Might as well start a thread about this, I dont know much about him except he had a great run at Canton.
Seems to be a good hire, Sherman has had some outstanding coaching over the years. Didnt Outlaw pass through there?

Yep. Outlaw was there for seven years (I think).

GA Moore had a short 2 year stint too.

Yep. GA Moore, John Outlaw, Ronnie Tipps...There have been some good coaches and assistant coaches at Sherman through the years, but for whatever reason it has not amounted to a whole hellova lot in terms of the "big" picture.
Sherman has had only 14 seasons on 9 or more wins since the 1920's. And only 8 seasons of 10 or more wins, with 6 of those directly tied to Outlaw and Tipps. Sherman does however lead the all time series in the Battle of the Axe with their rival Denison, though Denison has a state championship in 1984 and 3 straight trips to the title game in the mid 90's. Thats the glaring difference in the 2 sister cities. Sherman has the series lead, while Denison has the hardware. That mentallity is what has to change in Sherman. They need to set their goals higher than just getting the Axe each year. I think Kinne is going to change that thought process...When asked about the Battle of the Axe game versus Denison, coach Kinne said "My goal is to go undefeated, which obviously includes the Sher-Den game".
It just wont happen this season though.:)

Thats correct. 7 seasons, 57 wins in 7 seasons, including 3 seasons of 10 or more wins. Sherman was 5-A in all except his final season there. Outlaw replaced GA Moore who spent 2 seasons there.

GA Moore once told me he had better talent at Pilot Point in the early 80's then he had at Sherman...

He did.

I wouldn't be shocked for that to be the case. GA Moores 2 seasons at Sherman were considered less than stellar (due to his huge success and hindsight being a major factor) but honestly he did quite well with a team that had went 4-6 under Vance Gibson and 0-10 under Harris Brownlee. Coach Moore had 2 consecutive seasons of 6-4 and 6-4. He laid the ground work for Coach Outlaw who came in in 1988 and went 8-2-1 and followed that up with an 11-1 season in 1989. There is no question that after 100 years of playing football, Sherman just had the best player to ever put on a Bearcat uniform and he graduated following last season. That speaks volumes, in that there is just a lack of talent here, which is not the case considering just 5 minutes away in Denison they have studs almost every season, or the athletes are not being developed properly, or they are playing other sports...I will say that for at least the past 15 seasons there has been a great amount of focus placed on the Bearcat baseball program.
Again, as I stated earlier, I dont know the pinpoint answer as to why the Bearcat football program hasn't seen similar success as their rival has seen, other than its a 3 or 4 pronged answer to the question...I do know its huge when you focus heavily on winning a rivalry game, rather than make that goal part of a bigger plan. I think Kinnes mentality in answering the Battle of the Axe question is a good sign for the Bearcats.
