I can't remember who won it last year or who the top five finishers were...Any thoughts out there on who will do well this year and does it really matter?

Longview doesn't have a team but there has been some discussion of trying to start one. Don't know where we stand on it though. I think it would benefit our program.

Katy's offense should be pretty decent in 7 on 7. With Bo Levi at QB and not bad WRs they should stand a chance at being not too bad. The D might need a little help, but other than that, they might not be too bad. But, like everyone always says, "we'll see".

YES!!! 7 on 7 is very important in texas hs these days. This gives your skill position players time during the off-season to get closer and get their timing down for the upcoming season. Baytown Lee won the even last year. Im not taking anything away from them, but they werent dominating, so the field was quite open. My team beat Baytown Lee in a semi-final at a tournament during the qualifiers. Some teams that will contend next year are Baytown Lee, Cy-Falls, Katy, Bay City, Lufkin, Allen, Cedar Hill. That, of course, is just to name a few, but for the most part good teams are also good at 7 on 7, and it does most of the time translate to good on the field performance during the next season.

Carroll will put a good tem together as usual..Riley played a lot last summer as a receiver and as QB when Greg Mc was at camps....it is good for a lot of reps, but has never really been a good indicator as to how well a team will do 11 on 11..see Colleyville Heritage, who has been the consolation champ 2 years in a row and goes nowhere when the pads go on...

I don't know if 7 on 7 is as important as some seem to think it is. I mean ok Baytown Lee won the tournament and then turned in an 0-7 record. So is it really as important as some think it is. I am not certain but I don't think North Shore has or has even sent a team to the tournament and yet we seem to be doing pretty good. And there are other ways of your offense gettign together in the off-season.

it basically helps qb's get better at throwing & making reads, wr's better at catching, and db's and lb's better at coverage

I don't remember Baytown Lee getting to the playoff's. I think Cinco Ranch won either last year or the year before. I think 7 on 7 is important for your skilled position players, but doesn't translate into playofff potential.
Will Lufkin be in the tournament?

in 2004 Carroll did not even qualify for the state tournament.

7 on 7 is real fun for players but im not sure if it does carry over into the season. Baytown lee won the tourney and they only won 1 or 2 games right or did i hear wrong.

Baytown Lee won the state 7 on 7 crown last year (in horrendous field conditions) and then went "O-fer" during the regular season. But, the year before, Tyler Lee won the 7 on 7 State tourney and then followed that up with a State Championship in the real thing. The year Cinco Ranch won (2002) the 7 on 7 event, they didn't qualify for the playoffs out of 19 5A. In 2003, Permian won 7 on 7 and advanced to the playoffs. For my money, 7 on 7 is fun to watch, but it's not necessarily an accurate forecast of the regular seaon.

7 on 7 is touch football with no blocking, tackling, line play, or professional coaching. Obviously, there are too many parts of real football missing to use it as a barometer for what will take place in the fall. However, 7 on 7 has been valuable to fall football in Texas as it allows skill position players to work on timing, technique, and routes and I would offer that it has been a big contributor to creating more dynamic offenses across the board in Texas High School football. Plus, it looks like it's pretty fun for the kids...

Will Strake be sending a team this year?I'm pretty sure SJ has plans to have a team and take a few shots at qualifying for the state tournament this summer.

Cool...they deserve to be there. I think this years 7 on 7 is going to be very interesting, even if it doesn't mean a lot.

strake jesuit had a 7 on 7 team last year also. they did not do to well, probably because they had about half the people that other teams did for one reason or another. i know they played at the cy creek sqt

They advanced to the qualifying rounds in two SQTs and qualified for the state tournament. Once there they beat Port Arthur Memorial (one of TexasPreps darkhorse picks to win) in their pool and lost to Colleyville on the last play of the game. Colleyville ended up 3rd in the whole deal I think... However, SJ could digress this year as they are graduating most of the key players from last years team.
