

BS. There's a way to do things, a way to conduct your self with dignity and class. This wasn't it. Your friend may be infirm, but that doesn't give him a free pass to be an a-hole. Running as a fullback, recieving on the outside or even as a wing this kid is really talented and we need to get the ball into his hands to get into the mix of things.
The QB situation is not whats hurting mojo so far. WE STILL CANNOT SHUT DOWN A AVERAGE OFFENSE. We simply have managed to outscore some teams with some explosive offense from time to time.

I know the old guy that went off at the meeting fairly well. I gave him a ride to Abilene for a game once. I know real well a couple of guys who have coffee with him every morning. I got a call Tuesday morning from one of them, wanting to head this deal off at the pass, so to speak, to keep the old guy from embarrassing himself and his son and daughter in law, who serve on the board of the club. Because he had told them he was going to tell Gaines off in front of everyone.
The old guy had no intention of talking about anything other than Gaines. But when it came time to do the deed he waivered, and instead veered off course and rambled on about how we need new assistant coaches, never mind we got 5 new ones just 3 months ago. On Wednesday morning, the report is he did not show up for the usual early morning coffee meeting. He did show up today, but pretty much moped around. Didn't say much but what he did say generally gave everyone the impression that he regrets making an *** of himself in front of everyone. Just a sad deal. Everyone has regrets, and as infuriating as this last three seasons have been, I am happy that someone has enough nads to stand up and complain about it. Now it is sad that he did it in such a way as to embarrass himself, and stray from his agenda, but people need to stand up and voice their frustrations so as to convey the their disgust with the way things are being done.
We in effect have allowed the coaching problems to destroy the spirit, ask any of the high school kids how they feel about school pride, it is virtually non existent now.

Then do it in front of the school board after the season, when a tangible result might be possible. When the season is still going on and we're still in contention for a playoff spot is not the time to do it. The fact that he thinks he is so powerful that he can rant and rave at a booster club meeting, and the entire coaching staff will get replaced in mid-season, is foolish.

I agree with you 100%, the venue was wrong, there are ways to plead your case in a professional and non demeaning manner, when someone goes off half cocked they are more often than not ignored, and thought of as crazy.
It's their head coach and his lack of drive that is the problem. I see a bunch of kids that are trying to pull it together, and a head coach that has shown zero leadership skills, with a little direction this group of kids could be scary good, talent wise we have as good of team as anything we've fielded over the past 7 years.

I see you post this a lot, but have never read any of these posts defending mediocrity. Could you link to one of them?
Simply put, those who don't who don't speak out against "fail" and don't want others to speak out against "fail" are this. They have a stake in the program in some capacity, they may be the ones teaching the game, they are friends of those who teach the game or the have a que sera, sera demeanor. They do accept mediocrity. Knowingly or unknowingly they are enablers of more of the same. This isn't a new invention, those who oppose and speak out populate the world, even at Permian. (Ref. to Mayes, Mills and Smith.)
I don't use links. I look at those mt seats at the games both home and away. I listen to the sound of silence. Thats the way you determine fan base interest or lack there of. I look at the score board to see how the D is doing. You might put your camera in the case, turn around now and then look at the score board then take a glance at the stands. You will be suprised at whats going on out from behind the lens. That's your link!

In other words, you got nothing.
If you think real hard, you'd read your post again, and then see how what you posted actually supports the opposite of your viewpoint. On second thought no you won't, because you have proven many times in the past you are completely incapable of thought beyond the first, basic level, and would rather jump to conclusions and then argue a point that only exists in your mind.

That is not possible. Henderson is 3A and EVERYONE in Odessa KNOWS a 3A coach ain't worth spit, right?
I think hes referring to how well the Henderson Defensive team is playing this year. Giveing up very little in way of yardage and points.
Our Defensive hasnt stopped snit and hard to think we would replace Gaines with a coach that is in charge of this Defensive unit. Just my deduction.

