;)

Their easy schedule was unable to get them more than one state title, I guess.

What's sad is that Lake Travis only really came on the map in the last few years and already have more.

Here is what is likely to come on this thread: An anouncement that HP has three (One when there were no classifications[wwll era], most teams did not play to a state title. And that one was a tie, not an outright title), They won a 4A title 52 years ago, and one this decade.AND they have dominated Garland:rolleyes:

I don't find is so sad, we plan to add more to it, be the 1st for 3 in a row in 4a...we do have a chance with the players we have even if some think other wise this team has really not lost much as far as talent and winning another one. We were playing some freshman during the playoffs and during the championship...

Stephenville actually won 4 titles in the 1990's
Texarkana has only won 1 title
If you go back 25 years you could add WO-S to that list! ;)

4A started 2 division bracket in 1996. In the last 20 years, there have been 20 different champions out of a possible 33. Some interesting stats:

La Marque - 5 championships out of 7 finals
Stephenville - 4 for 4
Ennis - 3 for 4
Denton Ryan - 2 for 3
Grapevine - 2 for 2
Texas City - 2 for 2
HP - 1 for 2
Bay City - 1 for 3
A&M Consol. - 1 for 3
Dennison - 0 for 3
Copperas Cove - 0 for 2
Marshall - 0 for 2

All other champions or opponents were 1st time finalists.

Ya'll draw your on conclusions as to which were dominate programs.

Hebron is 1-1 in 4A title games. They didn't have the opportunity to repeat since they moved up to 5A the next year.

I know Hebron moved up in 2006. They were one of the 1st time finalists, as were Texarkana, Sulphur Springs, Lama Consol., Alamo Heights, Kilgore N. Crowley, Waxahachie, Chapel Hill, Wilmer Hutchins. There was many others that made it at least once to 4A finals, but didn't win it, including Longview.

:)

WO-S went 2-2 in 4A title games

Region IV is really making a comeback. From 1978-2005 a total of ZERO teams from RIV won a title and they've picked up 3 titles the past 3 years

During that time period, Ennis was 3-0 in title games (4-0 overall). Denton Ryan was 2-2.

Garland won the flip all three times in 55 and played all three games at Williams.
Port Neches was a big tough group, with names like La Bourd, and La Beouf etc. The threw about 3 times all day. One pass was a play action from about the one with time running out for the win. But Garland ALLMOST ran the kick off back.
But just as tough a game was round one with Snyder. They had a guy named Jack Spikes (TCU-Dallas Texans-KC Chiefs) and several other D-ls. GarlaND had 5 D-lS Led by Bobby Boyd (Oklahoma all Ameican, 5 times all pro, Baltimore Colts). Garland was lucky to win. Luck counts
In those days the second highest classification actually WAS as strong and the largest class. Brickenridge proved that.

You are correct! Texas High lost in the semis to North Crowley the year they won state. The Tigers had barely got by Kimball the week before, beating them 12-11.

I remember there were always a bunch of bikes by the front gate. We didnt have to put locks on them in those days.
Its funny... I can remember details of things that happened fifty plus years ago,( especially about Garland football) but I cant remember what I had for breakfast.:o

Wow thanks for letting me know that our program doesn't meet the definition of a storied program. All we have done in the past 6 years is win one state championship, finish second another year, have as an alum the first player taken in the NFL draft and won more games then any other team in texas. Maybe if we could just go 3-7 a couple of times in the next ten years we could climb to Garland standards

Was it dangerous in the 50s to drive your bike by the bomb factory, liquor stores and trailer parks?

Garland has three state championships in the largest classification one in 99. Of course being in the largest classification is not something you people understand, but its your choice... good business, good for that all time win number:notworthyWhens the parade?
Garlands 3-7 years were in 5A... that seems to be a difficult concept to understand, and no one from Garland claims it is a "storied" or elite program. Garland only has 4 state chamionships since the 50s.(56,63,64,99) How many does HP have in that time frame? I cant recall.
In the last 20 years HP has the same number of championships as Wilmer Hutchins (and Garland) and half the number of Lake Travis.

Actually the correct name is General Dynamics Tactical and Ordinance Division (the bomb plant). Its funny, I have some friends coming over for the 4th that like scotch, and I am about out of the Glenlivet I got for Christmas so I have to go into Dallas to get it, I guess. Scootsie, or Scootsie too, could you give me the address of a Garland liqour store. you know a secret that Garland folks dont know.(Garland has no liquor stores;)) Bet you can tell me where the Highland Park liquor stores are, there are several, and lots of " joints". Its for the Park Cities, closet drunks, and there are MANY.

La Marque is actually 5 for 8. They lost to Stphenville in 93, 93 and 98. They also lost to Plano in the 5A state finals in 86, I know more than 20 years ago though
