some will call it progress ... I have mixed feelings. I appreciate Reliant Stadium and I don't want them to tear down the Astrodome, but I have to wonder what the hell they're going to do with it.

I don't think they even use the Astrodome for boat shows, fairs or anything any more...do they?

I had heard at one time some company wanted to make it a hotel but I haven't heard anything in a long time.

Will be very glad to see Texas Stadium come down. I don't get emotionally attached to buildings. The place is a dump.

I heard the same thing and I even saw some pictorials of how it would look. thought it was a good idea to make it a convention center full of hotels and restaruants. I doubt it will ever happen, but if the Olympics were to ever be held in Houston, or in Texas at all for that matter, you can bet they would polish that old dome up and play it up in grand fashion.

A couple of thoughts.

- I have spent a ton of hours in those two buildings. I will miss them.

- The Cotton Bowl is still standing. ;):p

I certainly have very found memories of Texas Stadium, but I didn't mind it crumbling into the dirt either. It was an old and smelly crap hole, but I must say with the recent turn face JJ has put on in regards to our high school football, I could stand the smell a bit longer in order to have a large venue to experience our mega playoff rounds and stay in the rotation for the title games.

The word is that it is not as high school friendly as Texas stadium was. Southlake was to be the first high school game at the new stadium but they got bumped for a college game and then they have tripled the price to have games at the stadium. When it was $10,000.00 the districts could easily make up that cost with ticket sales, but at $30,000.00 it gets tougher.

We will have to wait and see what they do with the playoffs. So far I am disappointed but will withhold total judgment until the playoffs get here.

I think he wants $30,000 a game for HS to play there. This would eliminate HS play. I believe TS was $5,000.

The policy as I know it is, if you have prior arraingments made to play there, but Jerry wants to schedule an event that is going to put better money in his pocket, then he simply pushes you asside in favor of the better draw. makes his pockets fatter, for that I understand, but I am seeing it through my high school football loving eyes also, for that it makes me sick....and mad.

As far as anything "official" in terms of a "policy"...I have heard or seen anything.

Play games at the Cotton Bowl or explore SMUs Ford Stadium. I actually think that Ford Statium would be a fantastic venue for playoff games. At 32,000 seats, it would feel a lot more full with 20,000 fans in the stands. It was a great venue for the SLC--MNW matchup. It's a really nice facility.

You got Amon Carter or, the Cotton Bowl.

The first game I saw at Texas Stadium, was in '88. Trimble Tech played Rodrick Walker and Nimitz there. OUCH!

Was there the very next year, when Trimble Tech pulled off the upset against Bell.

My thoughts on the place are mixed. It needs to go but, there's alot of history that took place in that stadium. From Emmitt breaking the record, to Thanksgiving Day miracle performances by Jason Garrett and "The Mad Bomber"! All the way down to Big 12 Championship games between Texas and Colorado, to the high school ranks where we saw Trinity and Carroll pack the house, and other big high school games that were there.

Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5's Reunion Tour! WWF, and so on and so on!

It'll definitely be missed!

Parking may be a problem when you start putting more than one game at SMU.

Parking at the Cotton Bowl is fine, but the natural field might be a problem with multiple games.

Sad to say the days of quadruple headers may be over, and triple headers might be rare.

It is certainly a nice facility. I've seen several games there with the Carroll/MNW and the Tom Landry Classic...also a few Pony games as well, but as Yankee stated, the parking would be out of control if you had one of our 4 game mega playoff days...with people from one set of games leaving and others coming in..it would be horrible..Come to think of it, UNT wouldn't likely be much different, but TCU is a little better. I dont know what the answer is, but I hope we find it soon.

Fouts field is the worst stadium I have seena football game at, followed closely by the Astrodome. The Astrodome's seats were at crazy angles to the field and poor field alignment.

Fouts is just dumb. They have a track around the field and then a long jump pit on the outside of the track. The slope of the seats is poor and your viewing angle sucks.

