We'll now that we've reached the off-season now its time for the most important question to be asked.
At least the most important question to the my self and the 3 Pearland guys who visit this board regulary, and that it
How will 24-5A look next year???
This is my prediction based on the current look of 24-5A which includes the Pearland Oilers, Galveston Ball Tors, Clear Creek Wildcats, Alvin Yellowjackets, Clear Brook Wolverines, Clear Lake Falcons, and Brazoswood Bucs.
I don't know how 24-5A is going to look after the realignment and I don't know whats gonna happen with the whole 3rd or 4th playoff spot. But any ways heres what things will look like in 06.

Pearland Oilers
10-0
The Pearland Oilers will bring back phenom Foswhitt Whittaker (210 att., 1692 yds, 8,1 average, 18 TDS), who led the Houston area in Rushing yards and has always been one of the best rushers in the state since joining Varsity his sophomore year. That reason alone should give the Oilers the crown in this weak district. Pearland will lose sensational QB Michael Speciale (660 yds 6 TD’s passing / 778 yds, 11 TD’s scrambling) and great defenders Texavier Henry, Justan Vaughn, and Ernest Buch. Tony Heath will find a way to get his Oilers in order before the start of the 2006 season and finding a QB should not be a problem since Pearland has a great crop of young players coming up to replace this years graduated seniors. Whittaker will probably see tons of carriers and he won’t mind the extra load because he will be looking to pad his already immense yardage and TD totals while he searches for scholarships from D-I colleges.

Clear Creek Wildcats
8-2
In 2005 the Clear Creek Wildcats saw good times and bad times. They continued their losing streak from 2003 and didn’t win a non-district game. They snapped their streak with an upset win against Alvin and then defeated their rival the rapidly declining Clear Lake Falcons (that was a fun day) 31-27. They made the playoffs and upset Deer Park before losing to Beaumont Westbrook. Creek will return almost all of their starters on one of the youngest teams in 24-5A. Among the returners will be QB Neal Warden, who as a sophomore led 24-5A in passing yards (1349 yds, 11TD’s) and WR’s Jereme Brooks (35 rec., 497 yds, 5 TD’s) and Taylor Echols (15 rec, 370 yds, 3 TD’s). Their rushing game is intact as Creeks leading receiver is also their leading rusher. Brooks ran for 425 yds and had 4 TD’s. The lines will be young as they are the positions that lose the most players but Coach Darrel Warden has proven he can build a winning team, and it seems he has turned the Wildcats around in the right direction. The talent and skill is there but I don’t think they will beat Pearland.

Galveston Ball Tors
6-4
Galveston Ball will lose some big name players in Avery Curry, Marcus Littleton, Dwight Taylor, and Reginald Thompson, but they will return the core of their football team. Quinnten Cleveland (29 att, 192 yds, 4 TD’s) will do just fine taking over at RB. They will have to replace QB Reginald Thompson with sophomore Andre Patino who only saw 1 snap all year, their receiving core is also depleted as they return only players who never saw much playing time. They return 11 defensive players to one of the better defensive units in the area. While it seems like Ball will have problems with inexperience and young players, remember that 24-5A is a bad district where all the teams will see the same type of pattern. Ball also has had no problems in the past fielding quality teams with the players they have, this year should be no different.
All of this however is a non-factor if the coaching situation in Galveston, caused by the ineligibility scandal, spirals out of control. The players and fans of Gball feel cheated and betrayed by their coaches, and that coaching staff (if they even make it to next year) will have to prove themselves all over again to the HS and the city. I’m betting that everything in Galveston will settle down and we see the Tors lock up the 3rd spot in playoffs.

