Im sure majority of us will be doing some travelling so when we come to your town what are some places we should hit up for some good food!

in temple id say any of the Taqueria's most are just off the high way decent and afordable, willing to pay alot of money for some high class food head down town molly's pigneties chieves which also are all near the high school, there is also a nice Chinese resturaunt with a nice bar down west adams which is off the high way. if you go down the loop also near the high way you can catch another chinese food resturant and alot of other nice grills.

So i hope i get some replies from places i'll be heading.

ps any one from austin can you tell me how to get to the other baja fresh beside the one on the drag.

In Southlake go to:

Po Melvin's (Dragon fans unofficial pit stop)- down home food, lots of it, very cold beers - inexpensive
Annamia's - moderate priced, good mexican food

evreyone is of course welcome at mel's, but expect to hear very little else except dragon faithful speiling redundantly and on and on about nothing but dragon athletics, esp after a game. as the po go on, come witness goofy moms dancing and singing like kids. there is no other like it to the dragon faithful. another local place or 2 is the cafe italia on northwest highway in g-vine. it's byob and so very reasonable overall. and very very good too. the main street blues room on main and dallas in g-vine has pricey foods and drinks, but some killer blues. it's disconcerting to see swizzles decorating plates of haute cuisine in a blues bar, but the music is not second rate either. catch a lady from houston named dyunna greenleaf and you'll be astounded.

It's at the intersection of MoPac and Hwy 71, in front of the Target. But why waste a trip for a chain restaurant. Go to Maudie's, El Arroyo, or Tres Amigos. All much better and Tex-Mex, not Cal-Mex.

In Abilene, I would suggest 3-4 places:
Harold's: Big A-High fan. The team eats there on Thursdays.
Joe Allen's: Best steak/ribs you've ever eaten.
Sharon Allen's: Joe Allen's former wife's place. As good as, if not better than, Joe Allen's.
Alfredo's: Gooooooooood Mexican food.

Stop off of I-20 at the nearest bridge going over a Creek. That's Creeeeek not Crick (like up North) and bring a fishing pole. They have some good Catfish in them there muddy waters.

PS. Watch out for the Sharks though.. they're mean there with sharp teeth.

ok, this isnt a restaurant, but whats more fun than tailgating? On Leno the other night, I saw a man from like georgia or something making some of the worlds unhealthiest but good sounding foods.

The first is a kispy kreme burger:
1/2 burger, with all tehe fixings you like, with a grilled krispy kreme donut bun-900 calories and 65 grams of fat

the last is something i dont know the name of, but sounds good:
a large hot dog, wrapped in a 1/2 pound burger, which is then deep fried until the burger is cooked through. The man-dog (a name i came up with) is then placed on the only thing that doesnt seem too unhealthy, a bun or roll of any sort. then hot chili is poured on top, floowoed by grilled onions and jalepenos, if you like them. 1600 calories, 100 grams of fat.

sounds good dont it?

yet again, people on here arent looking for chain joints (i assume) they're looking for some local places that are exclusive to the area...

in Deep Ellum in Dallas, there is a place called the angry dog or dawg (im pretty sure) that has one of the best chili dogs in the area.

if you're looking for more upscale, i have to reccomend terelli's (get italchos with tomato and hamburger for an appetizer and the chicked terelli for the meal, you wont regret it)

Campisi's is a good "egyptian" place (funny it seems to be italian to me), their pizzas are fantabulous. also, one of the best house salads in the area that ive had (and im a teenager=i dont like salad)

Most of those are in Dallas, but garland has a few good places

central park cafe-NY style place
dos banderos in downtown-good mexican, so ive heard
and for breakfast-hubbard's

I don't think I've ever heard "Crick" in my life...Sorry, people from NYC and it's suburbs don't say anything like people from the country...And "Crick" is country, my friend.

So is fishing. You want fish?? Hit the Fulton Fish Market.

I'm glad you can give a great post since you've been to every town in Texas and the rest of the country 100 times because you've seen more football games than anyone. Thanks for your useless input as usual.

I'm sorry.. I forgot that in New York is called a STREAM. One place I havent been is Fulton ( and dont plan on going there either). I catch my own fish so I dont need a fish market.

Hey, travel South on 59 out of Marshall. Go approx 5.6 miles until you see the Green barn on the left. Take a right going down this gravel road until you see a Green Mail box on the left. Take the left over the cattle guard (that this little medal bridge thing to keep cattle in the pasture) and go to the little log cabin house. Knock on the door and ask for Bubba. He cooks really good scrambled eggs but (BYOB). Bring some for Bubba to.

Would that be your house??

Fulton Fish Market is in NYC, big guy. I figured an American traveler like yourself would know this. I think they even talk about in every movie that is set in NYC.

Although, there is a Fulton NY, they are up near Syracuse in Cow Country. The Fulton Red Raiders made it to the class A (thats the second highest class in NY) state final in 2000, lost 36-20 to the Nyack Indians. They started the season 0-3, reeled off 9 straight wins, got to the state final, but then lost.

I've been to NY City a few times. Usually traveling through it on I-95 going to Newport. R.I. Never have been to Fulton and cant say its high on my list either. I have been to almost every State (except a couple) and I've also been to about approx 25 countries in 5 different Continents. But, when you've spent almost 9 years in the Military you tend to travel sometimes.

That's not my house,, but its my cousins so watch out !!!

If you're in Marshall ,,, I suggest you go North on (59) to the little town of Jefferson. It's an old historical Texas town that has a couple of neat restuarants. There is one there called (I think) Uncle Joe or something like that and they cook a great Texas chicken Fried Steak. That's 100% legit.

Also... do you know what (BYOB) means ?? Just wondering.

Sherriff I have spent half of my life in the new york area and half in Texas. If you want to know the best restaurant in Ausitn go to the Salt Lick. You can look it up on google and get directions. It is kind of expensive for barbeque at 15 a person for all you can eat, but I can honestly say that it is the best barbeque that I have eaten. If you are looking for a little taste of home there is nothing compared to a greek diner or a jewish deli in Austin that I have found so far, but there is a place sixth street called Katz's deli. It is as close as it comes to a New York deli that I have found in all of Texas.

Hey Wideman...

Thank you for answering the question seriously and not being like other people.

My Grandmother was from San Augustine,TX...as country as it gets.
She always pronounced it "crick"...Like son "we'll jump that crick when we
get to it" So I think "crick" is a Southern thing more than a Northern thing.

And Sherriff...I figured I had better say something with some substance soon...else I might develop a reputation for not adding any value to the board.

I got it wrong anyway.. "Creeeeeek" , "Crick" although I think "Crink" is more of a Deep South thing and "Creeek" is more Texas.

But, in New York and New England it a "stream."

I think Northerner's only got to Creek when a town was named "blank-creek" or when Dawson's Creek started lol.

We have stream or brook.

BYOB...We do drink up here, and we do have parties...Bring your own beer is fairly common.

these are both on timberland dr.

in killeen we have all the usual chains on hwy 190 but hendersons family restaurant on 10th street between rancier and bus.190 (veterans memorial) is good decent food for a REALLY decent price. you can order breakfast or regular food anytime they are open (6am to 10pm). yes, you can get better food at other places but hendersons is still very tasty! and the prices are cheap!
china star on hwy.190 is best chinese food.
we also have a lot of korean food here in killeen. i like the ones on 8th and rancier, and between the motels on bus.190 by 10th st.
