Gone are the following seniors who were extremely valuable starters...
QB Matt Leinart
FB David Kirtman
TE Dominique Byrd
OG Taitusi Lutui
DE Frostee Rucker
DT LaJuan Ramsey
CB Justin Wyatt
S Scott Ware
On top of all those losses, USC has had 5 juniors so far declare for the NFL draft...
RB Reggie Bush
RB LenDale White
OT Winston Justice
OG Fred Matua
S Darnell Bing
That's 13 starters that were the heart and soul of that team that now have to be replaced.

USC fans need to focus on their team, instead of Texas. They are talking all kinds of mess on forums, saying we won't repeat blah blah blah..yadda yadda yadda. They need to take a look at themselves and see their team is half gone lol.

That's funny USC is losing their entire backfield and they think they'll just reload? Hmmm - I think Leinart, Bush and White made Carroll look like a genius.

Losing VY was huge for the Horns, but we're in a much better position than the Trojans. Yes, they've brought in a boatload of talent the last few years, but it will take them a while to gel. They'll be top 10 team, just not in the hunt next year. I can see them lose 2, perhaps 3 games next season.
The Horns, on the other hand, are poised to make a serious run at a repeat. Biggest question obviously is QB. But we're pretty stout everywhere else.

The really even more sad fact is with all that "TALENT" that USC had. They still had several close calls and one "L". Just think how its going to be now that they've lost half their team and 75% of their top line talent.
I also think USC losses probably 3 games next season.
Texas should field a pretty solid team and make another run for a Big-12 title. The QB (needs to get up to speed) and just manage the games. Whoever it ends up being (McCoy, Snead) will still have to make some plays but overall just manage and run a very poteent offense and just not make huge "killer" mistakes.
I'm really excited at what I see for the next 5 seasons at Texas. It should be fun.:D I see Texas over the next 5 seasons making a couple of more serious runs for more National Titles.:D

USC aint going anywhere. The talent they have stocpiled in LA right now is sick. They have two quality QB's in Booty and Sanchez. This year there is no way they lose three games. They have a favorable home schedule and by the time ND comes to LA, USC will have found their identity. Losing guys like Lineart, Bush and White are irreplaceable, however Pete Carroll has done a magnificant job in luring in the nations top prospects. The same reason to be excited about Texas over the next 5 years a USC fan could easily say the same thing. They have quietly put together another top 5 class this year.

This year they will not be able to rely on experienced offensive talent or Norm Chow. The offense will be particularly interesting to watch.

We'll see... I dont see USC having the same caliber team as they've had the last 3 to 4 years. They have tons of talent to replace and I dont care how many "STARS" a kid had by his name coming out of high school. They still have to step up. I dont see USC having that many young kids stepping up and playing Top #10 caliber football.
Booty hasnt impressed me much on some of his limited time and Sanchez is an untested talent (although high regarded coming out of HS). I see USC next season finishing up about #15-#20 range. They just have to much talent to replace on both sides of the ball.
Dont forget that those other teams on USC schedule have some pretty solid talent also and those boys are own football scholarship,,, plus USC just being USC is going to make the a big target for everyone (just like Texas always is).

But is there anyone in the Pac-10 who will contend with them? Next year will show the Pac-10 for what it is. USC could very well go 9 - 0 in conference play. I'm unsure of who they play in non-conference, except a home game against Notre Dame which will be a tough one. With a very easy schedule, look for USC to go 9 - 10 wins, and be heavily overrated by the media (whats new?)

It's going to be really strange watching the Longhorns next year without Vince in there.
It will just look funny for a little while...but it will all work out.
I felt the same way when Ricky left.
I won't feel nearly as comfortable when they fall behind by 2TD's though.
I can honestly say...that after the Ohio St. game...I was not nervous again at any point during the season.
Not even when they were down by 12 to USC with 6 minutes left. I really felt like the offense would show up........and Superman would take over.
I was right.

