Well Copperas Cove looks as if they are heading down to 4A....Can they contend? In my opinion yes...They will have to answer the same questions as last year with "can the oline do it" Yes they can....They return some key players like Rashad Hawk at WR, DT Craig Wood, RB Jerad Milsap, DB Joseph Leary just to name a few...They will have a qaurterback with great potential in Robert Griffin, he has the chance to be the best qb ever at Cove..He has a heck of an arm, and has unbelievable speed which will make him a dual threat even more than Brent Garner was. It will be interesting to see who Cove gets matched up with in district...What is everyone's opinion??

Coach Welch will find a way to reload rather than rebuild. They said Cove wouldn't be anything after Duff left..and we know how that went..... 10-0 without him the year after. We will bein good shape.

Ya I remember that...11-1 with a lost to TWHS at the Alamodome. Everyone thought that would be the only time we would make the playoffs again. Now look....This team will contend in 4A

probably be the best thing for them not to be rude i really didn't cove would get much exposure in 5a next year, but in 4a they have a better chance to shine with waco until they come back to 5a or the town grow's alil more 5a isn't for cove but every once in a while cove will have a team that's just good enough to show it's name out there

05 the weakest team ever..... if that 05 was the weakest team ever wow cove has to really redefine alot, and i said 4a would be good for cove so that can make them self's a perinal power, and as for play off wise don't you usually get blasted as soon as a good team comes up.

You made it sound like Cove didn't even belong in 5A....Don't say that to us, go preach it to the El Paso schools

1. C Cove was legitimately among the elite teams in the state last year. There can be no denying that.
2. The difference in 5A and 4A football is not that big - the biggest difference in depth, and that is a problem more for middle range and smaller
4A programs. A top level 4A program can usually play straight up with a 5A.
3. C Cove will likely be a team to watch in 4A. I am sort of sorry to see them drop down. I'd like the Owls to get another shot at them...

I don't think there is a big difference between 4A and 5A. To say a school would have an advantage because they dropped down to 4A would be a little strange. The reason they dropped down to 4A is because the school size changed. Sure the football team doesn't change. Unless I'm mistaken though the ball is the same size in 4A, the field is the same size, both sides play with 11 players at a time so Cove would have no advantage having played in a larger division.
Judging by the amount of players that move from 4A to college football I don't think the skill level is drastically different.
Cove will do alright if dropped to 4A, they'll do just as good if they stay in 5A. Anyone that's seen Cove play over the years knows that Cove has never really had depth. Numerous players through the years have played both ways. Cove isn't going to drop to 4A and instantly be any more of a juggernaut than they would've been in 5A, which is to say, they won't be a juggernaut. I'm sure either 4A champion this year could beat a majority of the 5A playoff teams, including Cove, on any given day.
There is no shame in dropping to 4A, there is also no real advantage either.
Unless Cove drops to 6-man, football is football.

I think its more of a pride thing, wanting to stay with the "big boys." But Cove will excell at whatever level they play in. The programs set up. I predict we'll be back up in 5a in the next realignment. Cove lost a lot of people due to increased military housing being built on Ft. Hood. Cove draws a considerable number of its population from the military at nearby Ft. Hood. And with them, Waco, Belton and Killeen setting up the heart of a Centex 4a district that would be as tough as any in the state. The winner of that district can look to make a deep run into the 4a playoffs next year.

i dont know about that there are alot of tough teams in 4a denton ryans is one of them now la marque ennis. It is a pride thing though if your in 5a your automatically considerd in the best possible rankings of texas for some reasson, i can see cove establishing them self's now alot more than 5a cove most likely now be a quater region or semi finalist imo even possibly a state finalist

You're right. It is a pride thing. If we went with ability, then a team like Temple should drop down to 4a or maybe even 3a. They haven't been any good in the last ten years or so.
Cove will be ok. They made a break through run in the playoffs and hopefully they can carry that over to next season, whereever they play.

That ACM/CC battle last year was epic. Hardest hitting HS football game I've ever seen and I've seen a ton of them.
 I'm going to miss not having a rematch in 13-5A next year.

ACM Dad,
Ditto. You may get to see the rematch, just not in District Play if we go 4A as everyone expects will happen. I know that the ACM game was one we all would like to repeat, for us with similar results :) !
Cove will be fine wherever we land. And if we land in 4A, you can bet we will be watching the Tigers with all the enthusiasm we did this year on your playoff run.
Its all those Waco Lions I will be worrying about next year. Did you take note of the size of those guys?

