I talk alot about PJ on this site, some know him some do not. I have included a link to a Highlight video we created for several Colleges that asked for it.
Every College camp (D-1) we have visited this summer want to see PJ play Slot Receiver not Running Back. D-1AA (FCS) and below have looked at him as a RB. Because he plays RB at Klein not Slot they asked us for 7 on 7 highlights. So...here it is:

Looks like he has great hands... however, they want him to play slot at 5'6"?

Freshmen All American Slot Receiver Demaris Johnson at the University of Tulsa is listed at 5'8" but I stood eye to eye with him at the camp...I am 5'6"
PJ has good speed he ran a 4.48 at the UTEP camp last week, great hands and is very ellusive in open space.
If you were the coach where would you have him play?

I have seen it happen and work pretty well with somebody that lacked height at the D1 level playing the slot WR position but your right, I think being able to play CB would help also. Now as Rod mentions earlier I think he could be an explosive slot WR at the D-IIA level, for instance a southland conference team. (hint: SFA, SHSU) and no thats ridiculous I wouldn't just bring those two up because of personal reasons!

He looks like a player. Congrats! I hope he has a great year.
Since he'll be playing some more 7 on 7 games, it seems to me it would be a good idea to film another highlight video and focus just on him (forget the QB) from the start of each play to the end. Sure you'd cut out a lot of film (when the ball is not thrown his way), but it might show him off better. Show how he runs his routes, how he gets open, creates separation, and also show more clearly how well he catches.
Just a thought.

If there's a position on the field that suits a 5'6" receiver, it's the slot. I think Tulsa has a freshman slot that made all-american that's 5'6". Really, the position is meant for quick, explosive players who can get separation and have good hands. Is 5'6" ideal? Maybe not, but if the kids got talent and can get the job done... I've seen the kid. He's got some special athletic talent and the skills to get it done. Someone will figure out how to use him...

Ooops. While I do struggle to come up with my own thoughts, this time I really thought I had something...
Actually, I started my reply about three hours ago, got side-tracked, and then finished. By then, my point had already been made. I gotta try harder to keep up.

I think this would help as well. He looked great in the video, though, Rod.

It is good to finally see him after reading about him from time to time. He has great hands and feet. You are a proud Dad and rightfully so. Good luck this yr.

I appreciate all of the positive feedback!:D
The recruiting process for an undersized athlete is a very interesting one. PJ's size means that he needed increases in speed and some bulk. He has done both and we feel, based on ongoing discussions with D-1 programs he will end up somewhere.
One of the posters mentioned him playing corner back. I thought about discussing this with several programs. I have not yet but based on feedback from you guys I may open that up. PJ stopped playing defense during his freshmen year at Klein. He is a great cover corner with a good vertical and ball awareness.
Also, the filming issue about focus on PJ is an issue as the QB dad paid for the filming. So unless I hire someone we will probably use the one I get from them.
GO BEARKATS!!!

I was just being honest regarding the cornerback potential, I both played and coached.......that kid has the tools to do it at a high level. I appreciate all of the positive feedback!:D

If I were the coach I would play him where ever it was going to be in the best interest of the team and for the team to do well. The better the team does the better it is for the individual players.

I'd take a team of 11 PJ's if I could get them... But you can see that the QB gets his good looks from his daddy...

Thanks! Unfortunately, he has already been told, despite his performance in 7 on 7, he will not get the starting job in the fall.
Here's some more on him:

I've always wondered what Klein did with their passing quarterbacks. :D ;)
Slot receivers can be shorter. Their main function is creating the mismatches against the LBs and obviously using quickness to create separation. They can also be used very effectively as runners (jet sweeps, motioning into backfield). PJ certainly fits the bill in that spot.
Height is required more for outside receivers since they are going against the best cover guys on the field. Technically, their won't be as much separation in that case so they have to be able to go up and get the ball at its highest point. Outside receivers can be slower and still be very effective provided they can run a route, use their body and go get a ball. Anquan Boldin is a great example of this in the NFL. I think he ran a 4.6-4.7 at the NFL combine.

Do they use Laser timing at the NFL combines? PJ ran a 4.57 Laser timed at the Austin Scout combine. Just wondering how that compares and is it the most accurate?

They use the laser timing that is used at the Olympics and all other track competitions these days (FAT). I believe the NFL also has people hand timing each 40. Combine 40s are also run on field turf.

Very true about the slot observation and purpose on sweeps.
He is a prototype of the slotback we use in our spread.
Typically used in Tulsa and WV type offenses at the next level....good hands are a must and he has them.