Clear Lake Falcons
4-6
The Key word for the Clear Lake Falcons is maturity. Lake can only really go up from the cellar they are in now and they must look back at 2005’s terrible season as a season of learning and maturation. There are still plenty of questions, Can the Falcons overcome their loser mentality? With the wins that will come in 2006, confidence will build and Lake will break from that mentality before the start of the 2007 season. Will Players step up and fill in the big shoes left behind by CB Anthony Zamora (6 ints), DE Blake Sledge, LB Jeremy McKinney, RB Geno Blow (1154 yds, 10 TD’s). If the 2005 team couldn’t fill the shoes of the 2004 team then why would the 2006 team fill in the shoes of what is basically the last players from the 2004 team? The only player who should step up is RB Ronnie Feaster (635 yds, 6 TD’s). Feaster is the last player to be involved with the 2004 state semi-final team left in Lake, and now that he is the go to back he will prove why he was on that team. I expect Feaster to continue Lake’s tradition of great backs under Aduddel (Chris Sprot 02/03, Elrick Jones 04, Geno Blow 05) and with an improved option offense compete with Whittaker for the top rusher in 24-5A. The quarterback position will either remain stable if Jon Gilmer can come into his own and hold onto the ball (if that happens Lake will be good), if he plays in 2006 like he did in 2005 then Lake will be bad again. Lake should be better, but it is not yet a winning team.
I guess if this 4th playoff spot thing goes through with the UIL, then Lake will have the last spot in playoffs, but I don’t know if they will have 4 spots based on the current districts or if they will add teams or change the districts…

Alvin Yellowjackets
3-7
Alvin will continue to be a middle of the road team like they have been the past few years; missing the playoffs by a spot or making the 3rd spot into playoffs. Losing the last two games of the year in 2005 and losing a playoff game they had no reason being in will not help the Yellowjackets momentum going into 2006. They will lose many productive defenders as well as their core of recivers which accounted for 1437 yds of their 2450 total yds of offense. They do however bring back a good QB in James Brown (1190 yds, 9 TD’s) and RB/WR/KR sophomore Vincent Wydermeyer (271 yds rushing, 159 yds passing, and 104 yds reciving, no TD’s though?) Alvins offense should keep their games competitive but their defense will continue to decline from the great year they had in 2004.

Clear Brook Wolverines
2-8
Clear Brook is nearly impossible to predict. When expected to do good, they do bad, and vice versa. It will be difficult for Brook to replace the rushing game it had in 2005 (1382 yds) when 3 year starter Carlos Frank is leaving, as well as his good back up Torrance Francis. Veteran QB James Holmes is also leaving, but the Wolverine passing game should be ok since Brook is bringing back a tough, experienced reciveing core, losing only one wide out. Of this group of receivers the best will be Kris Caroll (103 yds, 1 TD), Anthony Bimage (109 yds, 2 TDs), and Chad Bimage (68 yds, 3 TDs). The biggest question lies at the most important position. QB James Holmes threw for 719 yards and 8 TD’s, replacing him will be junior QB Cody Crader. If Crader can find his niche then Brook will be fine, Crader has only taken 25 snaps and has 2 interceptions but also has 91 yards. The position hit most severly is the O-line. They bring back 3 players, none of which saw much playing time. If the Texans have given us anything, its that a bad line can kill a team and a QB. Young QB Crader is probably going to have a hell of a time trying to pass when he will probably get flushed out of the pocket a lot. The Wolverine D allowed only 21.2 points per game in 05 but they are going to lose many impact players. Jordan Thompson, Trey Provost, Dexter Smith, and Kevin Whittaker have 12 picks between them and all of them are leaving. D-Linemen Broderick Davis, Mitch Gainey, and James Spencer all leave. Between the all the players leaving and Brooks history they should finish near the back of 24-5A. Just don’t be surprised if Brook defies all the odds and has a great season.

Brazoswood Bucaneers
0-10
Brazoswood will return to its normal position at the bottom of 24-5A. The already dismal offense and defense are going to fall even more with so many players leaving. B-Woods offense averaged a 24-5A low 15.7 points per game and all the good, productive, experienced players are leaving. RB’s Josh Felder and Yobis Walker who ran for 1034 yds of the Buccaneer s 1447 yds are leaving as is WR/CB Chris King. King led Brazoswood with 324 yds, 4 TD’s and 2 ints. Wide Out Devon Bernal is also leaving and hes taking 119 yds catching with him. The Buccaneers QB Matt McClure is coming back but across the entire 2005 season which saw Brazoswood’s best receivers in years, he threw for only 687 yds and 6 TD’s. I don’t have much on the Brazoswood D, but if history tells us anything, it won’t be spectacular.