Well you say Texas over the next 5 years is going to be exciting to watch, but say the USC players are going to have to step up? I guess your not using the same logic for Texas as you are for USC are ya?
There is no way they finish in the 15-20 range. They dont have to go to Berkley, Eugene or Tempe and they get Nebraska and ND at home. The year USC won the AP national title (2003) they started out ranked #8, over the course of the last few years we have seen that anyone not ranked in the top 3 in the pre season it is very difficult for them to win a national title. USC might have lost some names in White, Bush, Leinart, Justice, Bing and others but that is why you recruit on the level they do, they wont be hurting for talent.

Texas returns a lot more players than USC does. Texas returns by my count which may be off, 62 touchdowns. Last year only 5 teams even scored 62 touchdowns in their season

Im not talking about next year with Texas and its recruting, I was asking Frog how he can say he is excited about watching Texas over the next 5 years but say he doesnt care how many stars are beside a name, players at USC are goingto have to develop?
In 2003 USC did not return many TD's outside of Mike Williams, they were just fine then and will be just fine now. Booty got to spend 2 years with Norm Chow and both Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisan both proved to be able to handle the offense this year and will only get better with time.

Gotta go with FF on this one. Although I'm sure Texas WILL be an exciting team to watch, you can't sit by and count USC out, especially being in the Pac-10. In another year with some experience they'll be scary again. By the same token, I hope that goes for Texas (assuming Snead and McCoy develop like I'm hoping).

Ya.. I say it's going to be exciting watching Texas over the next 5 years because I'm a Texas fan (born and raised) so I root for them like I have all my life.
As far as USC goes... I think they lost "WAY TO MUCH" top line talent. They are going to have like 13 players probably drafted by the NFL and have lost many starters that were multi-year starters. Again... I'll say USC finishes about #17-#20 next year. In fact I predict that USC next year will be this years OKLAHOMA. A team loaded with alot of Prep All-American talent , but has to get it all jelling on the same page with real game time experience that cannot be simulated in practice. So again.... I predict USC to finish about #17-#20 range next season. They will lose about 3 games.
Texas... they have about 14 starters coming back next season and about 8 other players that received alot of playing time. IF the new QB (McCoy or Snead) can come in and manage the game. Texas can have a very solid season. By the way.. I"m not saying Texas will win the National Title next season. In fact I would be surprised if they do with a brand new young QB. But, I do think Texas finishes ahead of USC next season.
Like I said... USC next season is this years Oklahoma team... WATCH !!:D

and you know this because he has palyed in so many college football games right? or you saw him as a junior in HS and judged from something that happend 4 years ago. The same could be said about the QB's coming into Texas. All Booty did was tear up the competition at Evangel and was rated as the top QB in America as a junior. Whoever starts at USC will have tons of talent around them. There is no way they finish ranked outside of the top 10.

the only way that I see them finishing outside of the top ten is either having three or more losses with one being in a bowl, or losing their last two games. These polls are fickle and hard to read. I think it is safe to say that USC will not be the greatest team in the history of football this year.

I think that is a safe bet to make.
USC has stocked piled some majore recruits, this year they had the opportunity to red shirt many of those players, they also return 6 on defense with some quality depth at defensive tackle and some studs getting ready to play at the DB posistion. They still have Smith and Jarret at the WO to go along with Patrick Turner and a few more RS and true frosh getting ready to step up. USC has a favorable schedule that does not include trips to Berkley, Eugene, Seattle, Tempe or Southbend and by the time ND comes to LA this offense will be clicking.

I got to see Booty a couple of times at Evangel and didnt think he was better than Brock Berlin (who turned out to me average) in college. ECA offense is more wide-open then Southlake Carroll's and can make a "so so" High school QB look like an All-American.
Next.. I've seen Booty in a couple of mop-up duty moments this season and didnt think he had much poise in the USC offense. Maybe more practice time is going to help but I dont think he's anywhere near Leinhart or Palmer's ability when it comes to throwing the football.
Maybe we'll see this season but again I wont be surprised to see the Sanchez kid beat Booty out for the starting spot. It should be close because Booty has more time on campus. But, I think it's a 50-50 toss-up right now on who starts the most games next season for USC.
As far as USC team. Again, time will tell but I think they lost to much starting "bigtime" experience. You seem to think that all you have to do is replace alot of these "MULTI-Year" starters with 5-Star and 4-Star blue-chip recruits but it's not that easy.
Again.. I predict USC will lose probably 3 games this coming season and be the 2006 version of the 2005 Oklahoma team.
Those other Pac-10 teams have alot of pretty salty , experienced kids that are also on football scholarship that will have USC as target #1 and be giving them 100% every Saturday.

