I noticed this question on a different site and am curious ... how many NFL players have been produced from your area in the past 10 years? Lufkin has produced 3 that I'm aware of right now. Rex Hadnot (Miami), Terrence Kiel (San Deigo) and Don Muhlbach (Detroit). I'm sure Reggie McNeal will go high on the draft this year and Terrence Parks stands a good chance after next year. Just curious?

Carroll has the kicker for the lowly Texans, Kris Brown who quarterbacked our 93 State Champs

On nflhs.com you can find the roster of players by state (2004 is the season currently posted). http://www.nflhs.com/News/Features/2004Roster/TX.asp

We can lay partial claim to Dante Hall (KC wide receiver). I think his mom still lives here and they list Lufkin as his hometown on TV even though he graduated from the Houston area.

Humble has a few guys in the league also as does Galveston Ball. I think those two schools have the most NFL reps of anyone in the Houston area.

Was he a better quarterback than he is kicker?

I know North shore has two right now those beign Corey Redding playing for the Lions and Andre Gurode for Dallas.

He was a great kicker at Carroll..One of the strongest legs I've ever seen at the HS level for a non-soccer player....a good QB who did enough to lead the Dragons to a state title...he was a great kicker for Nebraska's National Champs and kicked well for Pittsburg..the Texans? I don't know if there is any hope for any of them...

Roberto Garza (Chicago), Rolando Cantu (Arizona), Jamaar Taylor (New York Giants), Koy Detmer (Phily), Ty Detmer (Atlanta) hmmm...

He did not kick well for the Steelers, that,s why they kick him out. Did better at Houston, but they need more that a kicker. They have started in the right way by firing Capers.

Well in the future, I think Matt Flynn (Junior) for LSU and Martel VanZant (Sophmore) for OSU will possibly go to NFL and there both from Tyler Lee. I think there was another player from Tyler Lee name Cody Scates who played for Texas A&M and went onto NFL for Patriots a Kicker, but I forgot what happen after that? anybody know? He graduated like 6 years ago from Tyler Lee.

He kicked for the Steelers for 4 years...I don' think they would keep him around for that long if he could'nt get it done..he hated the new Heinz Stadium, as I've heard all kickers do, and was happy to escape to Houston

Red Raiders Cody Scates was signed by the Texans on in January and then was allocated to NFL Europe on 1/31/05…assigned to the Cologne Centurions following a three-day camp for kickers and punters.

As for Brown I was unaware he was a quarterback. May be the Texans should have given him a few snaps he couldn't have done any worse than Carr has.

Kris was a very good athlete at Carroll..he played baseball and was pretty tough running the veer offense in those days...

Reggie McNeal? Who's that
I wouldn't give him the Nod in Canadian Football - maybe in Areana.

Isn't Jerimaih Trotter from Lufkin?

I was eating in a restaurant in Columbus and the owners had two son's and a cousin that all went to TCU and then to the pros. I thought that was interesting.

I live in Katy, and the punter for the Oakland Raiders, Shane Lechler owns a house down the street from me. He is from East Bernard, that's not too far from Katy. He has a speed boat, but nothing too extravagant for being one of the best punters in the league!

This is only the 150th thread on this same subject since i have been here!! Lufkin has 4 right now but just had 5 a few years back before Jacoby Sheppard (a friend of mine from jr high i played fball with along with wide on that same team). Lufkin will add a 5th again soon with Reggie. Mckinner Dixon and J Lane should be 2 more future NFL players. I would not be surprised to see Hewitt up there soon either.
