View Full Version : Tony Romo told to get in Better Shape

Keep it real Tony. That's the way to show leadership. When JJ calls you in and tells you to lose 10 and get in better shape - you know you have a leadership problem.

Or just hire J-train as your fb to look thin.

To be fair, Michael Irvin was just on the radio stating that this is only reflective of being dedicated to the core lifts, cleaning and squating, that keep you alive in the NFL through December. As far as athleticism and being in shape goes he admitted this is wildly unfounded and reluctantly supported that claim with the admission that Romo regularly beats him down on the basketball court. I love all the things Romo is saying this offseason. They are just what we wanted to hear and in stark contrast to many of the things that we've heard in the past. This squad, even with Wade, just may shock the hell out of a few of you.

We can hope. Offensively, it's unfortunately 90% on Tony's shoulders. At times I'm fine with that - at others, not so much. I'd darn sure love to see a behind-the-scenes photo of Romo and Roy getting on the same page.

Just read in the paper that, Wade Phillips has started a plan to fine anyone and everyone, who is overweight!

Wow! I never thought I'd see this day come! Wade really wasn't joking when he said that he'd be making changes, not only with the team, but with the way that he's doing things as well.

I still think Wade and Romo have received some unwarranted criticism for off the field stuff, with Wade's being in the locker room and Romo's being something that had zero to do with playing the game.

I want to see how this team does this season, especially on the O and D lines. They have the surrounding talent on both sides of the ball.

I still say Chris Canty will end up being a huge loss.

Roy Williams just does not impress me...at all. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

I agree! Especially with the o-line! The o-line, in my opinion, was the main reason why they fell apart last year. As important as the QB position is, the line is equally important. All teams that have won championships, did so with good/great lines.

The d-line will be fine! I, respectfully, disagree with Canty being a huge loss. Olshansky will do a fine job at DT/DE, not to mention, he's a little better than Canty.

Alot of people aren't expecting much from this bunch. But, you just never know. If the o-line does it's job, and the defense plays like I think they will, then they'll pull off some surprises and have everyone walking around with second thoughts about them.

I think Canty is going to get lost on the Gmen's dline and will struggle to replicate his numbers/impact he had in Dallas. Conversely, I think Igor may have been on of the best f/a signings in the league this year. I think he's going to hold up wonderfully and when we set the numbers and the contracts side by side it'll be hard to believe Jerry pulled off such a swap.

I think Roy will be fine and develop into a very good #1 for us. He'll never have the numbers and explosiveness of Owens but he doesn't have to be. With the three headed monster in the backfield our philosophy is changing. Also, I think the talent and versatility we're going to have in Witten & Bennett is wildly underestimated around these parts. Consider, too, reports this morning that Roy Williams had never been on a serious weight lifting program until he came to Dallas. Say alot about Detroit's struggles, eh? He's young, big with good speed and has an amazing set of mitts. I think he's going to surprise, too.

Romo's recent comments about highlights not winning titles and criticizing his decision making and turnovers is another huge step in the right direction. If that kid makes the jump to the next level and starts protecting the ball the Dallas drought will be over.

Ahhh....... the optimism of June. Seriously, though, I like this squad and think they're going to do well.

Romo needs to start scrambling again. He was staying in the pocket to a fault at times last season. I think he was trying too hard to be Tom Brady like and hang in the pocket. He killed teams when he took off running.

Maybe the diet will help him to feel lighter.:cool:

You're not the first person that I've heard say that. His mobility played a big part in his game to where he was able to improvise. It was a big reason why they were 13-3 a couple of seasons ago.

It'd be better if Romo would be himself, once he gets into shape.

This is another good question! They need to just tell him to go out and have fun. I noticed that, Tony is at his best when he's having fun.

One thing that sticks out to me about Tony, is that he's mentally tough. To play in this area for this team, you have to be mentally tough with thick skin. You have to be able to take the criticism when it's thrown at you. If you can't take the heat, then your @$$ won't last here. He's got it! With that said, I think Tony is going to play for awhile and be successful.

Can't have it both ways, though. The entire offseason he's been getting it from every direction that he needs to mature, become more of a pocket passer and stop taking risks. Now that a little time has passed and we're all jonesing for our NFL we tell him to just go out and have fun. The challenge is finding the balance and that's what he has to do. You're right about the oline. It all hinges on them earning their money this season. If they perform to their 07 level this offense will roll, even with TO gone.

Romo gets a bad rap. He is absolutely tough mentally. Playing qb for Dallas is like no other position in sport. The light is always on and the masses are completely obsessed. The entire sports world has an opinion about Dallas, love or hate, period. It's extreme and he's done well. The biggest leap qbs take is when they enter their 3rd season as the starter. Guess what year this is for Romo? 3rd full year. I believe he's set to blossom.

I think he does need to mature and make better decisions, but I still think he can take off and run from time to time. Roger S did that throughout his career and it did drive Landry nuts at times. He can mature and keep the scrambling in his arsenal. He does needs to secure the football better while in the pocket. Yes I think he will have a big season without TO. The RB possibilities in the O are endless.

I'd love to see Felix in the slot, when he gets healthy. Barber will be healthy so, that'll help. For some strange reason, I've gotta feeling that Tashard is going to end up being the man. This dude has the potential to be an every down back. Keyword: POTENTIAL! Good reciever, good hands and, not only can he run inside, but he can run outside as well.

The Dallas backfield is a beautiful thing, potentially. All are young. All have different styles. All have great hands. All work hard. All are low key, team guys. Many teams have a shared situation at this position these days. If people are being honest, no team in the league can match Dallas for talent on their 3 deep chart. Couple that with what I believe is the best TE rotation in the league, as Bennet continues to impress this offseason, and we're going somewhere. Roy will give us what we need on the outside because he is talented but also because our needs have changed, imo. Imagine going to a 4 receiver set with only one, true wr. Could easily happem if you put the TE's in the slot, lined Felix out wide opposite Roy. Oh, and Barber is in the backfield. See what i mean? Not a look they'll employ much, if ever, but we have options. All of this concern about our explosiveness is just silly. The 90's were never about being vertical. We were methodical, a machine that moved the changes, and when you weren't looking we exploited you deep. Everyone of those ingredients is here, right now, to some degree.

Martellus will do fine, as he continues to learn from Jason! Miles Austin could be the legit deep threat that we've been looking for since the days of Alvin Harper and, I agree with you on Hurd as well. But, the only question about Austin and Hurd are, can they stay healthy?

My ONLY question with Crayton, is will he shut the F**K up? When he keeps his mouth shut and just plays ball, he produces. When he opens his mouth, bad stuff happens. Remember that week leading up to the playoff game against the Giants? Remember how he played IN that playoff game? I still haven't gotten over that!
