I was in a Target today and saw a "classic Tecmo Arcade games" for PS2. Talk about bringing back memories. We used to have Tecmo Bowl tournies( circa 1987/1988) with about 6-7 buddies on the Nintendo NES. I mean starting Friday night and ending Saturday at noon, then we'd start another one. My Mom was starting to wonder what we were doing at my friend's house, I'd come home all red eyed and tired. She'd be asking if we were partying, I'd say no, It's just a videogame. She's thinking, ' whatever you want to call it!"
It had about 16 plays, and you could pass WAAAYY downfield off of the screen. Walter Payton was unstoppable. 49ers were loaded, and the Giants were great too. Just wondering if anyone else remembers this game.

If we would have had madden when we were kids I doubt I would have graduated HS!!!

The 'bomb' was the only play I needed...drop back about 25 yards and sling that bad boy to Willie Gault...or hand it off to "Sweetness" and it's all over.

Yeah...I remember that one. Wish I had a dollar for every game I have played.

how could anyone NOT remember this game?

SF was sweet because they were the only team with 3 passing plays

anyone else have the edition of Tecmo Bowl with Eric Dickerson on the Colts and not Albert Bentley?

I never used SF......refused to use them as my team.
And if you were about to beat me with SF I would wait
until the final seconds and hit reset.

"Down, set, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut, hut..." etc, etc...

Wasn't it also sweet that the ball was bigger than your players' torso?...that ruled.

Original Tecmo Bowl had just 4 plays on offense and your only defensive option was to try to guess the other team's play! Greatness.

Tecmo Super Bowl gave us a whopping 8 plays . That was one of the greatest games ev-er. I have no doubt that I logged more hours on that game than any game I've played since.

If you wanted to have as many as 16 plays, you had to go with John Elway Football. It was a little more advanced schematically, but it wasn't as fun as the Tecmo series.

Then Madden and Bill Walsh football came along and those were outstanding. Madden was Madden and Bill Walsh football gave way to the NCAA Football series.

At one point or another, we owned every title from the Tecmo, Madden (I never got '05 or '06), and Bill Walsh/NCAA Football series. We also got into the Sega Sports football games going back to the Dreamcast...those Virtual Concepts games are awesome. It's really too bad that Madden got the exclusive NFL license, because the NFL 2K series had surpassed Madden in my opinion.

I hope the NCAA folks get their crap together and fix the CPU sim QB stats and they've GOT to do something about the passing game engine as a whole...the last two versions made the game unplayable for me. That's why I, like jc84chill and KT, play MUCH more FIFA and Winning Eleven than NCAA Football these days.

I have played a few seasons. I converted Texas back to the wishbone with Vince at QB, Charles and Taylor at HB and Melton at Fullback. After Vince graduated I moved Quan over to QB.

KT can't ban me...I gots the keys to this here joint.

I've been crazy busy at work since I got back from vacation and plus I usually go on a bit of a hiatus after the holidays to kinda recharge. This time, I was away longer because of wedding plans coming down to the wire and I've been reading EVERY single published article about our National Championship I can get my hands/eyes on. I'm ready to be back though.

Somebody put a bootleg copy of Tecmo Bowl on the network over here since they don't allow games. I always liked the Raiders with Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen since those guys were unstoppable on the ground.

I started watching a guy play the 49ers one night and he was up 14-0 and a pretty good player. I told him they were going to throw a TD pass to Rice on the next play and sure enough Montana connected with Rice for about 86 yards. I just walked away after that and went back to posting on here looking like a genius.

I used to play Fourth and Inches on the computer all the time in the late 80's and early 90's. You had about 40 offensive plays to choose from. I always liked the games more where you had to think to win vs. being skilled with the joystick.

They also had that game with all the former Super Bowl champs where you pick a play, the computer picks a defense and you see how well it worked. I threw for almost 900 yards one time with the Jets and it was one of those games where they take off like 30 seconds for every play.

I loved Football on Odyssey2. It was a small field and there were like 7 players out there. There were only 8 plays to choose from and I used to get a lot of TD's on the hitch pass.

My all-time favorite was the hand-held football game with dots. I literally would score over 200 points in that game. I think it was the original version of the head-to-head. I didn't need to pass and just ran all the time.

I don't know about you guys, but I think the games with crappy graphics were more fun than today's games most of the time.

The funny thing is they're bringing back all the old games we used to play. I bought one of those football games at a garage sale one day, but it didn't work when I got home. I buy those Atari Joystick games from Wal-Mart, too. I if knew where I could get games, I'd buy Odyssey2 and Commodore 64 again.

I can't believe there's been no mention of 10 Yard Fight :)

I loved Play Action Football...gotta love getting a crick in your neck from playing at a 45 degree angle for an hour. That game was really sweet.

And champ, how can you mention John Elways Football and not mention the "reverse" play :)

I swear, I was going to point that exact play out, but I had to answer the phone mid-post and that train sailed.

For some reason I didnt like 10 yard fight.....I was a beast on Tecmo Bowl....Dan Marino could throw the length of the field. I heard some on mention the "Reverse" on Elway football.....was that the play that if executed the guy ran 100 times faster than everyone else?

I played Play action Football alot while I was in Korea. Why was Appalachian St. one of the trams on there? And yes you could make High school teams on there.

Lawrence Taylor was the unstoppable force on defense and young Deion ran every kick back.

Dang Lonny you are bring back memories of colecovision, odessey2 (did you have "pick axe pete", that stock market game was pretty cool also I learned a lot) and intelevision. I had fourth and inchess also was that the game where you are looking through a certain players eyes. You had to learn the receiver's routes when you were using that mode. I guess that is why I like NCAA football with all of the options you have on off and Def.

On Madden 05 I had a Cowboys Franchise going, and went 17-2, 16-3, 19-0, 19-0, 14-5 (most of team retired on me before this season), and then 19-0 again. I won a Super Bowl every year. I could never get a good QB from the draft, so I had Teste, Warner, and Ramsey. Keyshawn got a career ending injury, which was crazy because I didn't know Madden had injuries that serious. For the first few years I had Newman playing WR because of his speed, then I moved him back to CB when I traded a couple draft picks with the Steelers for Ward and Randell El.

Pick Axe Pete was the All-time greatest Odyssey2 game!:D I played that all the time. I even had the voice later on. I liked the balloon game a lot, too. I played shootout a lot and I used to use Djibouti a lot in the word game. I liked the stock market game and actually had all 3 of the games that came in bigger boxes because they were strategy games.

I never did own Intellivision, but I had a lot of fun playing the basketball game where you got a certain amount of money to buy your team.

I never did have Colecovision, either. I started out with Pong before I got Odyssey2.

How about the 'bama TD when the receiver went to one knee to catch the ball, got up and ran it 76 yards for a TD?

I agree they let the Tide drive down the field to get that FG.