Ford is nice, but parking sucks. Amon Carter is fine as well.

FOr as much crap as TS gets from the fans, there were no other plcaes around that could handle a triple, even quadruple header as well as that place, and the viewing angles were outstanding. Plus you got Super Bowl Nachos.

Exactly! Oh, and I was one of the one's that gave up and turned around. LOL! Gerald J. Ford is a nice facility but, the parking is horrible and a triple or quadruple header would be pure hell. Amon Carter could do it! The parking is better but, you have a ton of lights to go thru on University and Berry. Unless, you come the back way down Hulen and up Bellaire and even then, you have the lights on Hulen and a couple of stop signs on Bellaire. Oh, and I forgot about the natural surface at TCU, which could be a problem with mutiple games.

That would seem the most likely scenario. That will suck because paying 10 bucks to see 8 teams and 4 games with 2-3 of those usually being epic matchups was awesome. Hopefully we can get a venue that can host at least 2 games, possibly 3 in one day.

And, there's plenty of them to go around! You've got Birdville FAAC, Northwest, Pennington, UTA, DeSoto, Kincaide, Burleson, Collins, Pizza Hut Park, Mesquite Memorial, Williams, HBJ, Rockwall now, and many other places. We aren't running short on facilities by any means!

Birdville FAAC has hosted mutiple games in a day plenty of times, as has Pennington.

The Fort Worth ISD has 2 big stadiums, Farrington Field and Herman E. Clark Stadium. But, they suck! Farrington seats 19,000 and Herman E. Clark seats around 15-16,000. But, they suck! At the same time, if they just did re-modeled the lockerooms, put down some field turf, better concessions, and better press boxes, then they could both be better facilities. Both stadiums are old, especially Farrington.

If the Fort Worth ISD would just give both stadiums facelifts, then could host playoff matchups.

SMU. It was decided on last week I believe. Lewisville/Marcus played at Fouts in 97 when Marcus beat the hell out of Lewisville. A Willie Nelson concert at Tx Stadium is why they had to move the game there. If I am not mistaken that game set a Fouts Field attendance record at the time or that was the rumor at least

The SWC tourney was great there. The Piggies referred to it as Barnhill South. They packed that place for the 94 Midwest Regional Final when they beat Michigan in the elite 8. I agree. The grass situation isn't likely a real big deal to teams playing on it, cause if you play football in Texas, then at some point you have played on grass. It's likely more of an issue to the hosting site and them not wanting their field ripped to shreds by 500 sets of cleats in one day.

Even if Jerryworld somehow becomes attractive for games, it is also not as centrally located as TS. Location of the stadium is going to be an issue. Even if Fouts was a good venue, the location really isn't all that good for a lot of folks.

Its my understanding that Texas-Oklahoma demand grass. The Cotton bowl people did not schedule any games. or few between the state fair and the Cotton Bowl game to protect the field. Thats not an issue any more, so it should be open for POs.

I had a $4.50 hot dog once, even went back and bought another and a Dr Pepper. Before I knew it the 20 I had brought into the stadium was gone and I had to go back to the ATM to get more cash so I could enjoy a $7.00 cheese burger for the second game. I only bought one of those as I went back to the grilled chicken sandwich the second half with my Dr Pepper that took away the other 20. I remember thinking the same thing you did about price and how it had to be good

What was the name of the goalie for the Sidekicks back then, I remember his first name being Joe but can't recall for the life of me what the last name was(?)

It was Joe Papaleo. he also played for Tacoma before coming to the Sidekicks, I believe.

I agree. The grass situation isn't likely a real big deal to teams playing on it, cause if you play football in Texas, then at some point you have played on grass. It's likely more of an issue to the hosting site and them not wanting their field ripped to shreds by 500 sets of cleats in one day.

True post! But, hell, now, the only games that'll be played at the Cotton Bowl is the Red River Shootout and the Al Lipscomb Classic. Oh, and I forgot that they added the Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff game to the list on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

That's it for the Cotton Bowl.

