IMO.... Speed, speed, speed. As much as I have seen in several years. The offense was clicking very well and it is obvious there has been much off season work. Second year of the spread now and it seems more natural for them.
The D is as usual: mean spirited attitude, ready to HIT! New kids look ready to play now. This D will likely be the best the Owls offense will face during the regular season.
Negative: small in the line on both sides, but looked like there is some depth of kids ready to play.
Summary: The attitude is going to be different from last years excitement. This year it will be a more workman, "get the job done, lets get better every week"
Na.... dont expect much, the Owls will be lucky to be in the POs;) ( at least the third round again);)
WE WILL WIN

Do you think a scrimmage against Carrollton Newman Smith (4A) will be a good gauge of the talent that Garland obviously has?

I'm glad to hear Garland can play football, let's hope they spell better than you!;) Unless, "ist" is a Garland thing??

Admins can fix that with a simple PM!

I know it's just a scrimmage and I've heard that Garland has alot of good players, but I've also seen Newman Smith. Hope ya'll get a good workout. I didn't mean to offend. Good luck on your season!

Yep, aint it though! Gonna be fun to watch, im thinking. why not put together a game between old Abilene and old Garland. At a neutral site like Mesquite Memorial.

then again we did pretty well at Texas Stadium, so that would be a more interesting venue

One of the people close to the program says the O line size is just fine, and they are happy with the D line for the most part....
So what do I know... still think the Owls look good this year:cool:

Has anyone seen the commercial for Garland football on TV here in the metroplex? The lady is talking about Garland, etc.....but then they end it with a preview of a South Garland vs The Colony? Does that game even exist? I couldn't find it on any SG or TC schedule? Maybe I missed it.

I just thought it was funny that they are talking about Garland, but then end with a South Garland vs The Colony preview? Maybe they shouldn't have a woman talking sports on the news. ;)

My take on this:

Garland does not deserve their ranking.

We will be lucky to make the playoffs.

The boys must think of themselves as underdogs every game.

Ignore Garland.....as Lt. Drebbin said in "Naked Gun" in the gasoline-tanker-truck-crashing-into-the-fireworks-warehouse-scene, "Nothing to see here......disperse.....nothing to see here...."

:D

BTW, Abilene would outdraw Garland at any venue because, let's face it, what is there to do in Abilene anyway? :D

Let's try this again...for the 3rd time...

It's a good thread when talking about football and it's prime candidate for the delete button when not.

Stop the poster on poster crime and stay on topic.

Back to Garland football...

Good
First game is Kimball at Sprague in two weeks. The excitement will be that the game is at Sprague. The most security I have seen at a game. They have GREAT BB QUE cooked on open pit... if it is the same as it was when we played Carter at Sprague a few years back. The game will be a good work out for the passers and wide recievers test some young players on defense.
Then the fun starts: Duncanville, then Lake Highlands the next two Thursday nights at Williams.... those games will answere some questions IMO.

Then we go way out west somewhere the next Friday night.

There are a bunch of Kimball kids who are related to Garland kids, so from what I hear, the trash talking has been furious since before the Spring Game, just like last year....here's hoping for a similar result in the actual game...;)

Here's my question... since expectations are high this year, if we dont come through the non-district schedule unblemished (as we did last year), will it be considered a sub par non district season? Lake Highlands and Duncanville will both be better this year, and GHS squeaked by both last year - Abilene Cooper will be good again this year, and we have to travel to Abilene...

I just hope that everyone doesn't get down on them if they drop a game to one of these teams...

I just hope they come out injury free...and see what happens in the district race...A 1-3 non district record would be a concern:o

I just hope:

1. They don't have any major injuries in non-district.

2. They play hard.

3. They make the playoffs, regardless of the record.

4. They hit the playoffs on a roll....finish the season strong.

Talent should take over in the playoffs, if the talent has some heart.
