1) how much time is left in the game?
2) Are we winning or losing and by how much?
3) What is our strength? Running or passing?
4) Is our kicking game good?
5) Does our defense suck?
6) Am I feeling "froggy"?

Exactly lots of factors involved-in a regional final less than Two minutes left down by six you...can't trust the spot!:Music

I figured it would be a one score game either way. But I'd still do different things in different situations.

Up by 3 with under 2 mins to go... I punt
Down by 3 with under 2 to go, I go for it.

Up by 3 with over 2 mins to go, I probably go for it if I don't have a punting game. With a punting game, I probably punt.

Down by 3 with over 2 mins to go, I punt. Depends on how many time outs are left as well.

To make a statement.....perhaps. But if the offense is tired we'll give you a long field instead.ok. how about what you would do in the 1st 3 qtrs in a 3 pt or less game either way?

FAKE PUNT! ;):D

Sorry, couldn't resist my Trojan friends...

If I am under, and if it is <2 minutes in the game, and if my offense has shown it can move against them, and/or my defense has had trouble holding them I go for it.

If I am under, and if it is <3 minutes in the game, and my defense has shown it can hold them, and/or my offense has had trouble against them I punt and try to work the field position angle. Also need some timeouts. Also need a good punter.

Offense gets tired in the course of one possession? They'll sit soon enough after they score.

I go for it everytime in the 1st 3 quarters.

You never said it was the first possession....... that backfire of going for it everytime will result in points the other way or highly increase the chances of it.

If up, punt and let the defense take care of things.

If down, give me "Roll Right" off a double-TE set, a FB to stay in the box and block the blind side. First option- Rightside TE, 2nd option WR, 3rd option, run for it if everyone's covered.

Allen went for it in their on territory down by 7 in the championship. The first time we ran the option. Then a couple more times in the 4th trying to run out the clock we ran a couple of passes. This was all set up earlier in the game when the QB dropped back and quick kicked. I think the element of suprise was the key for the latter attempts. I think the risk/reward factor has a lot to do with not how well your offense is doing but how your defense is playing.

If you are Allen playing against Stony Point in the semi-finals:

Allen's ball
late in the 4th quarter
down by 4
ball around mid field
4th and 4

Then you wait on Stony Point to jump off sides :( :Censor:

No not first possession. Just never heard that an offense would be that tired that they'd want to put the D on the field. I'd have my offense on the field 80% or more of the time every game if at all possible.

offense will get worn out just like the D will given long enough

Yeah but I would think that it would be a nice problem to have if your defense can't get on the field. Never played the game so you guys are probably more qualified to answer the thread question. Grew up with the two way stuff so it was not an issue.

I am going for it trust my O to get it and Trust my D to stop them. and most Highschool FG kickers are not that good anyway so I take my chances most of the time

Our team... Up by anything even the slimmest of margins... I punt... Our defense never allowed a team to score more than 2 TDs and a field goal over four quarters and never gives up the big play... But if its Katy or some dominant team like that I think I would weigh going for it heavily

That's the reason I'd go for it. Show faith in my entire team. Trust the O to get the yds needed and trust the D to defend half the field if O can't get it done.

Punt is a four letter word for a reason! I always go for it. Then I have confidence in my defense. Great opportunity for a momentum shift.

Bingo. Very few H.S. kickers are good from the 30 yard line, and out(47 yards or more). Hell, not many NFL kickers are good from the 30, and out, and the ones that are, play in domes, or are the best NFL kickers in the game.
