Now that i have your attention, he was named QB coach at Rice. It would be kind of poetic if he someday replaced the man that did him wrong. Almost enough to make me a 'horns fan:p

Todd Dodge will take the Texas Job, before Applewhite. That would be cool to have 2 former QB's from Texas coaching together Applewhite either Off. Coor. or QB coach and Dodge at the helm or Off. Coor. Good Post.

I appears that Rice Football has cleaned house, and are starting over. Does this mean they are getting serious about winning at Rice?

My dad played at Rice in the 50's. I can't tell you how happy he'd be in his grave if Rice made some sort of a comeback. It was such a big time program back then.

I think Rice is serious about making Doctors and such...

I remember the Trevor Cobb/ Bert Emmanuel/ Larry Izzo days of putting a competitive team on the field, and Applewhite is a class act, but I think their best days are behind them on the football field, IMHO

According to today's Houston Chronicle, Westfield's Pierre Beasley just commited to Rice. Right now he's helping his basketball team remain undefeated and #4 in the country...Go Mustangs...Go Owls!

Joel Armstrong always shows flashes of brilliance, only for it to be cut short by a horrible offensive plan. Kind of like the Reggie McNeal thing. That coaching and offensive system shortchanges him.

I've always liked Armstrong. I got to watch him a couple of times at Longview and thought he was great. I'm not sure that he's the caliber of passer like McNeal but he might be a better runner.

I read a report that Rice is probably going to move him to WR.

As a guy who has watched him play since he was in 7th grade, I think it is a misconception that he cannot pass. Look at the systems he's been in since 9th grade. He just hasn't had anything show his passing ability. The best example of a great throw from Joel was in the Spring playoff game a few years ago when on the first play he dropped back and bombed a perfect pass to the receiver for over 60 yards.

I hope they'll reconsider moving him to WR. He's a QB, he's not used to taking hard shots like a receiver would. Just give Applewhite a chance to hone his skills. But then again, I would trust Applewhite over annnnyone, and if he thinks that Joel would be better suited at a different position, so be it.

Ya.. I guess Armstrong has never really been in a system that relied on him throwing much. So, it's kind of a question mark I guess.

Like you said.. I'm sure Applewhite will evaulate the players and put them in the positions where they can best help the team.

Rice moved another QB-Bert Emanuel that was alot like Armstrong (size, speed & quickness) and he went on to about 5 pretty good NFL seasons as a WR.

I think Rice recruited a kid out of San Antonio last year (Chase Clement) that is suppose to be a pretty solid passer.