You can ask me directly. I no longer go to meetings, I stopped last year. My problem isn't that I have accepted mediocrity. Mediocrity woudn't be fighting principals of the booster club or against less than good football . I just saw no reason to continue to go. I have gone to the games, practices in the spring, two a days and practices in the fall. I cut back on practice attendence after the Okies humbled us and since have stopped completly. I don't feel like I need answer to any one in Odessa about being a Permian fan. Theres not three people in Odessa that have seen/followed Permian longer or seen more games than I. I didn't do it for punishment, I could have stayed home and watched OHS if that was my goal. If you can't see in this, my passion for Permian theres nothing more I know to tell you.
OP can't be subjective on matters negative to Permians football team. He has cart blanc to the sidelines, dressing rooms and every thing under a coachs control. It's not a paid position but he is the guy that takes the pictures of the game and runs the Permian web sites. He must support all results and defend all negative responses from others like myself, else he be up in the stands watching along with the rest of us. But not before kicking you off of a open forum much like the yard. He has no problem allowing shelling of kids, just not a coach.
And I would never challenge a coach in a meeting such as what happened.
There, you have it from my side.

This went exactly where I wanted it to go. But first tell us, did Tanner Vestal go to Henderson? You know him, our linebacker who leads the team in tackles and got district wide notice as a sophomore starter last year? Did Clay Adams go to Henderson? You know him, the safety who leads District 3-5A in interceptions? Henderson kids? To my knowledge, they have never attended Henderson High School, or any other school coached by Dickey Meeks and his staff.
But let's get to the main point. You mention Henderson. Yes, they won state last year in 3A with a 13-2 record. Coach Dickey Meeks has been there for 5 years. Care to take a guess as to his overall record at the school before this season?
24 wins, 31 losses.
That's right. Before this season, he had exactly ZERO winning seasons at Henderson, before last year. Do you think maybe, just maybe, that is a dang good example of giving a staff a chance to get together and build a program, INSTEAD OF GOING TO A BOOSTER CLUB MEETING AND DEMANDING THEIR HEADS AFTER THREE (3) MONTHS?
As to your other babble, I won't address it all because it is ridiculous, but I'll tackle this phrase-
But not before kicking you off of a open forum much like the yard. He has no problem allowing shelling of kids, just not a coach.
Pure fantasy, as usual. You have never been banned from my message board. However, you did boycott it when I created the Panther Pit forum, which was a password-enabled private forum for fans to be able to "tell it like it is". How ironic, and hypocritical, that you have a problem with that concept, since "telling it like it is" has been the entire point of your argument here the past two days. As I recall, you were fairly active in that forum until you got upset because someone made a comment about our kicker that year, which happened to be your grandson. So you boycotted the board. Funny though, the next season, after your grandson had graduated, you begged me for the password so you could get right back on there, didn't you? Yes, you did.
Now, I did ban your good buddy phs1313, after repeated pleas- over the course of a couple of years- about calling out kids, and just stirring up crap in general. From what I can tell, you're the only person upset about it.
As to allowing people to "shell kids but not coaches", I can only reply with, what have you been drinking? Have you read the comments over there all season by people like vapordrivenfan, LeeH, Mojodan75, mojo4life, UHPanther and on and on? Have I banned any of them? Nope. Hell, I even made a comment myself about blitz packages after the Monterey game. On the other side of the coin, the only post I've seen recently that mentioned kids at all was a comment about our defensive backs after the Smithson Valley game, and a comment from someone Wednesday stating that they felt we should pick a starter at QB and stick with it, and that one particular QB was the one that should start. Shelling kids? Wrong again.
Your perception is so far off from reality it ain't even funny. But I will admit I'm laughing, because my burden of having to pretend I care about your uninformed opinions is finally lifted.

And now for the rest of the story...
Leake from Henderson, actually played the first half of the season in Shallowater, where he played both ways and was the team's leading receiver as well as a terror on defense. 6'3" 190 lbs and runs a 4.6? Gee, ya think maybe he's just a heck of an athlete, in spite of what some bozo sitting under the sign thinks he looks like? Could that be why he immediately cracked the starting lineup when he came here?
No, of course not. We're absolutely loaded at linebacker- we just don't have anyone that can coach them. Yeah, that's it.