This is true. I used that liquid, allegedly cheese stuff to recaulk the windows of my house and it's holding up great.

LOL! You must've gotten some bad cheese. It was good everytime I ate them.

Krys "the wall" Sobieski(sp?)

I don't really recall the Stars or anyone else for that matter being a real rival. I think that the SD Sockers may not have been playing at that time. Trying to remember some of the names, St Louis Steamers, Baltimore Blast. Good times.

I remember the Baltimore Blast and that old orange ball they used in the league. I always thought it was cool they would punt the ball into the stands after they scored a goal and then Tatu added to it by actually throwing his jersey into the stands after he goal as well. I went to a few Sidekicks games growing up. Indoor soccer was pretty neat

I believe it was in 2002 when the Dallas Morning News put on their basketball classic before the playoffs started. It featured 3 games at Reunion between the best the area had to offer. I can not remember what the first game was beut the last two were The Colony with Bracey Wright, Deron Williams and a guy they sent to Rhode Island against SOC and the headliner was the states number 1 ranked 5A team at the time in Cedar Hill led by future Michigan star Daniel Horton going up against the nations number 1 ranked team in Dallas Lincoln led by Chris Bosch and Byron Hopkins. That game sold out reunion. We got our tickets early though and were courtside for it. That Dallas Lincoln team finished the season undefeated and mythical national champs and they could get up and down the court. I never understood why they didnt use Reunion more for HS basketball after the Mavs left.
I also hated when they got rid of the blue seats with a row of green seats every 15 rows or so and replaced every seat with the forrest green color. Reunion was a loud place when full

Might be the right name, just not the right goalie for the '87 championship season.

I wasn't clear in my original question. My mistake. I do not recall the '87 season or championship much at all if any. That was back when they wore the green though right?

It's cool man. I am trying to remember some of the other players they had and for the life of me I can't. I remember goalie Joe and Tatu obviously but after that I can't. I'm talking from the ear of the MISL up to around 91-92 before the league became the MSL. I remember seeing the Sidekicks practice a few times at Inwood Soccer center too. That was a cool place. I had a friend who played indoor soccer, the same friend who was a stud on the Dallas Texans but got burned out by the time he was in HS. We went and watched him play at Inwood in the bubble. I enjoy indoor soccer far more than I did outdoor at the time

The other guy on that The Colony team was Bamfield Harmon. Bam was also an all state WR for the Cougars that year.

I never had the chance to go to Reunion. I've only been in Dallas going on 2 years. I just pass by it all the time.

I used to always here everyone say how much of a dump Texas Stadium was and I didn't believe it until I actually went to some games there.

My favorite game at TS: watching Abilene beat SLC
But that is only limited to the last 2 playoff seasons.

Bam was it. I dont recall him being an all state WR but my memory could be jaded a bit. I do remember him being a very good football player and a pretty decent basketball player but not in the same league as Wright and Williams.

Those are soem familiar names now. Especially Shamu. The first time I had ever head of Taco Cabana was from watching a Sidekicks game and they started advertising it. They had just built one in Lewisville at the time so we went to try it out a few days later. I've been hooked ever since :notworthy

For some reason, I thought Bam was all state at reciever! Helluva deep threat!

But, no, he wasn't in the same class as Bracey or Deron when it came to basketball but, he was a good one though.

Call me weird or soemthing but I looked forward to entering that dump each time I went. Mainly because I was able to get past the stadium surroundings and focus on the joy the men down on the field provided. I knew my Saturdays would always be busy from around the second week in November until mid December/Christmas.

I think Pizza Hut Park is atleast 25,000. Whenever the Frisco schools play big games against other teams, or themselves, they always play there. But, Pizza Hut Park also has a natural playing surface as well.

Will be very glad to see Texas Stadium come down. I don't get emotionally attached to buildings. The place is a dump.

both places were not the venues the Dallas franchises deserved to play in.

Texas Stadium was terrible!