In a lot of cases blue chips kids have stepped up to the table without any experience and done just fine, Ricky did it at Texas, Peterson at OU, Clarett at tOSU, Charles at Texas, Ginn at tOSU, and the list goes on. If USC had not recruited the way they did then I would agree with a lot of what you said, but in the case of USC they have had nothing but 5 star recruits step on campus and filled right in, In 2003 you saw it with Leinart, Bush and White and I have to believe when you have the talent they have been getting on campus the last 3 years that they will have guys step up to the plate.
It's the same reason you are excited about watching Texas over the next 5 years, their recruting has been great and you cant wait to watch those kids get their chance to show what they are made of, well its the same at SC, those kids will be ready for anything thrown at them.

Texas has alot more coming back then USC does... Texas has like 13 starters coming back and about 8 more players that received alot of playing time this season.
USC has about 9 starters back.... USC is going to have a totally new backfield RB, FB and QB along with several new OL-man.
** both teams will have a new QB **
USC offense needs a very solid QB that can make bigtime plays--- Texas will need a QB to just manage the game and limit mistakes. There is a difference.
USC has alot of inexperience coming in... Ya, they all have alot of (STARS) by their names. But, still young and inexperienced for live game time.
I still strongly feel USC will be the Oklahoma of this past season. A team loaded with alot of blue-chip studs but has to break in a new QB and new OL-man on top of all that. USC has to replace a few stud defensive players.
Just comparing Texas to USC for next year. I just think Texas has alot more in the basket coming back and some experienced back-ups and USC has alot of youth. I predict USC to probably be about #17th next season when its all said and done.

What do you think about Ohio St or Oklahoma next season ? I think Ohio St lost to much on defense (LB's and DB's).
Oklahoma silently scares me for next season. They have alot coming back and the youth grew up this season. Looks like their only weakness may be O-line.

O-Line will once again become the weakness of OU. I think they lose 4 from this years O-Line. I think the Texas defense will be to much for OU to generate any type of offense against. Like you said if Texas can find a QB who can manage the game then they should be fine. I think even without Young Texas is still a major threat to repeat.
As far as tOSU, they lose like 3 from their O-line and 9 from their defense. Texas shut Ginn down last year and I believe they do the same this year. The overall speed that Texas has on defense is just to much for any team to overcome. I think with the game being in Austin is huge, it will allow a new QB to not have to face a hostile environment and will be enough to get them a victory. The skill posistions at Texas is flat out scary as is this O-line. Keeping Studdard and the center was huge. I think tOSU will win the big 10 next year but I dont think they will have enough to be able to win in Austin. You just dont replace a Bobby Carpenter or AJ Hawk, but one thing Tressell and Ohio State has been able to do is get some studs at LB. Next year is going to be exciting, Im no Texas fan but even my dislike for them can not say they lose to much when losing Young.
I really believe that WVU is going to be a major threat next year, I know their conference is weak, but what they did to Georgia in the sugar bowl which was a home game for the Dawgs was nothing short of impressive.

Wow.. I agree with just about everything you said. I looked at Ohio St defense and they are losing (9 starters). That's alot to replace on defense.
I watched some of the Fiesta Bowl and it really looked like Ohio St wants to use Ginn like USC used Reggie Bush. Maybe not so much as a RB out of the backfield but they did put him back there a few times for option type of plays.
I bet next year they try to get Ginn the ball about 20-25 times a game (punts, runs, catches, KR). He is one huge threat whenever his on the field.
But, you just dont replace 9 defensive starters. Especially of those caliber.
Oklahoma still scares me even with basically a totally new O-line. Bomar, Peterson and the young WR core seemed to grow those last few games and start to jell. Spring football might move them up another notch.
I wont be surprised to see Notre Dame playing in the National title next season. They return alot of talent and skill (QB, RB) and have a very good coach in Coach Weis.
I think West VA. also will be a silent killer next season. They do lose about 10 starters but they have some good youth with a returning QB and RB.