All wrong OP, for starters you let Pipes get trashed. As I mentioned you have no business as a critic to opposing fews on your own board unless they break the written rules. You set the rules to the pit and it was my opinion that it was understood that indivual players players could not be trashed. It happened and you allowed it. I boycotted your site because of that and that only.
You can't see past any coachs fannie because you would lose your place on the sideline line plus your seat on the board. Not to mention you would lose your right to maintain the Permian web sites. Thats a plain and simple fact. My place under the sign was what I had. I don't think it would have been right for me to squeeze in between you and the staff.

Again, complete and utter BS. I was one of the few people defending Pipes during the season. The reason that became an issue at all was because some moron posted that they had seen a bunch of players at Chic Fil A in their jerseys, but Pipes wasn't in his. In this person's mind, that displayed a lack of leadership. That post was among sveral other posts on various subjects that day, and the post got buried on Page 2 of that thread. I did not see it until another poster sent me a PM about it. When I saw it I immediately deleted the post and sent a warning to that poster. It wasn't until after that incident that I created the Panther Pit, in large part because of that post. So once again your "facts" are scrambled. And you are a liar, because you did not leave until someone made a comment about the kicker after he missed a couple of extra points.
As for the other stuff, for your information I've been on the board for nine (9) years. The coaches, whoever they have been over the years, have absolutely no say in who serves on the booster club board. Further, my sideline pass is signed and issued by the athletic director Todd Vesely and nobody else. Believe it or not neither Gaines nor King at OHS have much say on those matters. And finally, I had my website for a year before I was asked to join the board. Oops, wrong again old man.
But hey, sit here and wallow in your pathetic misery all you want. I'm going to enjoy the win we just had over one of our biggest rivals.

Actually, there has been someone posting as mojo4life on the MOJO Nation board. I guess that isn't you.
Now, go ahead and tell the whole story.
The aforementioned "half-naked web dude" as you call him, went around telling people at our Media Day that I was in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission and other government agencies because as he claimed it I had stolen his internet concepts (or something, who knows). He then posted phony court documents on his website and said that I was having to go to court over the matter. Those "documents" were left up on his site for a couple of days before he took them down. Meanwhile, I had made a post on my board about it, and when someone was asking who he was, I posted the picture you're talking about, a picture that he himself had posted on MySpace. That was when you came on my board, defending him and said you didn't want to see things like that anymore. I simply made your wish come true. Still upset about it I see.

"This went exactly where I wanted it to go" It didn't go there! You want to drag it off of my defending of the old timer who shelled the coach at a booster meeting by trying to plant the thought that because I percieve Leake to be the best defenceive player on the team that I'm trashing those players who you mentioned. Using the same theory as you judge me by, but not mentioning all of the D players point out you also have favorites. In other words those not on your list are lessor players.:) Early on it was never about the blitz packages, it was about arm tackling, it was about angles, it was about feet anchored to the ground. It was about technique.
You are as some presidential press secretary. You can't think or print a negative idea on a open site. Thats obvious, Do and you lose your sideline pass and the good graces of all those who allow you to carry the Mojo Nation chat site. You can't give a objection opinion. You are a cellophane man.
Like my opinons about coachs past and present your opinions are no different. You have been a large part of drumming a person, much like yourself, out and away from Permian and over to Lee and your still kicking him. Your site refered to him as a "traitor" after the jv games last week, I think it was YOU that refered to him as a traitor it on YOUR site. How cool is that. I just called allman a quiter for gosh sakes. A Traitor! Half naked pictures? He's is as you are. He likes to do web sites and take pictures. You should consider leaveing him alone.
And yes you do lock the doors on your web site! For no other reason, as far as I've seen, as disagreements with you and specificaly those who post negative comments that pertain to the Permian staff. Consider the class of the adms. on this e site and the West Texas site. Follow their path. You are the ADM. you should act like it. It might be easier for you if you abandon the pit or re-make the rules.
What you do with MojoNation and what you do for Permian in reguard to media is unsurpassed in the state. It's commendable, it's all good. It's just your opinions that are bias.

