What if:
The two State Champions winners played a preplayoff game and both went on to win all the rest of their games, where one has one loss and the other went undefeated, would we have a so-called single Champion?
Let's consider who are likely canidates...they have to play a real good team from the opposite Division.
Allen, they play Wylie, Trinity
Katy, they play Northshore,Pearland
Cedar Hill, they play Trinity
SLC, they play Northshore
Northshore, they play Katy, SLC
Dallas Skyline, they play Arlington Bowie
A. Bowie, they play Skyline

No.
Example, Trinity vs. Odessa permian. No doubt that if they didnt play in the playoffs that and both won championships, everybody would have proclaimed OP the true champs.
Another Katy lost to Hastings in District play, then came back in the playoffs and stomped them.
Certain teams know how to get the job done in the playoffs.

No doubt but what claim would Permian have over the D-2 winner?

In both of your examples the teams played twice! That is not what I am talking about, I mean the two teams ended up winning opposite Divisions.

It happened in 1995 when SA Roosevelt and Converse Judson won the two titles that year. Both were in the same district, and Judson lost to Roosevelt in the regular season. So I suppose Roosevelt was the "real" state champion.

Temple beat Judson in non-district play in 92 as well. Temple won D2 and Judson D1

I like how both times it's happened Judson was on the losing end :laugh
BUT Judson always gets better at the end of the season, that's part of the reason they have never had an undefeated season (unless you consider 13-0-2 undefeated, which it kinda is...but yeah)
EDIT: btw both times it happened to Judson that was their only loss. 2 14-1 seasons haha

I know, but what if they hadn't played and won state in different divisions. What I'm saying is, Just because teams beat you during the regular season doesn't mean they would beat you in the playoffs. Trinity fan should know that.

But that's not what he's asking. He's asking this:
In 1992 Temple beat Judson in the regular season. Both went on to win State Championships. Who was the better team?
In 1995 Roosevelt beat Judson in the regular season. Both went on to win State Championships. Who was the better team?
To me it all depends on what the winning team did. Judson ended the season at 14-1, Roosevelt at 16-0. Roosevelt was the better team that year. Judson ended 14-1 in 92 also, and Temple ended up 15-1. The lost to a 7-3 Killeen team, so which team is better? That is a little tougher to decide.

Which exactly what I'm saying. There is know way of telling which team would have won if they had played in the playoffs.

So we can now deduct that Judson was a true State Champion only four times. Hoo-Hawwwww.:)

Lets also remember too that there were 5 other teams who finished the playoffs without a los in 1988 ;):D

how is this any different than if the two teams ended up playing each other again in the state finals...and they split the games and the loser still claims they are the champ....i'm pretty sure the one that won the title game is the champ....the only thing that matters is the playoffs. If they both win the titles then they are both champs....its hard to put one higher than the other for what they did in the regular season once the season is over. Teams get "Night and Day" better in the playoffs....All the coaches get to focus ALL their attention on the varsity squad= state championships at Katy.

This is all interesting, but irrelevant. They would both be state champs, period. All the more reason to have one bracket per classification or add a AAAAAA. That would eliminate all of this. It would create new problems, too: travel, more whining by losing teams (at the lower classifications especially), and others. But that's another thread.

Why not just let the two champions play a final game and end all of the "What if"?

because neither champ really cares about the what if. The only ones who care are the fans. No coach or player would want to play game 7 if game 6 gives them a championship. i dont know why we even get all bent out about the 2 divisions....its no different that 4a, 3a, if you really break it down. Dont get me wrong, i would prefer to have one champ, but i aint gonna get my pannies in a wad about.:D

Was just going to post this. That's the best example, and everyone who remembers 1995 recognizes Roosevelt as the real state champ that year.

i remember 95 & i bet that judson's rings dont say " the not so real state champs" on them. they probaly say something like 3 out of 4 titles in a row....team of the decade....or we own region 4, always have always will.....
something to that effect. its definitely not a banner that says "we beat or district opponent in the regular season, WooHoo!":p
