I know I am new to this site but I have been reading this forum for awhile now.
I just turned on the TV and it showed Vince Young declaring for the NFL.
I know Wide is going to be upset about this. He thought he would come back and play for Texas.
Vince Young will be a legend.

The news broke early this morning so I think most Texas fans have come to grips with it. It's tough to lose a guy like that early, but you can't help but be happy for the guy.

Yeah I heard he was going to declare but I don't believe the news all the time. Look what happened to the miner's story.
When I saw that they broke into live coverage, that is when I believed it.
Does anyone know if he was crying? He looked like he let his teammates down, and it didn't look like he was that happy to announce.

It's my opinion that he'd have been pretty stupid to come back for his Sr. year. He'll neve be worth more than he is now. He has nowhere to go but down if he went back to UT.
I think it'd be cool to get that last year of carefree college life, but there are way too many risks in Vince's case for doing that.
Oh, and the rest of the Big 12 says Thanks!

He better hope he's not drafted by the Aint's. That team from the Big Easy is notorious for stifling the careers of young promising talent. Maybe if they move to another city and change their mascot name and uniforms they might get some football respect. And, I say this in regard to a pre-Hurricane Katrina era.

In his news conference he did say that he was going to finish his degree,.So, technically he will be staying in college.

You sure didn't hear a "whine." Perhaps that sound you heard was really a sigh of relief coming from collie station. 99% of Texas fans not only understand Vince's decision, but are happy with it. Sure, we would love to have him around another year, but Vince has done so much for The University of Texas that he deserves what he has earned.
BTW, Vince said he "planned" to return... plans change when circumstances change. Only a complete idiot fails to realize that.

I totally agree with you, we as fans cannot be selfish. He delivered us a national title....Let him go make millions. We will still be a good team next year. Great, I do not know. I'd rather have 1 national title and ten years of what if's than what A&M has now.

He is the same king he was yesterday !!! I'm proud of Vince Young and only hope that he can go on to a very productive NFL career.
He has done so much for the Univ-Tx and Texas in general. I've never seen so much Texas mania in all my life and a huge part of that is the doing of Vince Young. He has propelled the program into the upper echlon levels now that I honestly feel Texas will be sustained for many years because of what V. Young has done for the program.
Two Rose Bowl wins, National Title and numerous other things to boot. Thanks Vincent Young... it was a pleasure seeing you play a couple of times at Madison and it's been a thrill watching you take Texas to another level.
Good luck in the NFL !!!:D

We got alot coming back to Texas. Plus, Ohio State is losing some pretty solid "studs" also. Like their whole LB's core, some Wr's and a few other players.
But, whenever you starting the season with a new untested QB there is some several huge questions..

What most non-Longhorn fans don't realize is that we have viewed Vince in this light for a couple of years now... he's always been a king. It's only now that everybody else has caught on to what most Texas fans have known since Vince first took the field in 2003.

Colt McCoy, a RS Freshman is the only qb on scholarship right now...he's never taken a snap for the horns. Snead and Harris are coming in. It's a complete toss up. With Jamaal, Ramonce, Sevlin, Limas, Billy, Quan, Tweedie, and 2 OL all returning, they should be able to settle the new qb in nicely.

A little overly-optimistic there ktcarl - no way Houston gets the first 2 picks. Guru Mel now says Bush to Houston; Leinart to NO and Vince goes 3rd to Tennessee where he works with McNair for 1-2 years - not bad.
Like most - I'm bummed because I wanted to see VY one more year - but after watching Carson Palmer blow out his knee on a freak play - you understand injuries can happen in a blink - and Vince loses $20M in a blink if that happened in a late season game.
I do believe he would have had a year for the ages, UT repeats, and he goes No. 1 in the draft after winning the Heisman - BUT - if the injury or worse does happen - we all regret it with him.

Still view him the same way - he is awesome and he has brought so much to UT. I have been a fan since birth pretty much - I was never given a chance with the Orange Bloods in my house!! I have cheered during the highs and been as down as possible with the lows. I have never jumped off that UT bandwagon though! I wish Vince to have a superb NFL career and whichever team gets him (subliminal message inserted here: TEXANS!!) will be the better for it because he is a good person too. UT will be fine - lots of talent there and more on the way, many because of Vince. Like I said - he has brought a LOT to Texas and he will always be the KING!!

