The University of Texas is poised to smash Michigan's annual record for collegiate licensing royalties after the Longhorns' 41-38 upset of Southern California in the Rose Bowl.
The simple, classic Longhorns trademark could become the Nike swoosh of the college world, retail experts say. Retail sales of Texas merchandise almost tripled to $12 million for the year-to-date period ending Jan. 15, reports Neil Schwartz, the director of SportScanINFO, a market research firm.

I've thrown in my share. I'd throw in even more if they had a big and tall place where I could get some Longhorns stuff.

I think im going to go drink some beer, this topic just reminded me of how the two most recognizable symbols in all of sports are the God awful ny yankee logo followed by the longhorn, or maybe its the longhorn followed by the yankee logo. Yeah I think this is a excuse to start drinking early. (im actually going to a ray wylie hubbard concert so that is why im really starting to drink, but dont tell anyone)

Tell Ray I said "What's up?" and drink one for me.
I'm still on the wagon until Feb. 5th.
I have only drank beer twice since Thanksgiving...not bad...considering it's me we are talking about.

i don't believe the ole Bevo silhouette is more popular than the blue star of Cowboys' fame.
One thing about Texas, we wear alot of crap with our team's logo on it!

I thought about that too. You can go anywhere in America and see people wearing Cowboys gear. Hard to imagine people in Indiana buying UT gear.

Rupert on David Letterman wears a Longhorn shirt quite frequently.

Its out there, I have seen it all over hte place from DC to Wilmington, Delaware up to Boston and even in Athens, Ga. People love the texas logo and shirts and hats are seen everywhere with it on. I would say that I have seen just as much Texas stuff outside of this state as I have Cowboys.

I've also seen him wearing some KU and Nebraska gear too. Probably gets them cheap from bootleggers up in NYC.

I do and so does most of my family. I know of atleast one other family that is like this in Southlake. It is my favorite football player's family. D08 knows who my favorite football player is. The kid is an animal.

You would be surprised. You see a ton of Longhorn stuff in New York. In fact, I believe the NYC chapter of Texas Exes is one of the largest around. That city is loaded with Horn fans. It seems like you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Longhorn grad or a Michigan grad.
From coast to coast, the Longhorn silhouette is one of the most recognizable figures in all of sport. I think that is thanks in large part to the amazing numbers of Texas grads there are spread all across the country, but also because of the simplicity of the logo and the fact that it hasn't changed in decades. People grew up with that logo and then passed it down to their kids and so on.

I have friends in Manhattan, Kansas, home of K-State. They see tons of Longhorn stuff there. Hats, beanies, hoodies, tshirts, etc. It's all over the place.
450,000 living alumni
50,000 current students
=500,000 people directly connected to The University, not including their families. Say each person spends $100, which is a good median. That's $4,000,000 right there in royalties (UT gets $0.08 per dollar).
In that same time frame that UT has made $12 million, USC made $1.2 million. They're not nationwide like Texas is, and they were the "greatest team of all time."

yeah, ive got a cousin in nowheresville, vermont who wears ut stuff. that right there shows how popular longhorn clothing is. or it might be a ton of people jumping on the bandwagon.

The people in Kansas have been seeing Texas gear for a couple years now (since I've known them). So it's not bandwagon. But I'm sure there will be plenty of them as well.
A guy I sat next to on my flight from LA to PHX after the game was going to get a Texas pullover. He's from LA and his mom came home with a USC pullover as the game ended, and he told her to take it back and get a Texas one.
LA is the biggest bandwagon town in the world.

My better half gave me the NC hat for my birthday. I also requested the Horn salt/pepper shakers and matching napking rings but was turned down.

I read somewhere that the Longhorn logo was voted the most recognizable logo in college sports, but in foreign countries, the Longhorn logo is a no-brainer as the #1, just like the Cowboys Lone Star logo. Seems that foreigners really like the whole Texas ideal and the whole cowboy thing and the movies that introduced them to us, and the Cowboys and Longhorns are the natural things that foreigners relate to Texas, and ultimately, the U.S. as a whole.

If you think about the most recognizable logos and uniforms in sports, you'll notice that they are all simple in design and they haven't changed over the years. Look at the Cowboy's simple star and uniform that hasn't really changed in a long, long time. Same can be said the New York Yankees and their simple interlocked "NY" and pinstripes. Texas is the same way with the simple burnt orange Longhorn on the white helmet. It's recognizable world wide because it is simple and hasn't changed in decades.

By the same token, Penn State uniform is simple, and they look like a Junior High team

Penn State has the best uniforms in college football and they are very recognizable... their logo is not which is probably why Penn State gear isn't quite as recognizable as others.
