I really would like to know why Texas is outside of the top 10. I am not asking for top 5. I just think that the defending national champion should be on top until beaten, but atleast top 10 especially after losing only three starters on offense and three on defense

Well I'd certainly put them in the Top 10 yes, but not top 5. It's not only ESPN...seen it from a lot of places. It should be interesting next year for the Horns.
I REALLY want to believe the WVU #1 rank, because I fell in love with their style of play, and I love Rich Rodriguez, but I just don't know.

When USC struggled with Fresno St. every freakin' person that works at ESPN used the "They are #1 until somebody beats them" theory.
I guess that statement only applies to the media darlings in LA.

What's funny is how ESPN basically claims that Texas was a "one man show" and nobody else on the team really meant anything.
Dont get me wrong.. Vince Young was huge reason for Texas success.. But the last time I looked there was alot of other Texas players on the team doing "GREAT" things.
I dare to say the biggest play in the Rose Bowl was M. Griffins interception basically on the goal line to end a drive.

It's the whole "West Coast" & "East Coast" media bias press.
It's another reason why the Heisman Trophy isnt in Austin this season.
Bush's big game against a sorry Fresno St team won him the Heisman because the media made him out as Christ.
PS. I still think its funny how almost all the media types were saying that if the Heisman "vote" was taken after the Bowl games. Vince Young would of easily walked away with the Heisman.
Oh Well.... I like that glass ball and the National Title:D

Calm down guys. Pre-season college football rankings just a few weeks after the last season ended are about the most pointless and futile things imaginable. The schools haven't even started Spring drills for Pete's sake. All these ******** rankings are just that... ********. They mean nothing at all and will change 1000 times just over the next two months. Trust me, if Forde, Hebie, Corso or any other suit not named May finds out that Colt and/or Jevan are coming along fine in practice, Texas will shoot up all their lists pretty damn quick.

ESPN basically took a sh*t on Texas for the month leading up to the Rose Bowl... I don't expect them to start bowing before the burnt orange alter now. Frankly, I don't expect a lot out of a ******* network that spent the month leading up to the Rose Bowl comparing USC to the top football programs of all time... before they had even played in the championship game. In other words, these guys are stupid. I could care less about getting respect from stupid people. It is far more gratifying to beat the respect out of them and embarrass the hell out of them in the process. Texas did it once just a couple of weeks ago. Texas WILL do it again. ;)

actually Oklahoma was a much nicer place because they were not feeling the affects of the dust bowl. But a little known fact was that after Teddy Lehman got drafted he left Oklahoma at that same 88mph and it got them back 150 years into the future. I don't know why anybody is surprised about ESPN's arrogance. They basically, crowned USC champions and didn't give the Horns a chance, then, in their opinion, Vince Young pulls the game of the century out of his a$$, and he leaves for the pros, so Texas will certainly fall back in the pack where they belong. Unfortunately, Texas and Mack Brown will have to prove to the press again that they aren't a one-trick-pony. Fortunately, the last poll is the only one that counts.

This great USC team that was taken to the limit about 4 times. This USC team loaded with all their Heisman winners and NFL players.
I still cant wait until this season starts. USC is going to have a very subpar year for their standards. They have to replace dang near everyone. I still think Pete Carroll isnt a class act with that those stunts he (and his team) pulled in that UCLA game.

"Respect" is the most abused word in sports these days. Why take it personally? The media always makes out the defending national champs as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oklahoma was supposedly the greatest team ever until they lost to LSU. And Miami was a prohibitive favorite against Ohio State a few years ago.
And even though UT had Blue Chippers and NFL prospects up and down their roster they would not have sniffed the National Championship without VY. But yeah they should at least be Top 10.

look at the date on that. It is december 9th. It was after the conference champonships games and before any bowl game had started. sure ESPN gave USC a lot of attention but the same could be said about the media here in Texas. Tech hardly got any coverage in teh DMN leading up to the cotton bowl and TCU's 11-1 season was hardly ever mentioned. As much as you all like to rip on the national media for kissing USC and Notre Dame's behind, the Texas media is just as guilty of giving Texas all the press in this state and that is ok by this non texas fan.

