I was just wondering how many of you out there have actually solved a rubix cube. I remember trying to solve it as a child but never solved it until HS. In all those times never was I as fast as these guys.

I solved one once.
Took the stickers off....and then put them back in order.
Nobody was watching...so it counts.

You can solve one without taking the stickers off too.
Just pop each square off (carefully) and then place them back in
order (carefully)
I stress the word carefully...because I broke my cousin's trying to cheat that way.

My mother, now 76, 15 or so years ago could consistently solve the rubics cube in less than a minute. My kids were always amazed (and so was I). I kept trying to understand if she had some kind of trick or routine and could never figure out why she was so accomplished at it. On a related note, she was also good at crossword puzzles and anything that involved seeing shapes and sizes. Remember those posters / prints that had picture of something else built in that you could only see if you stared at it for several minutes ... I am one that could never see those. My mother, on the other hand, could see them in 5 seconds. Go figure!

There is a trick to doing it. You have to get one side perfect and then there is a sequence that will solve it every time. I used to be extremely fast at it, but I have since forgotten the pattern.

I learned a strategy in college from a prof. I had.
There is a sequence you can buy property in...and you will
become Mr. Unbeatable at Monopoly.

I got a buddy here at UT that can tear it apart for us like some kind of freakshow.
I hear it's one of those talents that your mind either understands naturally, or it doesn't. You can't really teach that stuff they say.

speaking of old games, I was in WallyWorld the other day and saw a Coleco Head-to-head Football Game. We played that thing for hours when we were kids. We used to play to see who would do dishes or go cut fire wood or whatever, and my older brothers actually honored the bet when I beat em.
Used to play Risk all of the time too. But If I started winning there would be a giant earthquake( they would shake the board and all of the pieces would go everywhere!) We laugh about it now, but man I used to cry when they did it.

I used to be able to get on e side but I would be so proud I would always stop there. And it I would always try to make it that bright orange side. But I can see those image pictures with no problem.

I never solved it as a kid and the best I ever did was get 2 sides at one time. I used to take it apart and put it back together solved, though.

I was always more of a "Simon" man myself.
Countless hours hypnotized by those beeps and flashes.
I got pretty good at that one. But I would throw it across
the room when I screwed up and had to start over.

I don't remember which side it's on since I haven't done it in over 20 years, but you have to pop the center square on the bottom row off and work from there.

That's right...there is one square that looks a bit different than the rest. Once you get it to pop out...you are good to go.

aggy would probably take the stickers off...and then try to put them back on...with the "sticky" part on the outside.
