Did anyone see VY and Madison in 2001 play Westlake in the semi finals?
Lake stopped him and I was wanting to know what they did to defense him.
It was after the great Dome shootout against North Shore (63-58 score) and he seemed unstoppable but some how Lake did it.

Westlake beat him, but didnt stop him....Madison had over 40 pts in that game. I think Madison's defense couldnt stop Westlake as much as Westlake stopped Madison.

If michael motte doesnt drop the simple screen pass.... he walks into the endzone untouched and NS wins the game....... but.... yeah.. madison could not stop lakes offense... madison just fell short....

I was at that game, but unfortunately I'm not a former player or coach, so I can't analyze the specific strategies used (and it's been a few years). But my memory jives with Pack's post. We really didn't stop Vince. Fortunately, his team was not as strong as he was, and we could outplay them. Further, we had a high powered offense ourselves and a highly motivated team. It was a high scoring shootout and, honestly, the main reason we won is because we scored last.

Lufkin, which beat us for the championship the following week, had a more balanced team. We told our Aggie friends at the time that if we were picking between the two quarterbacks, there was no question in our minds we'd take Vince over Reggie (who was really, as I remember, more heralded at the time). Vince stood out in that game like he did at the Rose Bowl, but we were able to win. I'm very glad he came to Texas and reached a comfort level there to succeed like he did in high school. I hope in the pros he's able to find a team that can somehow work with him to adapt to his natural abilities instead of insisting on making him a drop back passer. I know--it'll never happen.

I watched the Trinity loss to Lufkin during the semi's and marveled that their could be a better quarter-back in Texas than McNeil. But McNeil was defiantely the number two ranked QB that year.

What people forget about that game is that Chad Schoeder, now a WR at A&M, outgained Vince passing and running as the Westlake QB. It was like a game of one on one between the two and wasn't decided until LB Mark Fisher, currently playing baseball at UNC, picked off Vince in the 4th quarter and allowed Westlake to take a two-score lead.

The key to that game was that Westlake took away Courtney Lewis (current A&M RB) from the Madison offense and forced Vince into a couple of key turnovers.

Madison's defense gave up a first down on like 4th and 100..........Westlake scored last....I knew Madison would lose when they lost the coin toss....All Westlake had to do was score first and make Madison play catch up all game....it came down to who had the ball last.
