View Full Version : I have to be honest

I don't think Texas wins the Rose Bowl. I think all the hype around Reggie Bush and USC is stupid, but there are some valid points to be made. Texas hasn’t played anybody outside of Ohio State this year and the only reason the Horns won that game is because Jim Tressel is an idiot. USC is battle tested. Forget all the talk about greatest offense and all that. The simple fact that they have been there and done that has to be worth a few points.

In the end, I just don't know if Texas can slow the Trojan offense down enough to win. You guys saw what Stephen McGee did to Texas. No, USC isn’t going to start running the option, but McGee was able to exploit the weak spot on the Texas defense and Reggie Bush is more than capable of doing the same thing.

I have been running my mouth about this for a while and I think the hype is ********, but I have been wanting to throw some money on the Horns in this game for a while now, but I just can't bring myself to do it. If I can't put my money where my mouth is, then there is a problem.

I know this is gonna cause a stink with some of my fellow Horn fans here and I'm sure wide will throw his pregnant *** into a hissy fit, but I'm trying to be honest and realistic here.

Finally the voice of reason. I'm impressed. There is some integrity in the heart of Texas.

this needs to go straight to the classics, but I think that you missed a couple of points.

Mack Brown always folds in big games. While Pete Carroll has a month to prepare for this Texas team. The coaching matchup is so far skewed in USC's favor that the players on Texas will look like they don't even know what position they are playing.

USC has the heart of a champion. They have been able to overcome weak defensive play all year because of that very thing.

Pete Carroll is an idiot. He can't coach his way out of paper bag. Mack isn't any better. It all comes down to who has better talent and makes less mistakes.

Pete Carroll is overrated as a coach. He is the DC and this is the first year he has ever really had to do any coaching. In previous years, he has enough talent to just throw out there and be good. A monkey could have coached that unit. This year, injuries forced Pete to coach a bit and you see the results... an inconsistent, mediocre defense.

You can say the same about Mack, but you would be stupid. A lot of people get caught up saying Mack is a bad coach, but that is so stupid because Mack doesn’t really coach anything. Mack is a "CEO" coach. He's old school in that he hires assistants to do everything and then he lets them do their jobs. Mack doesn’t call plays or build the game plan. Mack doesn’t call defensive plays or make changes at halftime. Mack is the face of the program. He's there to motivate and keep moral up. He's there to make changes with the coaching staff if necessary. So, the next time somebody says Mack is a bad coach, ask them what exactly he coaches and watch the dumbfounded look come across their face, and then laugh because you will have just exposed another ignorant fool who would rather repeat the tired drivel he reads rather than find out something for himself.

Back to the subject at hand, Texas has a great coaching staff. All you have to do is look at subtle adjustments they have made from game to game. I've never been a Greg Davis fan, but he has been outstanding this year and his play calling has been close to perfect. The same goes for Chizik and his defense. This game is not a matter of coaching, but a matter of players and execution. I have no doubt that Texas will move the ball at will, but I think USC will do the same thing. In the end, I think Texas makes one little mistake that costs them the game. A mistake that USC wouldn’t make because they have been there before. I hate to say this, but I'm think of a final score like USC 49 - Texas 45.:(

Well said and a very valid point. Texas fans who can't see this are absolute morons. If Texas wins this game,Vince Young will have to be heroic. Texas MAY win this game because of VY and everybody will praise Mack Brown as God... then when VY goes to the league... Texas will go back to losing every game where the other team is close in talent.

That's a fair assessment of Mack. There is a certain greatness to not get in the way of those around you ala George Bush, but it does somewhat validate that Mack is made by those around him. I do agree the UT assistants have been getting better and you can see the results. Again, I say Mack isn't that great. If he can keep the staff he has, then maybe they keep winning. That's all that matters in the end.

Gale is right. Reggie is great. The all-purose yards he got against Fresno were overrated, but he's still great. The fact remains that a fast guy is going to get a bunch of yards if he returns punts, returns kicks, and plays a position. That's how Desmond Howard, Tim Brown, and Charles Woodson got Heisman's they didn't deserve.

I really wanted Lockbaum to get it playing 2 ways, but that wasn't going to happen. McPherson had an awesome season and probably should've won. Brown only had like 2500 yards receiving for his career and a little over 5000 all-purpose. Spielman was a monster and he would've been a better choice, too. Emmitt was a freshman and they had 3 more RB's in the top 10 that weren't consensus All-Americans. White and Ironhead were All-Americans.

The 3 who deserved it the most were Spielman, McPherson, and Lockbaum.

last year sc had trouble with cal, stanford, ucla, and vtech and everyone thought that sc wasnt that good before the ou spanking.everyone plays their best game vs sc all that matters is that they win.so if you think because sc has had close games this year with fresno st.,notre dame and asu that means texas should win don't forget history.also ou last year was the number 1 ranked defense in the country going into the game and never stopped sc.this years sc offense is better then last years and texas isn't as good as ou's defense was last year.

It's a HUGE plus that UT played in the Rose Bowl last yeaer - the hype won't bother them near as much. I think the key will be to disrupt Leinart - can they do that? USC, while a clear step down from last year, will be the best D UT has seen since Ohio State - which feels like last year at this point - hey it was last year!
