that clothes do make the man. it took g davis 3 years to figure out that the best oc job in the world is recruiting vy and then getting out of his way. once they determined to do that they have been unstoppable. i bet he doesn't look so smart next year.

But you would think that one of the highest scoring offenses of all time would get the coordinator some publicity.

I'll give Davis a lot of credit for what he has done because he has done something that too few coaches do. Instead of trying to force the kids into his offense, he built an offense around his players. That's something you will NEVER see in the NFL and rarely see in college football.

What Texas does offensively, is very unique. Davis almost created the offense himself to fit the talent he had. I think that is why you saw so many coaching staffs from big programs (Penn State, Oregon, Northwestern, etc.) spending part of their Summer learning this offense from Davis and his staff.

I have watched Texas faithfully over the last 5 years. I endured the frustration of the horrible play calling and the way Davis seemed to clam up in the big games (see Washington State '03). However, I have noticed over the past two seasons that Davis has completely changed. I understand that a QB like Vince can make any OC look good, but it goes way beyond that. The plays Davis has called this year have been nothing short of outstanding. All you have to do is watch the BlowU game to understand how good it really was.

One thing all Texas fans have realized and I think the rest of the world is starting to wake up to is the fact that this is not the same coaching staff that we saw just a couple of years ago. Mack Brown and Greg Davis are nothing like what they were and it's thanks, in large part, to Vince. That is why I'm comfortable with Vince leaving and excited about the future. Vince opened the coaches minds to a brand of football and a way of playing the game that they had never been exposed to before. I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

i know old dogs can sometimes learn new tricks, but why would you automatically assume davis has seen the light? this wasn't his first rodeo. i've been wrong before, but i expect a sharp dropoff in his iq very soon. it doesn't take a huge amount of coaching skill to take the reins off your thoroughbred and let him race.

Will be very very interesting to see where VY ends up. He's projected to go 2, 3 or 4. Norm Chow, former oc at USC is oc at Tennesee - which picks 3. They may trade up to get Leinart away from NO who picks 2, or they may go with VY and let Norm work with him. Great fit for VY - you get McNair as mentor and Chow as oc - and a good hc in fisher.

Vince doesn't change the plays at the line of scrimmage or call the plays himself. Davis is the one that calls the plays and I guess you would have to have watch the play calling over the last several years to really understand how he has changed. Now, some of what Vince did was improvised (see the game winning TD against USC), but Davis' gameplans have been outstanding this year. I first noticed it in the BlowU game when Davis finally solved Stoops' corner blitzes. From that point on, I knew there was a different GD sitting up in the booth and that Texas would be alright.
