Cheerios.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/19/fda-takes-cheerios-task-boastful-labels/

I say we nuke the General Mills facilities.

Thank you, Uncle Sam. Go after those food labels. Clearly, whole grain cereals are the death of society.

Are you suggesting that the FDA stops looking at food and drugs and focus on Iran and North Korea?

I guess they could add some value, but it seems that if they focus on their current task they would be much more effiecient.

The problem with obesity in America is not Cheerios. I was shocked when my children started school and PE was put in with the fine arts. They got it every 6th day for 45 minutes. Recess is only 30 minutes and that is if the temp is above 45 degrees and below 92. The wind was not blowing to hard and the kids that needed to be disciplined were taken out of recess so they could just sit in cafeteria. Put PE in everyday and have a recess period regardless. If weather is really bad send them to the gym for it. Let the kids move.

The harsh tone from the Obama admin on Cheerios tells me once again we are too stupid to think for ourselves. We need the government to tell us how to do our banking, how to get a mortgage, how to buy a car, completely take over our health care, and now how to eat.

In the mean time we have a N. Korean ship moving and threats that if the US does go aboard they will retaliate. They are planning on launching a missile that could hit HI. All h*ll is breaking loose in Iran and they are testing this administration as well. I put those two issues above whether or not Cheerios really helps cholesterol. I asked a dietician and yes it does combined with excercise and eating properly the rest of the day. It does help but not alone.

I say let them fight.
This is a good time to get outta dodge. Let the iraqis deal with it. The world had the decency to stay out of our civil war and I think we should repay the favor.
And thanks for the heads up on Cherrios, Big Chief! I just love to see my tax dollars at work....

Not saying we should go into Iran over the uprising but we do have the little problem of them getting a nuclear weapon and wanting to knock Isreal of the face of earth.

All this bad stuff will be banned once we lose health care - then it will go black market - yes!

In a "nanny-state" you have the gov try to mitigate all risks, control all outcomes and ultimately rob us all of life experiences. If football were this way nobody would watch it or play it. It would be a waste of time.

From the article.

"The Obama administration is reversing course, thank goodness, and enforcing the law," he said. "Cheerios was the first target. We hope though the FDA under the Obama administration clamps down on misleading health claims by other food manufacturers as well.

"During the Bush administration the Food and Drug Administration essentially took a policy of non-enforcement and failed to stop what became increasingly exaggerated claims, first by small food companies and by larger and larger food manufacturers," Silverglade told FOX News.

So to be clear, keeping bad laws on the books and not enforcing them is better than doing away with them or simply enforcing them?

I wonder what valued the cheerio researcher would have on a Naval frigate staring down a North Korean ship.

Again, who made us in charge of the nuclear weapon hall pass? AND with all due respect how long are we going to treat Isreal like some colony or Jr. America? They want respect? Then they need to blow somebody up like we did. Find an excuse to wipe out a government and roll with it OR Kim Jung Nutjob your way into power by being so rabid that nobody wants a piece. Get some sh!t in your neck and grow a pair. We got our own problems.

Used it take another swipe at the Bush administration. Acts like this is a huge deal. Honestly, how did America survive for over 200 years without the Obama Administration? They make it sound like nothing worked or was good before them.

Yes, the FDA needs to do it's job. Not be a tool to bash Bush and let Obama tell us how to live.

We will have to agree to disagree on the importance of Isreal and whether or not Iran should have a nuclear weapon. This has been argued over and over and I don't think I can change your mind nor you mine. I respect your thoughts on them, just disagree.

What exactly is the FDA's job? Make sure the drugs we take and food we eat is safe and we know what's in it? Not a stretch to think that making sure that if someone sys that it cures something that it actually oes in my opinion.

I have zero idea if Bush did or did not do anything in regards to this, but find it baffling that some would compare it to the nuclear threat in North Korea etc. Actually I guess I don't find it baffling, more like par for the course, which is disheartening.

Did you read the article??? The whole thing is used to take swipes at Bush and say how great they think they are.

Yes, do your job and regulate the food we eat and the drugs we take. Don't make it political or use it to bully the people.

The connection is the perception that they are more outraged about Cheerios than what is going on in the rest of the world.

I did read the article, the only person to mention Bush or Obama was Bruce Silverglade of the consumer advocacy group, Center for Science in the Public Interest, not anyone from the FDA.

Again, I do not want the FDA meddling with NK or Iran, do you?

Nobody has said they should meddle in N. Korea or Iran. You need to ask KT what his meaning was in starting this thread. I will not speak for him as he is capable of doing that for himself.

The advocacy group repeatedly mentioned this administration. This administration needs to focus on making sure we have an America so we can be concerned about what we eat. IMO Not decide we are to stupid to know what to buy. Cheerios does not claim to cure high cholesterol it claims it can help lower it. No one food can lower it alone hence the help part.

Here is the FDA's comment in the article, and there is none fromt he Obama administration:

At issue are two claims made by Cheerios on their cereal box.
1. "Cheerios is clinically proven to reduce cholesterol 4 percent in 6 weeks."
2. "Cheerios can help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, by lowering the 'bad' cholesterol."

There was a comment from an advocacy group, but somehow we got off topic.

The harsh tone from the Obama admin on Cheerios tells me once again we are too stupid to think for ourselves. We need the government to tell us how to do our banking, how to get a mortgage, how to buy a car, completely take over our health care, and now how to eat.

The tone of the article was to have an opportunity to bash Bush and say how wonderful the Obama administration is. They brought up Obama not me. I do not see were any mention of Obama and especially Bush are warranted in this article. To me it says one more way that the Obama administration is going to get involved in our lives. And ya- that offends me.

I know we will tell people when and what they can post. Then dictate what they can eat while posting and give them all a workout routine to follow after posting. You no longer have to think for yourselves. It will all be done for you. :D