Ive never left, however I have refrained from posting, Thanks for further info.

Little things happen, don't they? The tipped two point conversion pass to prevent a Lee game winning two point conversion. A stong relief arm coming out of the bull pen with less than four to go, coupled a couple of crutial D stops:notworthy to turn a 8 point loss into a 7 point win. Well that just reminds me of a small dab of Old(nasty word) MOJO.

As to your other babble, I won't address it all because it is ridiculous, but I'll tackle this phrase-
Pure fantasy, as usual.
Ok, so I've never been banned, so could you again tell me where the key to the web site is hidden today, I'd like to join in on the celebration. What I get is I can't get on the site.

I'll cover my own "main", One of what has now more than one, the kid from Henderson came here knowing defense. After last night I'm more than ever convinced.
Coach meeks at Henderson? I guess you need to expand to his past records to provide validity to your nonsence but I'm talking about Jordan and whoever/where-ever he was taught defensive skills, before he got to Odessa. I just say we need that coach or those coachs here. Of course you can't say that, you lose your meal ticket.
1313? In the begining If he had a problem it's was being honest and straight forward which did circumvent any display of tact. He had changed that somewhat on his last venture on to your site as woodenwatch. I don't recall him calling out any specific player, just you. His last shot at you was worth a read, providing it isn't taken out of content.
On replacing coaching staffs, It's pretty well percieved that Gaines is leaving, State Championship or not.(only a chosen few know);) Most fans assuming that a new head coach will be chosen from what is left. Believe it or not most Permian fans are not enamored with the record breaking yardage and scores against Permian as you are. So even a hint of those coachs who touch the defense today staying or becoming a head coach is a little sickining. But the circles I run in would be fine with ALL of the new coachs staying.
Simple question here. could you get a side line pass from Vesley if the present coaching staff didn't want you on the sideline? There ya go!:)
The kicker and my turning away from the Pit? First, kickers are like QBs you don't need to mention ones names in a negative post to know exactly who the kid is. Thats your signature it's what you have done in this post.
One of your buddies who I think claimed to be a poster from Gardendale clobbered the O line in his post and for good reason. They were not very good. Then he was allowed to clobbered a QB and the kicker. You didn't do a thing to that poster. There is a important connection from the O line to the QB or the kicker. To this point I was indifferent to postings pointing out specific kids. I knew both the parents of the QB and the Kicker, I saw what emotions they went through. You did nothing and I did. It's was a no class post as well as a no class protection you afforded this poster.
Odessa Permian is too small to have a Pit on a chat site. You have rules neither you or the posters follow. Players, players moms and dads, girlfriends aunts, uncles and posters at large are allowed in. All post can't be positive or you wouldn't need the pit. So negatives must and will be posted. We all are on a first name basis and people will get hurt feelings. Read this paragraph again.
Your worry now has been directed to chasing negative post by Permian fans, state wide and calling them anything other than smart or knowledgeable. One of those fans which a few years back was chosen as "best" Permian fan award winner and all because he may have hurt a coachs feelings (who by the way is paid) in front of 30 or so booster club members in a captive audience.
I sometimes feel like Robert Young in Father Knows Best but I offer you this. You really should either close your pit or allow any and everything. Follow/emulate the adms on this site or the WT site. As it is you become a paid hack in your position, simply because you can't offer a objective opinion on any disagreement. Stay away from family names on any site. Pick up your camera and do what you do best or turn it over to mb.

For someone who claims my post are no longer relevant to him, most people would think your stalking me would end. It was however one of your best ever post.
Now run along flash boy, take some snap shots but if you decide to go out on a limb and suggest to the Permian D coachs they need to "blitz, blitz, blitz" :)be sure and add that more importantly they need to teach tackle, tackle and tackle for the Abilene game. The kids, believe it or not, could multi-task.

