Your son plays football in XYZ School District. XYZ School District Provides football players with regulation Rawlings football helmets. You want your son to have the newest Xenith X1 helmet and you purchase one for him. (Your money....About 300 frog hides). Once your son uses that new helmet in a HS football game or practice, the helmet becomes property of XYZ School District. Even when your son graduates, said helmet stay as XYZ School District property. Interesting! Oh, I failed to mention, XYZ will give you a receipt for a 300 dollar donation to their ISD.

At Allen, at the end of the season, they let you purchase anything you want from your own uniform, from helmet, to jersey, to pants, or even pads

I think I'd take a visit to school XYZ and take my FUT and put it up someones' A--! :D

Seriously though that sucks. Sounds like you're already gone up there and done whatever you could. Maybe if school XYZ employee noticed that a sizeable chunk of endzone turf was missing, they'd be willing to renegotiate. :ninja:

Yea, I'm all about supporting and helping fund "The Program". And I am sure there all legal issues a mile long, but Jeez.

Where does that regulation originate?

Where does that regulation originate?

it has all to do with liability -- if someone got hurt playing with equipment other than school owned , then not only would the player WITH that equipment be laible ( assume he hit someone with that helmet & the person he hit got serious injury ) but also the school would be liablefor allowing their student to use " non-standard equipment " . _ HOWEVER if it was school equipment -- then only the school ( and manufacturer ) would be laible

On same note --- if booster club wants to donate something like a new field house or concession stand , etc ( or science lab for that matter ) --it becomes property of the school so it can be covered by the schools insurance ( and not be subjected to other taxes )

Just the way it is

Gotcha. Makes good sense especially in todays world of litigation.

I have always seen and heard of kids buying their own equipment and either keeping it or passing it on to their underclassmen teammates at the end of the season. Coach may be trying to put you together.

That's pretty cool. At Katy, players have to return everything. In 2005, one of our captains planned on keeping his helmet after the state game. He was assuming we'd win, so in the confusion and celebration on the field his dad would come down to the field with a sack and put the helmet inside. He planned to tell the coaches he'd lost the helmet when the season was over and they asked about it. Well we lost, and somehow, in the lack of celebration, he ended up actually losing his helmet. Made the loss just a little harder to bear. :laugh
