Pretty sure the tournament will be held either in Waco or Lufkin. There will be another poll out on that. Lp78 and Wide(including his better half) have volunteered to help put it together. Please select the Saturday that would be the best date to hold the tournament.

Anytime in April is good - if you all decide not to do coed - maybe we moms and other ladies can be the Cheerleaders!! I still want to go whether i play or not.

I'm going to vote not to have it on tax weekend, April 15th and to not have it during Spring Break time in March. I think the later we go, the better because it will be warmer. I also have to go to New Jersey in early March.
As such, I get the girls on the weekends of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays of the month. That means I might not be able to go on:
Mar 4
Mar 18
Apr 1
Apr 8
Apr 22
May 6
I prefer Apr 29, but Apr 15 and Mar 25 are workable. That's my .02, but I'll go work with what you come up with.

I think once we nail down a date, Lp78 and Wide's better half will really be able to come up with an itinerary.
The middle to end of April would be best due to weather. IMO

im a 'new' driver as my mom would say, and i doubt shed let me drive to waco within the next 2-3 months, we'll see though
plus i got the band trip in april i think? plus spring break so dont count d08 in for this stuff just yet, maybe i can work some magic
KatyTigerDad0407, looks like we (Lufkin) will have a mens team. I don't know many LP ladies that follow this site. But if there are, pm me. And we can work on a Co-Ed team.

I'm just going to have to be a free agent. I can't practice with people and might just catch on with somebody the day we play.

I will definitely play if it is in Lufkin but not sure if it is in Waco?? I played baseball my whole life but i have never bothered picking up a softball. Could be interesting? I just refused to get play it because i think i would get addicted to it and my wife would kill me. I would probably play tourneys ever dang week if i got into it. :D

Man it can be addicting, especially if you played baseball. But its so much fun. I have been playing softball since 91. I played on a tournament team last summer, wifey didn't like that at all because I was gone all day every Saturday. I quit before I ended up divorced. :D

i don't log on for a while and miss out on a lot! i will be at there no matter if its lufkin or waco, BUT, i can't play softball to save my life! flag football maybe?. i'll just have to cheer!
I'm having problems getting enough to go to Waco from Lufkin.
Maybe we can get enough from our old district schools.
Anyone from Longview & Tyler want to try & put something together with Lufkin?

If that was a movie it would be a "straight to video" movie. :p
I'll have to make a cameo for this tournament to be a sucess.

My baseball glove was broken in with baseballs but I managed to play softball on company teams. I feel it's harder to throw a softball but easier to catch. I used to play softball in the outfield in high school with no glove. Good thing you didn't play it while you were involved with baseball. It would ruin your baseball swing. Even though a baseball gets hit harder and travels faster some of thes guys (including the older ones) can flat out knock the cover off a softball. Fer instance - I was practicing with a company team and fielding in shallow left field (about 10 yard behind short stop) when one of the better hitters lined one to me. I think it took less than 2 secs. to get to me and it was knuckling. That was the loudest pop I ever heard in my glove. I caught it and like Chuck Norris I didn't shed a tear. Later on that afternoon I locked myself in the bathroom at my house and wept bitterly.

I'll chime in on this one.
Baseballs are smaller, lighter, and harder than softballs. That means they can be hit harder.
Softballs have a bigger strike zone (shoulders to knees and the whole plate), but you have a better shot hitting them since it's slow pitch.
The swings are definitely different and a baseball swing will get you a lot of flyouts or groundouts.

Speaking of softball strikes zones, I never understood while our league with the city of Houston never put the black mats behind the plate for the strike zone, it eliminates alot of the guess work.
Watching baseball players in the box in slow pitch their first couple times up is hilarious, but once the figure it out, they hit very well. Just takes a couple strikeouts. We had a guy that played baseball at a D2 school in Texas come out and strike out twice in the same night.

That is what i fear. I was known as a good ball player in Lufkin and was lucky enough to played 4 years of scholarship baseball. I always worried i would go out and miss an extremely slow pitched fat *** ball. ;) I have heard of that happening several times. I would not go out there without taking a few practice swings on my own. I have never hit or thrown a soft ball in my life. I could hit a 90 mph plus fastball though. Well i used to be able to? Not sure about now?

I've played in the military and I've seen quite a few umps blow the 6-12 foot rule in both directions. I've seen some pitches like 14 feet in the air that are allowed and others like 5 feet that get called strikes, too.

You don't want them to use a mat. Nornally if a mat is used, there is no arc limit. It (ball) can be thrown as high or low as the pitcher wants. So long as it hits the mat, its a strike. As a pitcher, I like it!

I've seen it too. The only thing is, if a pitcher throws it low. He will get his head taken off after a few low strikes called.
