Consol lineman commits to Missouri

Brant Scott will change school colors to play college football, but the A&M Consolidated defensive tackle won't be changing his stripes.
Scott orally has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Missouri, trading Consol's maroon and white for Mizzou's black and gold but remaining a Tiger by picking a college home that felt like Tigerland.
"We went up there last summer on an unofficial visit and checked out Columbia," Scott said. "It reminded me of home. I really liked the atmosphere up there."
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Scott helped Consol reach the Class 5A Division I state semifinals. Scott ranked seventh on the team with 65 tackles and had four quarterback sacks.
Scott had scholarship offers from Stephen F. Austin, Cornell, Columbia and San Diego State, but he said he wanted to play at Missouri. Missouri coaches called with a scholarship offer Thursday, and he accepted Friday.
"They've been talking to me for about a month," Scott said. "They said they were interested in me, and they were still looking at a few defensive tackles. It made my day when they offered. I was definitely excited knowing that I'd be able to play Division I football in the Big 12."
Scott, who attended Missouri's homecoming game against Iowa State, has scheduled an official visit for the weekend of Jan 13. He expects to sign with the Tigers on Feb. 1.
Scott thought about giving up football 18 months ago. Scott could not play on Consol's varsity as a junior because the District 13-5A executive committee ruled that he had moved from Bryan to Consol for athletic purposes.
Scott thought about quitting but decided to play for the junior varsity.
When he moved up to varsity this season, he flourished as a senior starter for head coach Jim Slaughter.
"I'm definitely glad that coach Slaughter helped me decide that and helped me get through that," Scott said. "It definitely paid off."
