The Astros just scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to sweep the Cardinals 4-3 and move within 1 game of first place.

The Astros would be 4th place and 5+ games out in the AL West, FWIW. Meanwhile, the Rangers would be leading the NL Central.

This is like OMG saying the Dragons shouldn't have snapped under center. "would be + could be + should be = but it ain't" and Wild Card Teams shouldn't go to the Super Bowl

Was at Monday's game, is it me or does it seem to be a neutral field for the Cards?

We were in section 252, 4th row middle! Great seats, but I saw and heard more Card fans than 'Stros fans. Was glad we bounced back in the bottom of the 5th, the guy behind me was starting to get on my nerves! He didn't say much after Lee homered and his group left early!!:notworthy

You're developing a bad habit of leaving your team's games early.

You can't ride my bicycle anymore.

That's a fact, Jack. The AL is far superior to the NL especially this season. Whatever NL team wins the pennant is just fodder for the eventual AL champ and eventual World Series Champ.

I do remember in the mid 70's when the Houston Oilers missed the playoffs by one game.

AFC Central

Pittsburg 12-2 Div winner
Cincinatti 11-3 Wildcard
Houston 10-4 Sit at home

Same season the Cowboys win their Div with a 9-5 record.

These things happen.

I would play the "weaker division card" against the Rangers, but I don't believe that...:D

Bottom line is that the "Lastros" were living up to that name earlier in the season. Cecil Cooper was a mouse's whisker away from being canned, and the team was showing very little gumption or moxy. Add on to that the Cardinals have been Houston's nemesis for a while, and this series is something the franchise has been needing for some time now.

It's not a pennant or a World Series, but just being in contention right now is only a bit short of a miracle.

The TEAM is showing some heart right now. Split with LA and now sweep the Cards! A little breather for this weekend then it's the Cards in SL again. But, the Stros are playing some good ball right now.:notworthy

are any of you really surprised by the Astros uprising? they usually do this after the All Star break and then get hot towards the end of the season and make a playoff run once in a while.

go Astros !!! ... while it lasts.

It's fun but I still don't think they have the pitching to sustain a big run. So, I will enjoy the ride and maybe they will prove me wrong and make the playoffs.

Go 'stors!! i think i would be awesome if they win the division, to prove the sports guys wrong. cubs win it all, then the cards, then the brewers, and then the astros. thats what espn predicted at the begining of the year. i think the astros should win to shove it up espn's :Censor:

Astros beat Mets last night in the opener. Mike Hampton goes yard. Half of the Met's team are out due to injuries. First pitch this afternoon at 5:30p.