I remember many articles leading up to the rose bowl with nothing but Texas and Tech getting very minimal coverage playiung in a game in Dallas. Texas owns the media in this state and schools like Tech, TCU, A&M and others all take a back seat. There is nothing wrong with that, it just seems like the whiny orange will always find something to whine about. Face it guys, you are the best at what you do for 2005, and should be for baseball in 2006 as well, why is it such a big deal if ESPN is in love with USC?
The DMN also has more than one writer that picks the outcome of games, I dont think every writer picked against Texas, in fact Tim Calishaw picked Texas to win as I am sure their beat writer as well.

it was not the picks it was the articles that were written. Most of the writers said that Texas had no chance and were talking about how USC was the best football team ever.
USCPN was so bad that even when they tried to give equal time to both USC and Texas they made it all about USC. I remember one sportscenter they did a 5 minute report on USC and one on Texas. The one about USC was about their experience in being in the NC game last year. The one about Texas was about how all of the Texas players think that USC is great.

ESPN is always trying to stir up controversy; note the cheap shot at Virginia Tech's administration - an administration that threw its starting QB off the team and out of the university. Doesn't sound too overprotective to me. Besides that, it is not even February yet. However, as much as I dislike wvu's fans, they surely deserve a high ranking going into next season.

You do realize Tim Callishaw the most noticeable name in the DMN had Texas winning all along right? You do know that the beat writer who covers Texas had Texas winning as well? Randy Galloway had Texas winning and even predicted the right score 4 hours before game time. Just about everyone on Fox Sports SW had Texas winning.
I am sure the frustration with ESPN drives yall crazy, but why not complain about the coverage Fox Sports SW gave to Texas all along? You know it is not Fox sports Texas, they hardly ever cover LSU and OU does not get the love on that station that Texas does.
Also put Texas in USC's shoes, ESPN would have done the same exact thing, in fact Texas has a chance to be on a 30 game win streak at some point next year and possibly be at 34 when the season ends, you bet the farm that ESPN will focus all attention to Texas if that was the case.

I had no idea they did that in thsoe states, I know I have seen OU and LSU covered in Texas but not much, I know that Tech and TCU who both had great seasons did not generate the coverage that Texas did and that is fine because of the year Texas had. I avoid those states as well. I got trapped into going into them once. I did not spend much time in Louisiana, but I spent a lot of time in Oklahoma. I can say this about them, if you want any information about something other than how OU is the greatest thing ever and how Bob Stoops is the best coach ever do not turn on the television in Oklahoma. On a positive note though, they have an awesome minor league baseball stadium in OKC.
It really is a shame how TCU got overlooked this year. I think that they should have gotten a lot more press than they got. This was their first outright conference title ever. It would really help TCU's attendance numbers if they were just given a little more press. I do not read the ft worth paper that much, but it would make sense that they get more press from them. I am sort of upset how the local news stations did not talk more about the frogs too. They had the one of the most quiet 11-1 seasons in the history of college football

watch out for the indian casinos. There is no gaming commission in Oklahoma and they basically police themselves. The trip up there and back must have gotten a lot better after that construction huh? Well what I mean is that all the hamburger places suck something awful, so they have this place called Johnny's Charbroiler as a semi-fast food burger place that they think is the greatest place on earth. The problem is Johnny's Charbroiler, the first burget place I went to in OK, was the worst burger that I had had in my life. That counts the time I accidently ate a veggie burger sample at Costco. The sad thing is that people in Oklahoma do not know any better. It really is a sad situation in Oklahoma. Don't even get me started on Mexican food there. I was like "What the hell is this?... A steak finger?"

My friend from California that is fascinated with and loves Texas has a great theory about this. He says when you enter Texas everything gets a little bigger, but since everything gets bigger by the same amount you don't really notice it.
That is just a case of Delaware being Delaware. I have been there too many times and each time I am like why the hell is this a state, because you have a bridge good for you.