Correct, now just tell the guy who drug it over here. Read it! It basically starts with post 325w/Mojo89 asking who would be coach next year. In post 326 I said I hoped it was a coach from Henderson. OP replied that if one was needed it might be David Jones a current assnt. head coach. Mojo89 replied he hoped David Jones wasn't connected to the Permian D and I replied I had never seen him work with the Offense. PermianFan concurred he had never seen Jones work with the Offense either. A little later I defended a old time Panther fan who had called out the Permian Head coach at the booster club. There have been many episodes over many years of booster club menbers over pointing out defiencies to head coachs at booster club meetings. It's life, it's business, it's military and even coachs berating players in front of their peers. My defense of the old timer or my suggesting we hire the/ a coach from Henderson didn't sit well with OP.
You can read from post 325 and determine who drug what from where, but it wasn't me..

From the OA-

Wilkins was 14-15 for 225 yards in the first half, and watching the replay last night he was dead-on accurate.

There is a great article in todays Odessa American concerning Jorday Leake the move in from Henderson. It specifically points out the benifit of giving a youngster a second chance. This was a move that I will forever be greatfull to the UIL for letting it happen. Of course the article covers his abilities and what he has done while here plus his importance to his peers in the scheme of Permians Defense. He deserves a serious D-1 look.

Well Mojo lets get ready for next year. We are going to have a very exciting team next year with some really good talent comeing back and moveing up! Now we need to get the town back behind this Mojo Legend.
My oppinion Mojo Backing is hurting us now. If you listen to the games on Radio you find the comentators! NO NAMES mentioned bias to OHS on multiple occasions calling Mojo OHS. Anouncer at stadium in Cross town rival OHS bias...... But the worse has to be this clown at the Odessa American. It has got to the point now it doesnt matter who Mojo plays hes got us loosing and no matter who OHS plays he has them winning. We get better Props from the Midland Paper or Abilene than we get from our own home paper. Not sure what the coaching situation is going to be yet but From Freshman teams up and returning players Odessa Permian should be very hard to stop in this district for at least 3 years. We need our town back behind us and this includes the clown at the newspaper and the hometown announcers. If we have to hire our own set just to put us back on a Pedistal! Just my oppinion so post yours dont knock mine. And yes im sorry for the clown comment just some of his reasoning is just HISTERICAL.

Absolutly not. A few light weights that 10-15 lbs of meat would help out. Probably the most offensive of any offensive Permian team to ever set foot on 42nd and Dawn.

31 years ago (December 19, 1980), a little no-name band of black clad football roughnecks from Permian ventured into Texas Stadium in Irving with absolutely NO CHANCE of defeating the Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson Yellow Jacket team that featured 17 major college prospects including Todd Dodge and Brent Duhon. Experts had tabbed TJ as a 30+ point favorite over the team from MOJO which was deemed too little and too slow. Little we were, with a defensive end named Steven Nold who weighed around 160 pounds and a quarterback Jerry Hix who weighed 132 pounds - soaking wet!
The first half proved the experts right as we trailed 19-7 in a game where they seemed to have scored far more than 19 and we could not remember how we were able to muster 7 against the talented Port Arthur squad.
At halftime Coach John AG Wilkins (= AG - "Almost God") came up with an insane idea - let Mike George, a receiver who had played NO defense in the first 15 games of the season, cover the All-American receiver Brent Duhon. What did we have to lose?? All Mike George did was become Brent Duhon underwear, sticking with the receiver like glue and absolutely shutting him down.
With about 15,000 frozen MOJO faithful swelling in their intensity as they cried "MOJO" the little big men came crawling back. We scored to make it 19-14. Then we exchanged a couple of possessions before finally pushing across another touchdown to make it 21-19 - MOJO! Our rock solid defense held - giving us the ball back with about 2 minutes to go! Could it be?? Kent Sager took a pitch out running 18 pitch and ran the ball to the sideline at about their 40 yard line and looked like he was going to be run out of bounds. But no - he cut back toward the middle of the field surprising the TJ defender and 15,000 rabid MOJO fans as he went for a clinching touchdown. Carl Rogers - on the TV coverage of the game - uttered that famous line - "We're not gonna win by two - we're gonna win by a couple!!" MOJO won 31 years ago 28-19 in one of if not the most improbable victories in our storied history.
If you were there you will never forget it! If you were not you need to find some old-timer - that's a MOJO fan who still refuses to have one stitch of RED in his wardrobe (for obvious reason - 32 years in a row - remember?) and borrow that video and watch it.
Most old-timers who have been with MOJO since it began will tell you unanimously - that was the greatest single day in MOJO history.