Waco and Cove is starting become a real big rivarly. I love the Waco-Cove game. You are guaranteed a great game, especially these last few years. I believe we have Waco at Home this year, if we play them. That will help to our advantage. The Dawgs record at Home is very good. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's been a while since we lost in Cove.

Hasn't been too long....I think 2003, the Class of '04 lost to AMC on that fumble on the goal line to win the game....So we've reeled off 10 straight and 13 of 15 cuz we lost to temple 20-19 that same year then after that it would be 18 of 20

from what ive seen in the mornings in the drills...Logan Brock the tight end from last year was at QB...but is that because Robert Griffin is in Basketball UIL or what? Logan has played QB every year be4 last year...he has a great arm...but not that much speed. He is really accurate. and maybe with Rashad out there with his height advantage we could pass a lil more!

There will be a battle for the QB position next year. Griffith is not a "shoe-in", Logan Brock will vye for the position and recieve a lot of encouragement from Cove backers. Unless Griffith learns to take a hit with the fortitude that requires to get back up and play ball, I don't see him at QB. He would be better at reciever position. He could be a great QB but he does not like to get hit, and I think he would have a low completion/high interception rate because of that. He might not even want to catch. His heart is in basketball. At least that's the way I see it. It wouldn't hurt to have a good sophmore QB for the later run. And IF Cove ends up in 4A, they will be tough. Cove will not play Waco in a non-district game either. Just my humble opinion. My biggest heartbrake is that if we drop down, no chance of playing Lufkin. I just love that teams program and would like to play them again. Go Dawgs!

What you saw was a sophmore QB gettin put into one of the biggest games in Cove history for his 1st snaps....Experience will help him alot...Logan Brock is gonna be needed up front for the bulldawgs

I hope we get someone at QB and i have not been impressed with Griffin at all when he has been in the games. In fact, he down right scares me. He appears to be affraid to take a hit, like was stated in other posts, he does not get the ball from center cleanly very often and when he throws the ball, you can be sure it will be 30 yards over the receivers head.
If he can not settle down, we need to bring up a freshman or sophmore and get the offense going.
4A and 5A are pretty close to the same in the better schools as far as competition goes. I would rather stay 5A but heck i don't care what district or level we are in i just want to see some DAWGS football.

Logan Brock will be a beast at QB! Mark it down. One of the best in the state next year! To the one who says he doesnt have a lot of speed, his speed has increased dramaticly since he played QB on JV. He was jus a young kid who couldnt control his big ol body. He has one of the strongest arms I have seen. Stronger than both Brent and Welch. I cant wait to see him running wild on defenses and trucking whoever gets in his way. The kid will not stop growing he is up to a legit 6'4 now, and hasent stoped yet. Personally I believe his position in college will be tight end, LB, or QB but that is because he is just so aggresive. I believe that Robert has pretty much all the talent in the world, and in practice he would be lights out, but another year of maybe being more of a team player and earning the teams trust would help him out a lot. The team will follow Brock to were ever he takes them, and I jus cant say the same about Robert right now. I agree with the other cove fan that they do need him at TE, but it just wouldnt make since for arguably the best all around player to play TE. They need him at QB! I just hope his recruiting isnt screwed up by this move.

So he's looking as if he's gonna be the QB...That's good cuz Griffin DOES need experience....I dont think him makin the move to QB will effect his recruiting...There are numerous players that get moved to QB their Sr year and when they get to college theyre back where they started....Finally some size at QB for Cove!!!!!

I am not worried about how we will do regardless of 4A or 5A. Cove has talent and the coaches do a good job of putting it together. Do not be surprised to see some Freshman or Sophmore at some point at the helm for the DAWGS in 2006. The past few years we have done well bringing up the QB's to lead the team for 3 years etc. so i am sure the coaches will have the best and the next best at back up for the 2006 season. I think they need to put Griffin at receiver since he is so fast but he has to learn to take a hit and hold on to the ball. He could be a play maker if he would toughen up and hold the ball better. I don't care who plays where as long as we field a good team and do the best that they can do, win or lose, although i pefer to win.
Only time will tell and who knows, we may still be in 5A come this season.

No it is Logan Brock! Logan Brock is the starting QB. His brother Tanner will be the starting MLB and is currently only a freshman! Logan is the better QB, at this point than his brother. Tanner is another name that everyone needs to look out for. If he doesnt start at QB next year he will continue to be a beast at LB. Not only will Logan be the starting QB he will be the be on the of the best in Texas!