Amen to what CyFallsMom just said. I support Vince's decision 200%. He's ready, and I'll be an instant fan of whichever franchise picks him up. Texas has recruited well, and will be fine.
With Vince the horns would have been preseason #1 next year....I will now say the Buckeyes may come to Austin with that #1 ranking. Do you guys think the Horns will have enough to take them.....I mean the defense returns a lot of guys.....The offense loses a lot in Young and Thomas....but I think they still have a lot of firepower coming back to be a top 10 team.

It should be competitive but I have to favor the Buckeyes experience. A new QB needs time to adjust. Could be different later in the season.

The surprising, somewhat concerning issue is the fact that Texas will obviously be quite thin at qb next year. Assuming Colt McCoy, a redshirt fresh., starts - you've got 1-2 true freshmen behind him - still surprised there is no jr at the qb slot - even as a backup.

Guru Mel.
Recent history will show that Mel is not near the guru we believed he was for so long. After all if you will think back he is the guy who said the Colts were making a mistake in drafting Peyton instead of Ryan Leaf and well we all know how that one turned out. Also I heard on 610 that the story he and Chris Mortensen are citing was made a few weeks before the Rose Bowl was played.

Hey, is it possible for the Texans to trade Carr for a #2 pick and then select Vince Young #1 and Reggie Bush #2?
Possible, not probable. They could trade Carr to N.O. for their #2 pick and get both - that would be a minor miracle though. I would hate to see Vince go to Tennessee but, even worse for him, would be the black hole called the New Orleans Saints. Bush, in my opinion, won't be happy in Houston because he has a huge umbilical cord stuck to San Diego and he is not shy about that. Texans may have a "John Elway" situation if they do draft him. They need Vince so badly - they will sell out home games with Vince. I know it will take a while for him to become acclimated but what have they got to lose. I got tired of watching Carr run out of bounds early in the season and stopped watching - I know Vince would at least TRY to get some yardage, even with no OL. He is a game maker and sort of a visionary when it comes to the QB position.
As far as Texas being ranked lower next year - so what!! They were #2 all year with the exception of one week and look what it got them. They actually play better when having to prove themselves (sort of like a high school team that I like to watch;) )

WELL SAID MOM!!! WELL SAID!! Vince will turn this city into FOOTBALL HEAVEN!! So what if we suck now! It will be worth it in the long run! What is more important anyway? FANS!! FANS!! FANS!! Vince will fill the seats and the screen!
PICK VINCE YOUNG HOUSTON!!
I think the Texans should find out who the Saints want, take him, and make a trade for nine draft picks.:D
Seriously, I like Carr and think he can do well given protection. However, VY is a special talent... too good to pass up. I would like to see Houston draft him and trade Carr for an outstanding offensive lineman. While Bush has game breaking ability, the Texans running backs are not shabby. Davis, when healthy, is good, Wells steady, and Morency has upward potential.
Whoever takes Vince Young should revise their offense to utilize his talent. It would be a good idea to have a similar style backup. You are free to question my sanity (many have), but how about taking Reggie McNeil in a later round as both a backup and an additional weapon. An innovative coach could utilize them together on some plays.
This is not be an overnight transition, but would be exciting and, I believe, could work for great rewards in a couple of years. Next season is a building year anyway.

I know I was dreaming (Carr wouldn't bring a #2 pick) but a lot of people are thinking the Texans will take Bush as a pure logical football X and O's reason. Many forget that the NFL is a business and the Texans best business choice is to take VY. He will sell tickets, t-shirts, ball caps, shoes, meatloaf........ The Texans make a lot of their $$ back selecting VY. It's the bottom line that counts in the NFL.

Favpack,
It is interesting we don't have a more experienced QB in the wings, but VY has a lot to do with that also. Of course, in today's day and age in any sport it's basically all about "how fast can I play?" and no one wanted to sit behind Young for 3-4 years.
Heck, Chris Leak even said as much during his recruitment a few years back. He admitted he didn't choose Texas because VY was the player he used on Playstation the most. That's basically an exact quote from Leak.

That's why Lyan "Leon" Perilloser did what he did coming out of high school. He didn't want to wait behind Vince. The irony is that Leon could have red-shirted at Texas just like he did at LSU, but here, he would more than likely have 4 years to be the starter starting right now. Now, he's going to have to battle it out in the offseason to try and beat out Flynn just so he can have a shot at taking the starting job away from Russell... who still has a couple of years left. Makes you wonder what these kids are thinking.