Excellent piece op! I would agree. Because it was a state championship game and because they were such a huge underdog. Sager only had vision in one eye. I doubt Sager weighed over 170 lbs and the fullback Phillip Crain was also a lightweight. Sagers burst off the left side, I will always remember. On the next play didn't Hix rainbow the ball into a tight ends hands for a TD?

I was on the sidelines that day and yes it is my favorite Permian moment! I was so proud of what had been accomplished by all involved. I think the only time I have been more proud at a Permian game was when my son took the field for the first time. Special moments!

Do you remember the week before when they took the field against Highland Park? Highland Park was bigger without pads than Permian was with pads. I believe thats the year John Nilands son played for the Scotties. H-U-G-E lad!

Yes the Scots were some big ole boys. I thought we might be playing SMU. The most impressive team I have ever seen without pads was the 1975 Longview team. I still have no idea how we won that game.

Friday the 13th and a black cat!:) Longview the best O in the state and Permian with the best D in the state. IMO the Longview kids let their dobbers hit the ground after three incidents that occured in the 1st half. Starting with the band. Yes the band. The Longview players stopped warmups before the game to watch Permians band march around the field. Truthfully- they really did. Early in the game, the McCoy kid(???), on a pitch or something else tried to skirt Permians left side, I don't remember who it was but one of the Permian kids, I'll venture it was a little corner back, lit him up like a over powder packed cherry bomb. It was one of those brutal hits that Permian used to lay on ya. Again the longview players focused on their running back to see if he was going to get up. He did get up but he never recovered. IMO he acted as though he didn't want the ball again. The air was let out of Longviews O football. Then before half time Permians Russel Wheatly kicked a then National record 62 yd field goal and Permian was up 3-0. Loaded with superior talent, Longview had lost their will to play.

The sound of MOJO being chanting relentlessly from across the field was fierce and creepy all at once, and haunted this PA fan for years afterward. as did the rediculously cold weather

Thanks for the link. I viewed the thing for the humpteenth time. I had forgotten how long ago Back in Black was used as a run through theme for Permian.
That game may have helped in the molding of Dodge into the type of coach he became. And thanks Mike George where ever you are.
After watching this link last night a funny thing happened on the way to the shop this AM. I stopped at the donut shop and Jerry Hix was there with his wife and kids. He seemed suprised that that game was still being kicked around. His wife commented that I had just made his day. Being a player on any team that has won the State Championship of Texas is kind of a big deal, isn't it?

He has a little brother too. Also had a kid move back after leaving for a year, to live in Georgia I believe. He was at Nimitz before. Jones said he's probably a WR prospect, 6'2". Didn't play football last year though.

We'll have an interesting (and pretty challenging) non district schedule if we're a 7 team district. Nothing official until after Thursday, but I think our Zero Week game in El Paso vs Montwood is pretty much set in stone.

Is there a former Bonham 9th grade coach helping out at Permian this spring?
odessapermian.com

JV Spring Game ended in a 12-6 win for the Black team. Justin Hall scored the winning TD.
We have another move in nobody has talked about. Kid came in a few weeks ago to Bonham. Came from Lewisville. Looks like Tommey Morris, currently playing linebacker with the JV. Coaches think he will wind up being a monster by the time he's a senior.
As for the others, I'm looking forward to 7 on 7 helping them a lot, specifically Michael King. Abilene June 16th, Frenship June 23rd, Odessa June 30th. Local league on Tuesdays in June.

Any punter worth mentioning in Odessa?
Our last punter, Brett Becker, was a rugby-style punter that just signed to play soccer at University of The Incarnate Word in San Antonio. His little brother, Barron, may be better. And he's just a sophomore. Stay tuned for more news.
