View Full Version : Toughest Pre-Season Test

Since it is way too early to be talking state championship games lets be more realistic....
What pre-season match-up(s) is your team most looking forward to and are going to prepare the kids best for district?

My team being Cedar Hill we open up first game against rivals DeSoto on ESPN and our 3rd game vs. Trinity. DeSoto will be tough just because they are our most heated rivalry and their talented beyond belief! The boys are gonna have to be on their toes right out of the gate. I am looking even more anxiously at the Trinity game for two reasons; 1) While Trinity will be "down" based upon their graduates...they are still TRINITY and I wonder how "down" they'll be? 2) By playing DeSoto first game we should have the 'deer in the headlights' phase over and be somewhat battle tested for Trinity, if we don't play up to our level against Trinity then that worries me for district...

How about your team? any must sees?

I just hope we survive Longview. They could probably make a good run in 5A. So to open up with a team that is talented, at home, and has revenge on their side, makes for a worthy opponent.

Cedar Park has a pretty tough schedule, but I don't think it matches Cedar Hill. We play:

Game 1 Westlake, always a state power
Game 2 Lache Seastrunk, oh I mean Temple. :notworthy
Game 3 Lake Travis, two time 4A state champs and 32-0 last two seasons or something rediculous like that. :notworthy

Yes, that will prepare us for district I think.

Our pre-season doesn't get any tougher than this...

Bingham - Sept. 7th (Cowboys Stadium)
Cedar Hill - Sept. 12th (Pennington Field)
Allen - Sept. 18th (Pennington Field)

We are technically "home" for all 3 games, but I think a lot of Trojan fans will be thankful if we even go 2-1.

Trinity has a monstrous preseason.
Three games in 12 days against formidable opponents - Bingham, Cedar Hill, and Allen. Our Trojans are going to have to grow up fast and gel on both offense and defense.
Bingham - lost to Alta in the state championship.
Cedar Hill - made to to the Quarterfinals
Allen - 5A Div I State Champions

I really have no idea at this point. I saw alot of promising things in the spring game, but until you put the total package together on the field and see how it works, I have no idea. I think many of the pieces may be there, but it comes down to how serious is this group of kids this year and how (or if) they come together. Could be anywhere from 0-3 to 2-1. Bryan is always big and fast and gives Falls a tough time. Westfield is "considered" to be down a little this year, but, they are still Westfield. North Shore I think will be just too big, fast and experienced, but it will be the 3rd game. Maybe the offense can get the passing game going by that game and make enough quick strikes to keep up with them. Of course the KO "game" is a scrimmage and does not count into the record.

Very tough schedule with a very young team. My guess is that we may take our lumps early, but this will be a pretty good team by the time play-offs roll around. Lineweaver has a way of using those early season games to put the right kids in the right places for when the games matter. 48 days until kick-off....then we'll see.

I like that slate of games.

Mavs have Westlake (scrimmage), A&M Consolidated, Belton, and Bryan. Would really like to see McNeil matchup with Copperas Cove for a couple of years. These two teams were district foes for a few years. Consol and Bryan should be good tests, with Brayn likely to be the tougher of the two. Don't know much about Belton, except that Mavs are 3-0 against them and only one game has even been close.

Funny, Hebron has a better Defense than last year and Rex didn't score 52 pts. Hebron has some questions on Offense but No way Plano scores 52. Also think Hebron swept Wylie at all sub levels. And now no Nikta who was a one man wrecking crew. I think these two games are going to be big and very close. Hebron does have alot of young kids.....The future is going to be Great!

I was being sarcastic.

That's probably going to be one of the harder games to call this preseason. Both teams are really young. Plano had a questionable defense last year, but will have a significantly better defense this year. Hebron has a bunch of really talented players, but their youth will probably be a problem this season. Same can be said for Plano. We'll see.

I agree! My son is a Soph and their class is pretty good. I know the kids are heart broken because Wylie knocked them out, then played for the Championship. The kids think they are just a game away from returning to the show but we all know the odds of that. I think next year could be a year like last year. It will take a couple of games to get the right people in the right place.

8/29 @ Katy (Rhodes)
9/4 Eisenhower (GPISD)
9/12 Cy Falls (GPISD)
9/18 @ La Marque (Ethridge)
9/26 Southlake Carroll (Corsicana)

Katy's first 5 is no walk in the park either
North Shore.....nuff said
Woodlands.....Drubbed Katy by 47 last season
Bellevue.....the unknown factor, but they are proven winners

That's a very good point. However, that was a very special class of kids, 15 of whom went on to sign to play college ball. I'm not sure yet what we have with this group, but it's probably not fair to compare them to the 2007 team which was one of those "once in a blue moon" groups.

The title of the thread was TOUGHEST pre-season test. Plano's toughest pre-season test is clearly Desoto since the Eagles have a ton of returning talent, and the Wildcats play them during Week one. Hebron will be good, as always, but probably not as tough early on as Desoto.

For Bowie, it'll be Round Rock. They're always a tough team and usually make some noise in the playoffs. Solidly coached team with some talent. We beat them in their house last year 37-21. We get them at home this year. Should be a fun one. They own Bowie head to head all-time pretty handily. Gotta try and start swinging that back toward .500.

Vista Ridge upset us last year in Week 0. We get them at home this season. Hopefully we don't let them sneak up on us again. But they have some serious athletes coming back.

Hays Consolidated is a solid 4A team, but we blew them out badly last year. We have to go to Hays this year though. Small town teams with small town refs is always interesting.

Katy will be lucky to go 2-3 against the first 5!

GPNS - Houston powerhouse riding a huge winning streak into the game and having confidence after last year's dominating second half performance, plus they have more talent than Katy. L

The Woodlands - Many think this will be a turn around blowout game for Katy, but many forget that the Woods runs a spread O which Katy hasn't fared too well against in recent years...ie 2008! L

Bellevue, WA - 6 of 8 state titles in the last 8 years and they have a reputatution of taking down OOS opponents. 50/50

FMM - First and only "road" game for Katy. Hopkins anyone? L

BWB - Always loaded with talent, but did lose an awesome back in Michael!! W
