It goes with the territory. Success always attracts good athletes. I've seen it first hand. The problem is corralling the attitudes of players from other programs who were the program. I've been watching the thread on the kid whos mom works in SL. I also noticed there are no apartments in SL according to the threads. You'll start to see them pop-up by the droves just to accomodate the families who can't afford the housing in the village. This is the first sign of the end. Great athletes with "me" attitudes doom great programs. I'm going to take a wait and see approach and check back in on this five years down the road.

As of right now, with DODGE there, the ME attitude is not taken to very well in SL. Smiter, #80 this year, was on J.V. as a Jr due to his me attitude, which was fixed as you could see this year and he turned in to a great rec. I hope it cont when Dodge is gone.

it was not a me attitude that landed Smiter on the JV last year. In fact he was on both JV and varsity last year. If you do not know the whole situation do not comment on it. It was not a me attitude, it was a different attitude.

It's hard to move the whole team to JV because of attitudes. Time will tell. I know Dodge is a great coach and motivator, but in time this is something he'll have to deal with. It's a hard juggling act because one great player can ruin it for the whole program. Once that starts, it doesn't matter how many team players you have. Are there any rural kids playing for SL or do all of them reside in the city limits?

how much more success do you have to have in order to have to deal with bad attitudes?

our population is almost 100% suburban. there used to be rural cowboy types, but they have gone the way of the carbeurator. really, no more rural land in sl, unfortunately.

There actually are some apartments going up currently. They are part of the town square expansion and will be called "the brownstones". They are trying to capitalize on the idea of living within 2 minutes walking distance of town square, i think.

It has been reported many times by the Southlake posters. Southlake is landlocked, so there is not much land remaining for development and it has also been reported that Southlake will soon be 'built-out'. As far as I am aware Southlake building policy is that there will be no apartment blocks in Southlake. The "brownstones" are upscale downtown townhouses with a purchase price similar to the half acre 4,000 square foot single family homes which proliferate in Southlake. This is also the reason why there will only ever be one High School in Southlake – so the talent will never be diluted.
Finally Southlake has not become a great program since moving up to 5A. Southlake was great program in 3A and 4A.

Is there a ordinance that won't allow "maids quarters" to be built on any of these half acre lots?

Would you like to live in Southlake Bullrock? If your kid plays football well enough you can come live in my guest house. Just post his measureables and I will get back to you.:D :D
Before you come down on me, this was only a joke.

Another reason for not having a second high school is that we don't really need one. We are a moderate sized 5A district and will saimply not get much bigger, maybe 100-200 at the high school level.

we have fought this battle with actual voters, and though it was touch and go, we won. had the morons been successful, we'd be doing without the dragon emblem, from now on, as both schools would be smaller 4as now and forever.

that was one of the saddest times in the history of Southlake. I know many people that to this day that I have not spoken with because of that political debate. Thankfully the side of logic prevailed, not just for sports but for the town as a whole.

Thanks for the offer dragonfootballfan. I'll keep my little abode. Sounds like SLISD athletics have all the bases covered. Somebody did thier homework. Geat job! Is there a long term future for them though? I know a lot of you can't fathom it, but the kids in these homes will grow up and the homes will become empty nests. Where will the future teams come from?

Emtyneasters in SL, do the same thing as En’s do anywhere. Some/most will move/downsize to smaller homes/less taxes in adjacent community. (Actually, the Brownstones, mentioned above, are thought to be a destination for some of those that, don’t want to leave SL. Little smaller dwelling, maybe less taxes, no yard, etc., definaly, not cheap!)
Also, SL is still a very transient city. Lots of corporate moves in, thus moves out. Contrary to the major hype on this and other boards, high school sports is not the major reason a family head might chose to locate their family to SL. For me (in a corporate move to the Metroplex) location to DFW airport and closeness to Los Colinas, in conjunction with the reputation of the education to be had at CISD, made this place a no brainer to live. (Note; That was in 1990 and my son was in kindergarten)

The district's reputation was great and the scores were better than most other districts around. The first football game we attended was at Texas Stadium. We weren't sure which side to sit on because we didn't know what color the Dragons wore. 6 titles and 5 high school graduates later we are green through and through. 5 down, 4 to go.
Everyone that I know moved to Southlake for the schools, the community, and the location.

i brought my 5th, 7th, and ninth graders to the metroplex and joined the dragon nation for all the above reasons. we came one good play call(which would have beat sville and thus won state) from leaving 3 years later. a good coach can effect kids for the rest of their lives, and a bad one can too.

Watch it, Bull.
The SLC posters are about to ask you to plan Judson's demise again!:D
That's a pretty cool thought, though. They're landlocked, so the tenants have to move away to open up the houses for more people who have kids.
