How many of your team's games were decided by special teams? It seems to me that special teams decided alot of football games this year across HS, College, and NFL.

I know Longview had two games where it came down to special teams. We were 1/2 winning by 3 over Rockwall and losing by 1 to SG.

Hmmmm.....Lp had one game come down to special teams. A late field goal lifted you over HH....right? So does that make LP over-rated. Nope. Neither was Longview.

Westlake special teams is a joke. They try to get kids playing time that, even though they may deserve it, only hurts the team because they cannot make the plays.

Plus, they line up in a swinging gate, but never run anything out of it besides shift to their regular kick. They never have run a fake punt, and I doubt they practice it. This year, they weren't really hurt by it, but two years ago it cost them several games.

In 2004 special teams almost gave away a couple of SLC games. In the playoffs SLC consistently gave up good field position as a result of poor special teams play. In the state final SV scored a couple of TDs as a result of special teams play. However, in the end, special teams decided the game the other way.

In the 2003 final a missed SLC chip shot FG by a great kicker may have been the difference in the game.

In 2005 SLC's special teams play was better even with Ortega hurt most of the season and all of the playoffs. Special teams didn't win any games but didn't contribute much to the other team either.

You would think a school with talented athletes like SLC could always find good kickers. I guess that is SLC's weakness if they have one. Longview always seems to have pretty good kickers.

Special teams played a major role in South Garland's loss to Plano West. Plano West special teams got it done while South's did not, blocked punt leading to a 1 yard touchdown drive for PW and missed FG.

South lost to Rowlett by four after missing an extra point. Southhad the ball at the end of the game but needing a touchdown changed plays.

The South Garland vs Longview game had several big plays on special teams. A Longview field goal was set up by a fake punt which went to the SG 13 but LL could not score. LL missed a FG at the end of the half after a time out cancelled a succesful kick. Then LL missed the final FG.

Special teams are big in close games.

there were about 4 special teams plays/decisions that changed the outcome of the game. I can't congratulate SG enough for pulling of the upset. Maybe the upset of the season.
