Couple surprises......
Midway, Guyer, and Sulphur Springs
Didn't expect Midway or Sulphur Springs to be back up there, and especially Midway being in the top 10, after losing all that they did.
Am anxious to see if SS's season was a one hit wonder or if they could start to build a bit of history with their run.
Guyer, I'm not surprised to see in the top 10. I am surprised to see them at No. 2, however.
I won't comment on the No. 1 spot. Doesn't matter until December.

Coach Buchanan is the man! With the exception of pretty good lineman, and a few athletes here and there, he always does more with less.

Dunbar is getting some love!:D Although it is at 24, it's all going to depend on how well they replace Nicholas Rockwell at QB. They have everything else back! This is one of the best polls that Dave Campbell has ever had! There's always a couple who won't live up to it but, he actually did good with this one.

My top 5 would be...
Denison - I mean... hell, they're returning their all time rushing leader.
Denton Guyer - Mean offensive and defensive lines
Longview - Great showing in the playoffs last year, and they'll be even better this year.
Aledo
Denton Ryan - Returning QB who threw for 65 TDs last year.
On that note,
HP will not be near as good as last year, and they weren't all that great last year. Not sure how they could even break the top 25...

I noticed you didn't say "In no particular order." So is Denison your pick for #1 over Guyer and Longview? I'm a homer, but I would put us at no higher than #3 behind those two.

You're kidding, right? HP was full of juniors last year. They'll be senior-laden and will dominate the regular season and make a deep run in the playoffs.
Mark it down.

I was at their spring game, and with the exception of 1 CB, 1 WR, and 1 LB - second teamer, I did not see anything special. Even at that - most of the receivers couldn't catch a ball to save their lives... and the 2nd team won the spring game... not that it matters, I just don't see it.
Hopefully I'm wrong as I have a lot of respect for Randy and HP... I just don't see it this year. Although, they will still probably go 10-0 or 9-1 in the regular season.

This year will be deja vu of last year! They will meet Longview in the 3rd, and that'll be it for my boys.
The things that they needed to do to beat Longview didnt have anything to do with talent. Carter was loaded last year. It's the same reason they lose every year....predictability

I know HP returns some offensive players that will make an impact.
QB Woodley was 262/408 for 3,746 yds 41 TD 6 INT and 158 yds rushing with 8 TD.
WR Stringer had 44 rec 733 yds 8 TD
WR Francis had 44 rec 598 yds 7 TD
WR Hipps had 31 rec 395 yds 6 TD
RB McIhenny 45 rush 244 yds 4 TD, 4 rec 59 yds 1 TD
I'll have to ask my friend that knows the HP team inside and out what they have elsewhere.
I know they're returning 31 underclassmen from last year's Varsity team, 30 of which will be Seniors. (That's not including JV moving up)

I see where you're coming from about being predictable. Gotta switch it up a little! Carter just needs a dual threat QB to come up. It hasn't happened since Jamal Crisp and Robert Hall roamed the hallways. But, it's just a matter of time before it happens.
Everybody better look out when it does happen.

Yeah, I know what you mean. How could they put a 4th year varsity team from R4 in the top 5? There's just know way they could be that good! :D LMFAO!!!
You have some reasoning next to 4 of the teams as to why they are top 5, but what about Aledo? Are they just that good that they must be a top 5 team or what?

i honestly think they should be #1 or at least tied with Longview...I think that they are the most under the radar team at #3 that I have seen in a long time....I believe that it is their's to lose...a once in a generation RB with a lights out defense....reminds me of Longview 1997....

I don't know if they deserve to be at #1 but I'm pretty sure they are a legit top 5. We will find out early when the meet 5a East Central at the kickoff classic in the Buffaloe Dome. EC has two top D1 recruits in a D-lineman and Running back. If they handle EC with relative ease, then they are a legit contender.
They will also get a test from 5a SA Stephens early in the year. Steele pounded them badly last year but Stephens did whip Judson in the 1st round so I would bet this will be a heck of a game.
Malcolm Brown is definately a once in a lifetime type player for any school or coach. A friend of mine coaches at the school and said that he is as strong or stronger then all the linemen on the team and is around 220 pounds. If he can just stay healthy this year and coach Jinks will play him a little more when they have a big lead on people he could open some eyes across the country He was pulled very early in 3 games last year and broke his foot in the 1st qtr of the Boerne game and still had 1,300+ yards and 17 TDs.

The nice thing is that there are several more future D1 players on this team. I had to laugh when I read the review on them in DCF magazine because they barely even mentioned a LB that will only be a Jr this year in Ryan Simmons and also Cory Hill, a 6 foot 290 lb Sr D-tackle. They are both D1 type guys. They also have a 6'3" Jr D lineman in Marquis Anderson that is a stud and Sr wide out in Sheldon McClain (6'2" 180) that has already verbally committed. They are indeed loaded with great talent and if they mesh together and get a head of steam, they could just do it this year.

Agreed! Had it not been for them running into Everman in the second round, Aledo would've gone atleast 4 rounds deep. And, Aledo will be tough next year, as they have almost everyone back, including Freshman Newcomer Of The Year, running back Jonathan Gray.

I'm not sure what his time was at the district meet but, he did run a 10.5 at one time this year.
I have no idea what his 40 time is at all! But, I can say this! He broke off a long run against Everman, and got ran down from behind after about 30 yards.

Good GOD! When that dude got the ball, it was almost as if, you had might as well just turn around and run toward the goal line. You were NOT going to beat DaBryon to the corner! He rushed for over 2,000 yards in the 2001 regular season and, he never played past halftime in atleast 5 of those games, and was out before the 3rd quarter ended in the rest of those games. The Everman game was the only game where he played a full game, and they lost that one. Some how, some way, he still ended up rushing for 192 yards against a great Everman defense.
