I just got off the phone with Coach Westerberg. Here's what he had to say:

Ok, so now I'm curious. What is the reason for interviewing a HS football coach in Dallas when there is no correlation between Seattle and Dallas at all this year? Or between Allen and Seattle...

Just curious. I may be missing something.

Just trying to write some interesting stuff. There are only two teams in WA that people from a different state MIGHT care about, and I don't want to write too much about them because then I would seem really biased. I know Allen has nothing to do with Seattle football, but they were a top 10 team last year, and I am currently trying to get interviews from as many top football programs as possible. Just trying to have some fun :)

Also, I am contemplating switching to a National High School Football writer, so this is good experience :)

That's good stuff. I enjoyed the interview. I was just curious as to why you chose Allen.

You have a passion.....go with it.

True! We've given him a pretty rough time here. I'm thinking he would be a good fit in the Texas media.

You asked the right questions, which is refreshing in this day and time. So many interviewers try to make themselves the point of interest.

I enjoyed the interview. Thanks for the additional exposure for the Coach and our program. Next time you do an interview you might want to ask for inside info from some local folks in preparation for the interview. Sure would make it even more fun! ;)

Correction: In Coach W's response about Joe Martin, It should say "He" went to our coaching association instead of "I".

Joe Martin led the Garland Owls to the state championship in 1999 prior to going to work as head coach for Allen.

Cheers,

~

Great article and thanks for posting here or I would have probably missed it.:D

Interesting that "You’ll see them both on the field a little earlier in the game" when talking about Matt and Tucker. Looking forward to seeing what Coach Westerberg comes up with.

.............. because they we're the 2nd best team in the nation last year, and the head coach has been one of the best head coaches over the past decade in Texas, not to mention, the best one last year................

I never questioned Allen's status in comparison to the rest of the nation. I was just curious as to why he chose who he chose being that he's a Seattle Metro guy. He answered my question and there's no need for you to elaborate a question that was directed towards him.

Thanks though

If you think Allen's pride will be deflated soon, then you are very wrong. We were loud and proud before the championship. While I admit the first time Allen loses a game there may be joy in dragon town and in far south Allen as well, the Eagle fans will not be hanging their heads.

Because if winning the championship were the only thing of value, then the season would be pointless for all but a couple of teams. You have to have joy in the game. Westerberg made that point in his interview.

Don't get me wrong - winning is definitely better than losing. You guys know that for sure. But, right now, we're just happy to be here.

And, don't forget, this time last year NO ONE (outside Allen) thought those kids would be in the winner's circle at Reliant come December.

Evan - thanks for the article.....

My happiness and the Dragon Faithful joy is not influenced one way or the other by Allen's success or failure. I have congratulated you guys on winning last year.

No we are rebuilding and we need a couple because we do not have a quarterback either so we are going to try and run the veer but without a RB we may be in trouble.
