Texas' rankings depend on what Vince does. If he comes back next season Texas should be ranked #1 preseason. But if he leaves, they will have a hard time making the top 5, even top 10.

With Vince gone......

LSU is number one. Scary talent returning and they are having a good recruiting year. Their losses at starting positions have equal talent or arguably "close enough" talent to fill positions.

West Virginia is a close second. Again scary talent returning and probably the best offense squad returning. They are getting some great help on defensive side of the ball with recruiting.

Past that is really a toss up between 10 different schools. Georgia, PSU, ND, Ohio State, yada yada all have great talent returning but each will be missing a playmaker or two.

Sorry Horn fans, but I don't think Texas should be ranked in the top 10 till they prove it wasn't a one-man team. I think the Big 12 South will be a lot stronger this year and I just don't see anyone making it out undefeated. The Ohio State game shouldn't be a measuring stick for the year. Texas will be fielding a new QB and this will be a really tough early test. I do think how the season will be measured comes into the OU game however. Sooners turned it on late and they are much improved on both sides of the ball.

Just my thoughts......

1) recruiting rankings aren't a good way of predicting the following season, it's good for looking 2 - 3 years down the road when those players are really making an impact. but i agree, lsu will be looking good, especially if they play they way they did in the peach bowl

2) i dont think texas needs to prove to anyone that they aren't a one man team. if you watched enough texas games you'd know that. of course i'd be stupid to say that vince wasn't of course the ring leader in it all and will be missed greatly, but texas will definitely be a top 10 team.

My Preseason Top 10 (as of now, subject to change)

1) Ohio State - Tons of talent returning, gotta replace those LBs
2) Texas - Plenty of offensive talent at skill positions returning. excellent defense as usual. depends on the play of Colt McCoy
3) Notre Dame - returning experience at QB, RB and WR (Samardzija specifically), need to get that defense more consistent
4) LSU - Again, talent is the key, matt flynn is looking good
5) USC - losing 3 major playmakers, but you'd be stupid to count them out
6) West Virginia - returning a fantastic sophmore duo in QB and RB. but how good is the big east?
7) Georgia - DJ Shockley will have a huge year
8) Florida - Can Chris Leak go a season without choking?
9) Penn State - Losing robinson hurts, but Paterno has this program back
10) Florida State - They are always in the mix

honorable mention:

Michigan - henne and hart returning. they definitely had a down year, but michigan a storied program that'll bounce back.
Oregon - i thought they were an overrated team (as OU showed) but they are still a quality team
Miami - big question mark...sometimes these guys show up (VT) and sometimes they dont (LSU)

To much love for Notre Dame. With games against Michigan and Penn State in back to back weeks, I dont think they will start 3-0. Especially opening up at Georgia Tech. With them finishing in LA against USC I think they lose at least 2 games and possibly 3. UCLA comes to Southbend and I think they will be able to give Notre Dame all they can handle and be in posistion to win that game. Notre Dame has to prove they belong in the top 5 before people start putting them in teh top 5.

Georgia loses to much to be a top 10 team. They take some hits along the O and D-Lines as well as in the skill posistions. Plus Shockley graduates he does not return.

2)Texas-Talented Defense
3)LSU-Overall solid team
4)USC- Pete Carroll
5)Notre Dame- Will have amazing offense, defense will hurt them in the end.

You guys also need to remember when ranking LSU that they still have Les Miles coaching. He is good for at least 2 losses a year. That wont change this year.

Where's all the "they are #1 until somebody beats them"..........

What did that only apply to USC or what?

yes. Remember that as Matt Leinart said, "USC was still the better team". Therefore I think that USC should be number 1 and Virginia Tech should be number two because they will probably have the hardest schedule again and that makes you have a shot whether you win or lose according to John Saunders.

Put Tech at 35 again. We won't be worth a crap according to all the EXPERTS.( because of Hodges graduating(laughing) and the defense losing Slay( crying)

I'm cool with that but I want to point out a couple of things. Recruiting does matter. I have heard many Horn fans stating the reason they will be top 5 is because of Snead (granted not you). Plus I will offer up Babino as your most recent example regarding recruits. Next, your post says it all, #2 Texas....depends on the play of Colt McCoy. This is the primary reason I don't have Texas in the top 5. Granted a solid defense returns and the unsung heroes of the Horns this year was the WRs. They were magnificent and I'm sorry but Vince threw some ducks that those guys made some highlight reels catches. Those guys had hands of glue! McCoy, per Mack mind you, has progressed but still has "a long way to go". This became more apparent with UT's chase of RP and Snead specifically. I do think they are Top 10 because of the defense, WRs, and RBs. However, LSU and WV have leaders at the helm and yes the Big East is better than most people give them credit for....

BTW Farmer Fan, that was a great Les Miles joke!!!! I just think they have enough talent at LSU even he can't screw it up this time.... hahaha

see Tennessee this year, when was the last time a LSU coach blew a 21 point lead during a home game at night? especially to a team who finished with 4 wins and lost to freaking Vanderbilt. so anything is possible and I stand by my statement that he will be good for at least 2 losses this year.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't like Les and I like LSU even less. And it would do me nothing but smiles for those 2 losses. But that freakin guy will lose to a top 40 team one week and then kick the teeth in of a top 5 the next. I think Stoops had nightmares about him.

He did have a way with Stoops. I still laugh way to hard at his "we'll take on any punks" quote he made after the OU game in 2004.