I get my stuff from the Chronicle, and they listed them as seniors. Thats weird. I would have a little bit more realiable information, but I honestly just don't know anything about Brazoswood other than their name is the Bucs, they play reeeeally far away, and they usually sneak in only 1 win a year...

Remember 24-5A is still really weak and I have them only winning 6 games, and while I don't know what their non-district schedule is gonna look like next year, the usually schedule pretty easy and take on a 4A team at least once.

Creek, Brook, and Lake always have strong Vball teams. Brook had these sisters this year that just absolutley dominated, and Creek had this one girl that could almost fly. She had a vertical higher than most of our basketball players! Lake had a really good team and all the girls are inseperable. I was really disappointed when we lost to Deer Park because I thought they had a good chance to get to state. Next year we'll have three starters return (2 sophomores, and a junior) along with a really good group of varsity players that didn't start and some good JV. Lake is working on building a really good program and i think they'll go far over the next few years.
The football field is ruled by Pearland that is true. Oilers do need to start finding some other offense besides Whittaker. With Speciale gone I don't know who's taking over at QB; I'm sure Pearland will find some one to take over for Speciale and next year for Whittaker. Heath has a great program there and will find a way to keep them great for a while.

I havent heard anything about Proctor.
If Bwood can make playoffs more power to them. I always liked Bwood, its a nice school, still in the city but a real country feel to it. I have a friend whos grandparents are like big cheeses throughout Brazoswood. I just don't think the way the've played the last two years their gonna turn it around and make playoffs all of the sudden. But i guess if they had a chance of doing it this would be their year, especially with Walker and King coming back apparently, and with the weakened state of 24-5A and the possibility of a 4th playoff spot.

with most of their offensive line gone, i still think that the oilers will again have the crown for the third year in a row. with offensive losses like webster, pelc, kutch, speciale, they will need some help with the offense. the defense looks about the same. with torry peterson and tony barrows gone from the d-line and texavier, justan, and busch in the secondary, the defense will not need as much help because of the incredible backups that they have. i look forward to seeing the pearland oilers on top of 24-5A again this year.

If pearland wins 24-5A so what. It's a weak district ClearLake was un-Clearlake like with their run to the semis in "04".Galveston Ball is a coulda, shoulda, woulda team all the time. ClearCreek will have all offense and no "d', Lakes option attack is limping with not enough athletes. Btw it's a rare thing for a pure option team to get very far in RegIII. Pearland has some talent but other than Anthony Evans at UofH what has PLand had to amount to anything since heath took the team? I see the district being wide open with PLand Creek,Ball and Lake .

Your right, i forgot about that dumb Alvin game we lost. Worst day of my life. Failed 2 tests, got a d-hall, crashed the car, got grounded, bummed a ride from my friends parents all the way to alvin (awkward silence the whole way there), and managed to watch Lake get manhandled to a team we should have beaten easily.

i think pearland will win district....with creek coming in at second(they were pretty young last year and only really lost austin yancy) the third and fourth place teams will be a toss up between g-ball,lake,brook, and maybe b-wood
the only thing that will change on pearlands team is the o-line.....other than that the seniors of this years team had some back ups that can get the job done....and pearland has did alot besides anthony evans(the only high school team tha has 2 running backs in the top 10 5a all time leadinng rushers including Brandon Roberson....and might have 3 depending on how well fozy does next year.....and after him there is a kid by the name of casey carrier(freshman) that played at the end of the season......pearland was one of the few teams that on all levels (freshman thru varsity) went undefeated during the season....and get can only get better because the coaches learn from past years and the talent is getting better....pearland SHOULD be a well known powerhouse in a couple of years...if they continue to get better and they dont split up the school

2- 9 grade campus
only one football team!!!! They will not divide up the town.
