Good for him. He was a hell of a back, and we surely couldnt figure out how to stop him. No back rushed for 100 yards on us for the entire season and Buckram rushed for 125, simple as that.
Antwan Cobb rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries agianst us and he is verbally committed to UT. Buckram will cause problems on the next level because he is a burner.

Ya he was a very underestimated runnning back. I think he was like 5'9" or 5'10" 160-170...He was real thin, but that 4.3 speed would burn em

Good for him. Coach Welch always finds a good fit for his players. Another plus of playing in Cove, if you have any ability at all, the coaches will find you a place at the next level. And you get a free education to boot.

ACM shut down both Cobb and Buckram. I was more impressed with Buckram. I wonder why UTEP... how was his grades?

ya i guess yall shut down buckram...any defense can shut down a RB when it takes 9 guys to even stop his momentum
but tim atchison has committed to Baylor today
congrats to him

Awesome for him. He will be a burner for sure. Coach Price found a diamond in the rough. Donald will turn some heads.
Good for Tim Atchison too. Baylor is a program working it's way up.
anyone know about Sterling Lewis? I hope he has some offers.

I saw him play in the Lufkin/ Cove game at Baylor. I don't remember him being that small. They kept him bottled up for most of the game, but he did just EXPLODE for a +50 yard td right up the middle in the second half. It's not like Lufkin didn't have any fast kids on the field and Buckram was GONE!!! I was like, "wow!" I haven't seen a run like that against LP since I started watching them 3 years ago.
It's scary to imagine Cove going down to 4A. They had a lot of good athletes.

Yeah that was a great run. I knew Buckram was fast, but when the Lufkin kids couldn't catch up, I was impressed.
He runs track but you can't put track speed and say it's football speed. Buckram has both.

Yes that kid was fast, but we only let him have that one run, caught the pack in a different coverage. He will need to put on a few pounds of muscle at the next level, those young men are hitting hard and some are just as fast. The back from Woodlands was not too bad either, gave us fits.

The kid can play. It is rare for a rb to beat Lufkin to the endzone. Leonard Hewitt had a decent angle on that play - but Leonard had a pulled groin that was keeping him at 80% or so -- he pulled up on the 15, but likely wouldn't have got him anyway.

Buckram will tear it up on the next level! One thing that people always underestimate about buckram is his power. Go and watch the film, and you will see him always drag guys that are 3 times his size for 5 extra yards. He burned both Perrish Cox and Leonard Hewitt. Probally the fastest player in the state. Size is a question, but he showed he could handle the job against some of the best players in the state. His grades are fine, it was his size that limited him to UTEP. I shouldnt say limit, UTEP has been making some noise in the national rankings and bowl scene the past two years. About Sterling, he is another player who is being overlooked. I dont think he currently has one D1 offer. He has good size, speed, and has a good head on his shoulder. Schools are making big mistakes for not recruiting him.

That is not good to hear about Sterling. He is a very good linebacker.
What about Brent Garner? Any offers?

It's said that Brent Garner has recieved offers from A&M. On the inside teammates are saying he most likely will go to A&M and play baseball, I dont know quite enough if he will play football. He also has gotten offers to join the Cincinatti Reds organization

Both Brent and Sterling went to a visit up to Abilene Christian...but Brent has Rice,Navy,Air Force, and many more but baseball will be his best bet...and as for Sterling...its been said that he verbally comitted to Texas State...thats not that bad, TS has a building program that has a good chance to go to the National Championship next year...they should have gone this year but the coach made a stupid decision!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF THE DAWGS!!

You are right cc06football. UTEP was having an awesome year til something sidetracked them into losing 3 straight games that they were favored to win. UTEP has been getting more media coverage not to mention Price has turned out his fair share of NFL talent. The Sunbowl is beautiful and the fans are rabid. Taking handoffs from Carson Palmer's brother isn't a bad way to start your freshman year.

Donald Buckram is now getting compared to former Miner rb Howard Jackson. Both appear to have similar size and speed, but it sounds like Buckram may be the stronger of the two.
Howard Jackson bio
College: Played four seasons (2001-04) with the University of Texas El Paso Miners…started 31 o 47 career games…finished his career as UTEP's all-time leader for all-purpose yards (6,153)…also finished second in rushing yards (3,466), 100-yard rushing games (14) and kickoff return yards (1,947), and tied for third in rushing touchdowns (25)…was a first team All-WAC selection each of his last two seasons.

It would be nice to see Donald put up those numbers or better. Not a bad comparison.
