For PERMIAN fans: Sherard Ray

Why on earth is Sherard Ray not playing college ball somewhere? This kid was a beast on the football field, a solid character off of it. He was a good student as well. He wasn't the biggest guy, but certainly not too small to play at the next level. I have seen kids from Permian with a lot less talent at least get scholarships to places like Tarleton State, Eastern New Mexico, etc. How is it possible no one recruited this guy? Did they just credit his success to his offensive line or what?

Look at Allen's schedule last year. They played Euless Trinity twice, as well as several other metroplex powers and their coach said Ray was the best player they faced all year. I think coach Allman let this kid down by not getting his name and highlight tapes out to as many colleges as possible. If he did that, Ray would be carrying the football somewhere this fall. Please correct me if he is, but I have seen nothing anywhere indicating where he is. :confused:

He's at Sam Houston state with Melvis Pride who was red shirted last year 'they expect big things from him once he get's acclimated.

I can't speak to how much involvement Allman had in Sherard's efforts to get a scholarship. But I do know that his dad did a great job of shopping him around. I also provided video footage for them to send out and also put on the website they set up for him. Sherard could have possibly received a scholarship from a "bigger" school had they wanted to go down to the wire, but they jumped on the Sam Houston offer when it came. They felt a smaller atmosphere was best for him, and also felt it was his best chance to play right away.

Great news. Thanks for the info. I had heard absolutely nothing about where he went. I'm a little out of the loop out here, and read the OA online regularly and never saw an article about it. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.
