Most of us are familiar with the big name players, but who are the newcombers to your team that will have a significant impact.
Longview:
Strong Safety Jarvis Pippins(5'10'' 170 4.4) - not exactly a newcomber but has been moved to strong safety where he will shut the open field down. Watch for this guy to have alot of INTs. And when he does you can pretty much put 6 on the board....noone will be able to catch him.
WR - Chris Robinson(6'4'') - Just decided to play football and is expected to replace Malcolm Kelly. Big shoes to fill but he is big and fast, if he has hands he will be a much needed addition to the Lview pass game.
Corner - Laderrick Satterwhite(5'10'' 180) Vondrell Mcgee's cousin. It will be his first year to play HS footaball. Very athletic, very fast and plays Bball at Longview and has a great vertical. Expected to fill one of our CB positions.

MLB - Justin Padron
This kid was a beast on special teams, and is one of the hardest hitters i've seen. He's going to be a Junior and will fill the MLB role, since Benoist will be moved to OLB. I don't have any stats on his size, but the kid is huge.

cb is one of the more difficult positions to play, and as a rookie, he may have some growing pains, esp against some of the better passing teams and savve receivers in the state. his athletic ability and speed certainly are a plus, but sometimes can work against you, esp if the receiver gets him turned around and running the wrong direction, at which time he'll be getting further out of position, faster. you have to start somewhere and the 7on7 fields is the best place to make those mistakes and learn a few lessons.

the biggest impact players for lufkin?? huh?? they have many but the biggest?? i would say mandela roberts, aj penson, l hewitt on defense and d bryant, r thomas, and ej shankle on offense. qb claybon could definitely be one from what i hear but he i have not seen live yet so i do not know. everybody knows about m roberts and l hewitt on lufkin's defense but trust me on jr aj penson. i think he is going to be a superstar. a lot of people think r taylor is lufkin's best dlineman but i disagree even though taylor is very good. aj is the next mckinner dixon in my opinion if he works hard. the talent and the body is there that is for sure. do not forget, i was talking about mckinner dixon long before any i can remember and then his senior year he gets all of his deserved recognition finally so i am making the same prediction on aj penson. ;)

I must agree that Penson is going to be a player to reckon with. Shankle, Hewitt, Roberts, Bryant,Taylor.Lufkin is young this year on offense, but the defense will be as strong as ever, with there hard hitting and speed.East Texas will be as always, people having to deal with the likes of Lufkin, Longview, and the state champs Tyler Lee. :D

Hey, did you make it out to the Green/White game?
Boy some of those new JV kids are quick! I was worried about next year after hearing all the rumors but after that green and white game I definately think we'll be much better than people see us being.

I hated to miss it, but I was cramming for the CPA exam. I have heard that the JV last year was good but they could never put it together as a team. I went to a freshman game last year and saw some young guys that looked pretty good. We will lose a ton of starters after this year, but maybe the coaches will play alot of the younger guys to get them some experience.

The Freshman (the team I called the new JV teams since they technically are) team from last year..has the speed
I think we might have another Vondrell McGee on our hands. QB looks like he has a great arm and we have a few good recievers. I definately think Coach King can get these guys together.
The JV last year wasnt bad...we just didnt have an offense. Literally

Colleyville Heritage
Joey Williams not exactly a new comer but he quadruple plays as a Defensive End, OLB, Corner against the taller recievers and safety sometimes
Breece Johnson-Tall very skinny, not as fast as Renfro but can make the incredible catches just the same and with the passing offense from collyeville getting better and better expect big things.
Cameron Holbrook-played defensive lineman and linebacker for the jv team last year, great speed for a big guy, strong as can be, and crazy like no other.
Evan Walker-Fast, real fast, great hands, great route running, just an overall good reciever who will make the catch when they need it, add him with Donald Markley, Johnson, and Kevin Greene, and expect big numbers from Ponder and the rest of the offense this year.

Garland
FB:Donta Sloan (in Wing-T FB gets the most carries, big brusing guy with tons of speed and strength.)
DT:Brandon Antwine(6'2 260 runs a 4.6!!! already has commited to USC...this guy can play.)
DB:John Murphy(tons of speed and can hit like none other. Don't run a post to the middle with this guy waiting for you.)
RB/DB:Devin McDowell(runs a 4.3...this guy can flat out FLY!)
QB:Tim Crosby(returning starter at QB in an offense that promises to throw the ball well this year. We have the athletes to do it, hopefully we can get it done.)

Josh McKinley, where ever he lines up whether it be at QB, WR, or FS (where he will start most likely)
Curenski Gilleylend where ever he lines up. the 15-5a version of Ted Ginn. If im not mistaken he finished 2nd in the 100 meters last year as a sophomore and he lost to a senior from McNeil that is a track legend in our district that everybody knew would win the event.
Blake Gideon- coach gideons son. He is a fast one, and will line up at reciever or corner as a sophomore.
Yomi- was injuried all of last year but will be a key to our defense next year. A big key.

i think this lufkin defense could potentially be the best ever out of lufkin because of the pure talent and speed and that is saying a lot considering the 03 defense had 5 players sign div1a scholarships. this defense could be better though. not only are they very talented but lufkin is finally going to use the right defensive scheme with the type of players they have. i have been yelling for this the last 3 years at least. they are going to drop the zone and stay behind your man always stuff and only rushing 4 stuff. they are coming at you in a big way. the slc games had something to do with this even though they did have 3 sacks last year but that was all mckinner. blitzing, stunts you name it and they are going to play almost 100 percent man to man. this kind of defense fits their personel better then the other scheme in my opinion. if any defense can afford to take chances this lufkin defense can. they have the athletes and the speed to do it. they have been extremely successful playing defense the old way but imagine how they will be now when they can be completely aggressive with nothing holding them back. i was so happy when i listened to the interview on lufkinpanthersports that they are going to this defense. you can listen to the interview with quick at that site and it is on the home page. check it out!! hey vb did you see any of the 7 on 7?? i watched lufkin beat ftbend marshall the other day and i thought l hewitt was out there. this kid looks like him and seems to play like him. i said you got to be kidding me this was not hewitt. it is chris brown, a guy that transferred back to lufkin. lufkin could have 3 lockdown corner types in hewitt, brown, and landry and a very good safety in jamie harris. oh and the receivers are without a doubt the most talented i have seen at lufkin ever!! dez must be 6'4 now and thad 6'3. shankle, raines, and maybe the best reciever of them all is r thomas who is an unbelievable athlete. claybon looks very good!! hard to read a lot from 7 on 7 though. i am very excited about this team as you can tell!!

LeanderLions...you did a nice job on naming some Leander impact players but what about the rest of 15-5A....I do think that they will be a pretty solid district again and several teams in the district do have some good players....
