Lost in the individual performance last night was the incredible season that Vince Young had. A season in which Young played about 65% of most games. Still Vince managed to lead the nation in passer rating AND........... If anyone notice a graphic during the game denoting Vince passing 1,000 yards rushing, you would have noticed it saying Vince Young was the first QB in NCAA history to pass for 2500 yards and rush for 1000 yards. What you may not have known, is that in the 4th quarter, Vince Young also surpassed 3000 yards passing. Let's put that into perspectice. Excellent passers throw for 3000 yards. Excellent running backs run for 1000 yards. Vince is the ONLY player in college fb history to do both. Now think of all the great dual threat college QBs out there. Vick, Frazier, Randle El, Woody Dantzler, even Vince's contemporaries like Reggie McNeal and Brad Smith, who were both considered better than Vince probably 15 months ago. None have had such a season. A season that ended in another Rose Bowl MVP(only the 4th or 5th player to do that?) and a NATIONAL TITLE BABY!!!!

Yeah - well Dan Fouts says Matt Leinart is the greatest of all time. LOL - just kidding - excellent research there. If VY sticks around - he will/should be the best college qb of all time - period.

I vote for Billy Joe Tolliver

Oh this is for Football, not golf...

different era, different scheme, but Tommy Frazier from Nebraska was pretty unstoppable

Before Vince, my favorite college QB was Charlie Ward (FSU 93). Agree re: Tommy Frazier. Executed the option to absolute perfection.

3,000-1,000 speaks for itself.

From Hornfans:

Towards the end of the game I saw a stat on ABC that said Vinnce was the 1st QB in NCAA history to run for 1000 yards in a seasona and throw for 2500 yards.....they didn't update this b/c the game was so close towards the end, but it actually ended up being the 1st to run for 1000 and to throw for 3000 in the same season!!!!!

On the season:

3036 passing yards
65.2 comp%
9.3 yards/pass attempt
26 TD, 10 INT

1050 rushing yards
6.8 average/rush
12 rushing TD's

480 total offensive touches
4086 total offensive yards
38 total offensive TD's
8.5 yards/touch

On his career:

6040 passing yards
61.8 comp%
8.4 yards/pass attempt
44 TD/28 INT

3127 rushing yards
6.8 yards/rush
37 rushing TD's

1175 total offensive touches
9167 total offensive yards
81 total offensive TD's
7.8 yards/touch

Vince has:
UT record for individual total offense in a season: 4086 yards!!

UT record for individual total offense in a career: 9167 yards!!

UT record for individual total offense in a game: 506 (vs OSU 2005)

#5 UT in career passing yards: 6040 (#1 is Major with 8353)

#4 UT in career passing TD's: 44 (#1 is Major with 60)

#5 UT in career rushing yards: 3127 (#3 is Earl with 4443)

#4 UT in career rushing TD's: 37 (#3 is Earl with 40)

Vince has obtained the 6000 passing yards and 3000 rushing yards plateau!! Brad Smith of Mizz became the 1st QB to reach the 8000/4000 plateau this year and if Vince comes back he is easily within reach of this.

Vince has thrown for 200+ yards and ran for 200+ yards twice this season.....for combined totals of 506 total offensive yards against Oklahoma St. and 467 total offensive yards against the #1 ranked USC Trojans. On a side note, if he had a decent game on the KR side of things he could have easily gone over 600 all-purpose yards.

Again, Vince is the 1st QB to throw for 3000 yards and run for 1000 yards in a single season!!!! I am not sure this will ever be done again unless they add more games to the season. These #'s were predictable from over 2 months ago as I have repeatedly posted on my Heisman thread that Vince would reach the 3000/1000 mark and would total over 4000 yards....if is obviously the best player in the country at any position and it is a shame Vince didn't get the respect he deserved until after the Rose Bowl. I heard Mike Lupica on Sports Reporters laugh at the fact that Vince thought he had a chance at the Heisman.....who's laughing now Mike?

All of this put together, can we now say that Vince is the best dual-threat QB in the history of the NCAA? Personally I think he is the best running QB in college ever....add to the fact that he has become a dangerous passer (#1 in passing efficiency this season before the bowl game) and I don't know who can stack up to him in terms of both running and passing.

I am waiting ESPN, where are the "is Vince the best ever" stories?

thank you for the memories Vince!!!

Only one player in NCAA History had passed for 300 and ran for 200 in a game...and that was the QB from Washington a few years back(Tuasososapio)Sp?.....and he did that against the almighty STANFORD CARDNIAL defense....a real PAC 10 powerhouse. Vince was 30 yds away from doing that in a national title game against the "Greatest Team" in the universe.
